I first discovered Minit Stop on Maui, as my coworker told me about Minit Stop, and how good the Frrrrrrried Chicken was at this convenience store. Fast forward to the Big Island, and one day while I was driving out to Kapa'au, I noticed a Minit Stop and the way. Since then, several Minit stops have popped up all over the Big Island, and the Minit Stop I went to in Hilo (most recently), I must stay this convenience store was quite spacious, and beautiful. Located just across the street from the KTA Super Store along Puainako, you can easily find this Minit Stop. The Minit Stop convenience store has your standard stuffs like - drinks, fast food & snacks, toiletries and of course their FAMOUS Frrrrrrried Chicken! Stopped in for a 3 piece box, where you get a drumstick & two thighs. With the 3 piece box, you also get some giant deep fried potato wedges. What can say about da grub? For fast food Frrrrrrried Chicken, I list them up there with my favorites like - Popeye's, Pioneer Chicken, Zippy's, & Vons Chicken. Minit Stop version can rival a lot of fast food Chicken joints, as their Frrrrrrried Chicken was on point. Service here was fast & friendly. I would never have thought some of the best foods would come from a gas station. It's pretty much a small convenience store to get things on the go. But what surprised me was how clean this location was and the menu. 7Eleven needs to step up their game because the food here especially on the menu looks really good. We just came for the fried chicken and potato wedges. It was so good, we came back a second time. The second time we got Hurricane potato wedges. If you like spicy, sriracha mayo with furikake, get the Hurricane. If you want something more sweet, get the Tsunami. The chicken was pretty tasty. I hear some people even take them on the plane back to Oahu. I'd still go to 7Eleven for food but Minit Stop definitely comes in second. read more

When someone told me before that I needed to try the potato wedges and fried chicken from Minit Stop, I was like, "Why?!" Long story short, this time around, right before heading to the airport, we had to make one last stop to fill up gas and get some chicken and potato wedges to bring to Oahu. The workers there are friendly and nice and easy to talk to. I ended up ordering 2 - 3 piece meal which comes with 2 thighs, 1 drumstick and 3 potato wedges. You're probably thinking only 3 wedges?! To Minit Stop's response: A manager who turns their name tag over is problematic. It is highly problematic for any staff member to grab customers - especially a customer in distress who is nonviolent. This was incredibly triggering for my ptsd and required therapy that I had to pay for. Our car was not set up for a phone chargee...also, I hadn't seen any chargers nor did I consider it as staff didn't mention it either, but I'm confused as to where I would plug said charger into. Telling me that now only redirects blame onto me and doesn't do anything to change the way your staff interacts with customers. I was not at Firestone so I'm not sure how that is helpful. Assaulting women is an issue. Train your staff better. Stop blaming your customers, stop allowing your staff to make fun of and/or grab/assault/falsely accuse customers. read more

My husband and I were just talking about taking a day trip to Hilo just to visit Minit Stop and get some of their awesome fried chicken, potato wedges and Hurricane wedges! The chicken is so awesome here, and always seems fresh and right out of the fryer. A very convenient location, right across the Puainako Shopping Center (KTA Market), on the same side of the street. There are two Minit Stop locations, within in a mile of each other in Hilo. The other location is near the airport access road, on Lelani Street, but a little smaller and a bit congested, because its the closest gas station to the airport. Whether your going up to the Volcano or headed to the airport...this Minit Stop location is the perfect place to fill gas, pick up some snacks, drinks and fried chicken. My wife & I absolutely love the Minit Stop chicken. We got hook on this Fried Chicken when visiting Maui a couple of years back...so,when we visit Maui our Omiyage to bring back to Oahu is the 6 piece thighs and 6 piece potato wedges. This was our first visit to this Hilo location and like it for its cleanliness, variety of products and of course, its convenient location. I had no idea that this Maui-based chain of convenience stores, known for their fried chicken, had locations on the Big Isle until recently. We were headed to ITO after having lunch at the Volcano House and this Minit Stop pulled up as the closest gas station. While I didn't have to go inside, it looked like your average Minit Stop shop - lots of parking, with a few filling stations. Pricing per gallon wasn't of concern because Hilo doesn't have a Costco gas station. OVERALL: Convenient with quick access from the main highway. read more

Fueled up here and needed to hit the restroom. The gal inside informed me there was no bathroom for the public. I asked what about customers, she just repeated they didn't have one. Might be a small thing to some but big issue to me. I won't be back or fueling at the Ohana fueling stations as that's what's on the pumps. They also didn't have squeegees to wash your windows. Food quality is really hit or miss here. Better off going to 7-11 for a quick pick up for food at least their food are all consistent. Stopped by and got a chicken katsu plate. Basically, it is their chicken recipe taken out back and cut into bite sized pieces. If you looking for more traditional chicken katsu, go somewhere else. And their Mac salad was just awful. At 12.99 for the plate, it very much underwhelmed. read more
