In this day and age, I am shocked that the food court only has "one" bathroom, likely the only one…read morefor the entire mall. I used it today since I had a Doctors appointment, but as I left the bathroom, a very sweet geriatric women using a walker, and hunched over the walker, was waiting to use the bathroom. I held the door open for her, and realized how bloody heavy this door was. So I stood waiting in the hall, and as I heard her try to open the door, I gently opened it and held it open so she could exit while leaning on her walker. I told her it's ridiculous this door does not have a mechanical door assist for seniors. The Mall should be embarrassed in only having one bathroom stall for two genders. Also this single bathroom had "NO" Urinal, so if a make teenager from the school across the road used the toilet, there's a good chance he left behind a male teenagers signature mark of a wet toilet seat. It's GROSS, UNHEALTHY, and shy of INHUMAN. The Mall will probably not care, so I am taking this health complaint to the AHS.

It has a Shoppers Drug Mart, FreshCo, and a Canada Revinue place next to a TD Bank. It's an okay…read moreMall to go to when you live close and need to grab something quick. Other than that my family calls it an old peoples mall. There is no clothing stores, and the food court which is only 4 places and gross food. Southgate isn't the kind of place I recommend visiting in December, but then again I don't…read morerecommend visiting any mall in December (not if you can help it). That being said if I'm gonna go to a traditional indoor shopping mall then Southgate is my top pick. It's mostly a convenience factor (I like Kingsway too, but I live closer to the south side). The mall is older, I think 25 or 30 years old, but they've don't a lot of renovations in the past 5 years so everything looks new and bright. Southgate has a nice amount of stores, not too many, and I can usually find what I'm looking for when I come here. There are some higher end stores like Michael Kors, and the Apple Store (well high end depending on what you by) to your run-of-the-mill Canadian mall standards like The Bay and Sears. There are also a few stores here that are great to go to because for me it means avoiding a trip to WEM or going downtown (I love downtown, but I don't love driving/parking downtown). So yes it's great I can buy my makeup at Sephora here instead of going to WEM or going to Evoolution (delicious artisan olive oils and vinegars) instead of having to go downtown or to St. Albert. One of my favourite things about Southgate is the food court. It's open, and can be a bit loud, but it's got a decent fast food selection from Koryo (Korean) to Opa (Greek). I also love how environmentally friendly Southgate is...they've got bins for recycling, trash, and they even have drains so you can pour out your beverage down the drain instead of dumping it in the trash. There's even a separate spot to put the utensils. The other high point of Southgate, as strange as it might seem are the washrooms by the food court (well the ladies at least, can't speak for the men's). Why? Because the washroom stalls are huge (seriously you could probably get 4 people in there), they have a heavy wooden door, and when the door is locked it goes from a green vacant to a red occupied. I wish all public bathrooms did that, instead of playing the knock-to-check-and-see-if-someone-is-in-the-bathroom-stall game. The bathroom stalls also have a a big purse ledge for you put your purse/bags on. And when you go to use the sinks after you're done there is a automatic paper towel dispenser in front of every sink. No waiting in line to dry your hands. Score. Regarding parking it can get busy here, but I usually find the parking lot is pretty decent, particularly if you go to the upper level there's usually always spots there (maybe not right before Christmas). Southgate is also on the LRT line (right after Century Park) so it's convenient if you take transit. Just know Southgate isn't park and ride, so if you park here and take the lrt you could get a ticket (yeah they check that). One thing that is a little weird about Southgate is the layout. It's a mall that was just designed a bit weird, but it's not a big mall and easy to figure out. It can get busy, but it doesn't have the insane crowds that WEM does. Southgate is definitely my go to mall in Edmonton.

There's absolutely nothing in this mall for me anymore…read more There's only two stores in the mall that offer plus size clothing - Reitman's and The Bay - neither of which have much of a collection. The only unique option in the food court is Koryo, but it was shut down this weekend for a massive cockroach infestation :( Even though I used to go there quite often when I lived on the southside, I still find it incredibly difficult to navigate. It's such a strange layout.

I love Costco, but you guys need to improve product control. I have no idea why when I buy milk seems to go bad from Costco than other stores. I have milk in my fridge right now that is supposed to have another week and a half to go but it is already starting to smell sour. Once I even found a dead maggot in a pepper though I will grant I am a long time customer, it was only once, you can't see inside a pepper until it is cut, and their peppers are usually pretty good. However after seeing a little thing here and a little thing there...it starts to become disappointing. This is the icing on my cake. Why is there a bag of jerky that is OBVIOUSLY bad front and centre to be sold? It looks like the container is decently full and should have been noticed, but it is not. Please do better. I've been on a quest for the past 2 weeks to find a new pair of lined, black, leather gloves…read more I usually wait for an "end of the season" sale at The Bay or Mark's Work Wearhouse, but I guess I left it too late. I've been running around from store to store with no luck. I decided to try Roots since it was close. I asked the clerk if there were any leather gloves. She said, "One left". Would you believe they were made exactly for my short, stubby hands? The only problem was the price. $88.00 Yikes. Not on sale. Ugh. I had to take them. They are beautiful. The cash-out procedure is the usual annoying thing. We need your email, we will spam you forever.... Very nice staff. The store is so clean and organized. Much nicer than the one on Whyte Ave. Of course the parking is better too. Sanitation station by the front door.

I'm used to outlets offering different lines, albeit sometimes at a lower quality, so it's nice that they are selling the same quality. The main attraction is that they have a sizable clearance section in the back. We all know that Roots can be a bit spendy, so this is the way to stretch your dollars a bit further. Seriously, if I had known about this store, I would have just come here rather than going to the other location first. I got some great deals that I was happy with, and I was even able to use a coupon to sweeten the deal.
