On Monday, the very next day, I decided to cancel after finding a better option. I made multiple attempts to cancel beforehand -- I called the store, was redirected to customer service, spoke to Bill, who told me he was off today and was told I had to speak to my salesperson, who I couldn't reach as well. Since I couldn't get help over the phone, I drove to the Norridge store in person (closer to me). At that point, I was told it was "too late" because the chairs were already on a delivery truck -- nearly 48 hours before the scheduled delivery. I was also told I would be charged a $100 delivery fee for items I never received. Customer service representative named Nate (no last name given) was completely unhelpful and inflexible, repeating policy without any effort to resolve the situation or acknowledge the circumstances. Was very dismissive and didn't acknowledge the situation at all. After over an hour of frustration -- including calling my bank to initiate a dispute -- the manager in training (forgot his name) in the Norridge store was finally able to cancel the order without the fee. This proves the situation could have been handled properly from the start. After over an hour of frustration -- including calling my financing provider to initiate a dispute -- an assistant manager in the store was able to fully cancel the order without penalty. This review would have been one star, but I'm giving an extra star solely because of that effort, even though they still agreed with the policy itself. The lack of communication, rigid policies, and unwillingness to assist customers is unacceptable. I will not be shopping here again and would strongly caution others before making a purchase.

The showroom has a good amount of items to consider but know that there are also catalogs with tons of other choices if you don't see what you want. Most items get ordered from Poland so be prepared to wait 8-12 weeks in some cases. There are lots of different levels of quality and price points - that said, I thought prices were pretty reasonable. One thing I especially liked is that their items do not contain added chemical flame retardants - it's not required in Europe and the chemical off gassing is bad for you (trust me on this one, I work in the industry). Anyway, the staff here is super nice and not pushy at all. If you have a minute, let them explain/show you features that night not be apparent at first glance. A lot of items have hidden storage, sleepers or adjust in ways that typical American furniture doesn't. We're considering a bedroom set up from them and I seriously covet one if the rugs they have. Let them know and they'll put out (nationwide) feelers out to locate it for you! I visited the store with a room divider in mind but once I saw it, I realized it was too small for the space intended. I found instead a Hansen sideboard and hutch that was perfect! John and Barry were very helpful in explaining the details...once you buy an item, it is then refinished to like new condition. You can also choose to purchase in original condition for a lesser price. For a surcharge they will do their best to recolor/match wood tones to a sample, if you desire. I had my teak piece lightened to match a walnut wood table. Tina was very helpful and communicative during this process. Although it wasn't an exact match, the overall tone blends and coordinates very well overall. That process took ~a month, then I was contacted by Andy the delivery driver. He actually wraps the items himself, and does an amazing job of delivery and set-up. I was quite impressed with how nicely the item looked in my space. I'll definitely shop here again; I only wish my house was larger!

Reader, he remembered us from a month ago--the only other time I've been in this store. I know he wasn't just saying that because he cooed over my baby and specifically remarked about the fact that she was awake this time instead of sleeping through the shopping trip (which was true). This is what makes shopping at local businesses so much fun; you get to established a rapport with someone who lives what they do, lives their neighbors, and wants to make sure that you enjoy shopping with them. Again as I came through I thought about how I wish I could hire an interior designer with Kenneth Ludwig on the shortlist. They didn't disappoint with their Christmas decor. They have lots of ornaments, all beautiful, and other holiday items. I REALLY love the stocking holders they have. They look like those old ceramic Christmas trees that lots of our grandmothers had, and it even lights up. I am almost certainly going to be returning before Christmas to pick up a couple.
