Attorneys do not negotiate with a judge, only the prosecutor 2. In Michigan you can never negotiate the number of points a violation carries. They are automatically assigned after conviction. Prosecutors cannot impact a matter that is only a State function. The way to reduce points is to have the case dismissed or amended to a different charge. 3. Traffic cases are prosecuted differently in each jurisdiction. Students at WMU often deal with a less flexible system than in nearby districts.
