Love, love, love. If ever there were a library that felt like those small bookstores you see in the movies, this would be it.

From the moment you walk in, it just feels right. The staff is genuinely friendly and incredibly helpful -- they go out of their way to assist without ever making you feel rushed. What really blew me away is the collection: per square foot, they have an outstanding selection of books, DVDs, and audiobooks. It's surprisingly well-curated and up-to-date. The facilities are fantastic too. The work areas are functional and comfortable, the study/meeting rooms are excellent, and the computer lab is better equipped and more modern than most I've seen anywhere. But the absolute highlight? It's actually quiet. In a world where libraries seem to have turned into noisy community centers, Montverde has managed to preserve that peaceful, focused atmosphere that makes a library truly special. If you're in the area and need a great place to read, study, work, or just escape for a while, do yourself a favor and visit Montverde Library. It's a hidden gem and a true credit to the community. Highly, highly recommended!

The days that they are open the hours are from 8:30 am to 6:30pm. There is adequate parking and a convenient book drop off in the parking lot. It's a very small and quaint library. They recently added several books and dvds to their collection. They have a calendar of events in hopes that the community will participate.

It's your local Orange County Library, and it just might be the most underrated treasure in Central Florida. Through the years various other historic buildings were moved to the village. The non profit South Lake Historical Society, formed in 1997 operates the village in conjunction with the City of Clermont. The mission of the historical society is to preserve, maintain, and share the history of South Lake County's pioneer families. The village opened in 2005. The historical society gives tours which covers the period of history from the 1800's to WWII. There are seven buildings that make up the village. These include the Herring Hooks Schoolhouse which was the last building added to the property. It is a replica of an 1881 one room schoolhouse that used to exist near Jack's Lake and served as Clermont's first school. It was recreated using old photographs. The Cooper Memorial Library was built in 1914 and nicknamed The Little Cooper. It was moved to the village from West DeSoto Street in 2009. The outhouse is a replica of one and was built as an Eagle Scout project. The Train Depot stands in its original location. It received refurbishment in 2011. The Quonset Hut was built by the US military and it is original to the WWII era. It has been turned into a museum. The Kern House was built in 1895 on Montrose Street in a traditional New England style by Alexander Kern. He was one of the original signers on the incorporation of Clermont. The house was moved to the village in 2008. The Townsend House was built in 1895 on SR 50 by the first Black family to move to Clermont, James and Sallie Townsend. It was the first building to be moved to the village in 2002 and it opened for tours in 2005. The Historic Village is free but asks for a suggested $5 per person donation. It is open for tours Saturday and Sunday between 1 and 4. You can contact them for private tours and rentals. Every year the Historical Society hosts a Heritage Day Festival. During my visit there was a very nice Christmas village on display. I love how the city of Clermont has preserved their history in these buildings. This is a great place to get a glimpse of what life was like at the turn of the century through WWII.

From bread to…read morebooks The town of Howey-in-the-Hills library got it's start about ten years ago as an eagle scout project. As usual with libraries that are just starting out, the books were moved around quite a bit. Finally through private donations and other means the town managed to buy an old convenience store and did some impressive renovations and now the books have a permanent home. Lots of work was done on the building and you have to look hard to see the convenience store roots. Everything is clean and even though the building isn't especially large, everything is well placed and spacious so the library gives the impression of being larger than it really is. Of course the library has all the usual modern library stuff including four computers, audio books and a nice kids department. I believe it is still a work in progress so I expect more changes in the future. The rather strange name of Howey-in-the-Hills originated with William Howey who founded the town in 1925. I guess he wanted to call the town Howey but folks ended up thinking that was a bit pretentious of him so they added the rather awkward in-the-Hills after it because of all the rolling hills in hills in the area. Rather small hills I might add, in fact more like bumps than actual hills. An interesting library in an interesting town. Just shows what people and a town can do when they make up their mind that they really, really want a library of their own.
