I grew up in this family friendly town. It's beautiful, full of successful and great businesses, and has top schools.

Managers say they'll get back to you and nothing. Nothing but young kids working here who don't have a manager. Scheduled games are constantly being changed last minute. Extremely inconsiderate. Our team requested no 11pm games and then when we questioned why we received another bye week the manager spitefully replied it's 11pm or a bye week. We received a second bye week because the manager wanted to play catch up in one of the men's leagues because they're behind, now putting the women's league behind. The men already have leagues Monday-Wednesday, Over 35 league on Friday evenings and then Saturdays and Sundays. Women's league is only on Thursdays so not sure why we have to sacrifice our PAID playing time for another league. This facility has kept no promises they made. "We will make sure leagues are fair" but the D3 league has been D1 level. They've tried getting rid of the women's league because "it doesn't bring that much money in." Maybe as a manager you should do a better job of recruiting teams to play here, as it is part of your job requirements. But it's hard to do your job when you're never at the actual facility. Must be nice to receive a salary and not actually work for it.

I came from one of UCs where the gym is fabulous so my bar is super high. To be honest, I was…read moreextremely disappointed when I visited. Well later I learned this is the best of all five in New Brunswick campus. The following are the reasons why it's such a disappointment to me: 1. I'm a morning person and prefer to workout first thing of my day, yet gym only opens at 7am which is already not early. On top of it, it changes hour to 8am, or 9am, sometimes to 11am during breaks or summer. sometimes won't open at all. If you're serious about training like me, you must be familiar that consistency is key. Yet the schedules make me think the gym is against morning people. 2. The layout of fitness room is a train wreck to be honest. Machines are way too close to each other. One can be in other people's way even when working out. It's not just inconvenient, it's actually DANGEROUS. Plus, there's only ONE machine for each exercise. The whole fitness room probably has the size of two decent parking garage. Which is WAY too tiny given the number of people on campus. 3. The whole building is POORLY designed. The parking lot is on the opposite side of the building so you get extra walk because of poor design. Another thing is, the building size looks decent yet it has so tiny space for fitness room. 4. The power lifting room is okay. It only has 4 squat racks and 2 deadlifts platforms. Not even 1/3 of my previous gym. But surprisingly, not many people use them anyway so it's good. There's always a space when I go to in the morning. So two stars are for the power gym. 5. The swimming pool looks great but I don't swim that much so the star doesn't include swimming. To summarize, if you use the gym mainly for lifting, you can go and get work done but don't expect too much more. My star might be biased cuz I've seen one of the best. But it's good for those who never have seen better because they won't have as much disappointment as I have.

I'm at Rutgers year round as a graduate student working on Busch Campus. When I have time to work…read moreon my fitness, it's usually at the Sonny Werblin Recreation Center. This building is kind of strangely built. They have the main door to the gym all the way around the opposite side of the building from the parking lot. This is really annoying when it's rainy or cold or snowy and you have to walk around the needlessly long poorly designed path. The parking lot itself is way too tiny, especially when they open the gym up to high school swim meets and other special events. The way it's designed is also poor, since the positioning of the isles creates a bunch of blind turns. I've seen a few accidents here over the past few years. Once you're inside, they also insist on swiping your RUID badge when you walk in, which can get irritating. They have an Olympic sized pool which looks pretty nice. The general gym weight equipment area is way too small for the number of students/staff that are on this campus. They have rooms for spinning and racquetball as well. There are a bunch of classes you can take at the gym. They are quite cheap for Rutgers staff/students but it's sort of insulting that they aren't put into the tuition in the first place. Most of the classes are enjoyable though. I especially like the spin classes and RUFIT (which is kind of a mixed stations work out class). I just wish they had more classes later in the evening. The gym closes at 9pm and there are larger stretches of the year where it isn't open at all for breaks an things. The scheduling is inconsistent and always changing which can get confusing sometimes.

This is a somewhat unique rating for me, because I'm giving it 5 stars based on its objective…read moreexcellence. For me, personally? Not my favorite of the 3 parks that are in the immediate vicinity of where I live. That's a purely subjective evaluation. There's Mountain Park in Basking Ridge, heading in the direction of Martinsville. I've reviewed that 1. There's Harry Dunham Park in Basking Ridge, near Liberty Corner. I've reviewed that 1 too. I walk/run in both of these parks on a fairly regular basis. Pleasant Valley? Not so much. Pleasant Valley has a playground, 4 multipurpose fields, a softball field, a baseball field, 2 "youth" baseball fields, 6 tennis courts, 6 pickleball courts (I've asked this before, but I'll ask it again-- when did pickleball become a "thing?"), 4 "lighted platform" tennis courts, a basketball court, a sand volleyball court, a pond for fishing, an amphitheater, picnic shelters, indoor rooms available for rental, walking trails, and restrooms. Why would I subjectively give this less than 5 stars? Because the walking trails aren't my favorite, and walking trails are what I utilize these parks for. Anyone who has ever read anything I've ever written knows sports are, and always have been, anathema to me, but I do like doing exercises that hopefully will allow me to live a bit longer than I might without the exercise (funny story-- my oldest friend went to a high school reunion, and the others there said enviously, "You've aged very well!" My friend laughs when he tells me this and says, "Like it just happened! I work hard at it! I didn't just age well! I worked my ass off exercising and eating right, and they didn't. That's the difference. It's that simple."). I lift weights, and I walk/run, and walking/running the wooded trails has made me feel better physically (although it doesn't melt the fat off as easily as it once did) as well as put me in closer proximity, at least in my own mind, to the inchoate and unknowable nature of whatever "God" might be or the source of all creation and nature. It's in the sunlight filtering through the trees, it's in the cloud-filled or cloudless sky that I get glimpses of through the trees as I walk, it's in the sounds of birds and insects, the deer and other small animals crashing through the brush (not long ago, there was a bear sighting not too far away, and that would just be my bad luck-- all this exercise only to get mangled to death by a bear!), it's in the fragrant flowers sprouting up from the soil, the invigorating fresh air itself. There's a stretch of woods in the Dunham Park that's lovely. It's not a long walk, but it passes beneath the towering trees, and alongside a gurgling brook. If it's not the pristine beauty of the northwest CT countryside, it's pretty close. Mountain Park also has magnificent trails. At 1 point, I followed 1 down a hill to a river, but didn't go further, as I didn't know where it was leading to and I wasn't prepared for an extended hike through unknown wilderness. But you can walk the trails for a considerable distance and actually imagine you're far from any last vestiges of civilization (which might not be a positive, depending on your mood or disposition or anxiety level). All alone with nature! I found it exhilarating and spiritually restorative. Pleasant Valley? I occasionally ran the trails at Pleasant Valley with a running/drinking buddy of mine. At that time, we partied a lot (with a group of friends), but we exercised a lot too (just her and me); she ultimately married and moved to the Virgin Islands, and we sort of lost touch. But...hope she's doing well and... keep up the running, old friend! A few weeks ago, I returned to Pleasant Valley, to take a walk. The trails wind upward and certainly serve their purpose, but I prefer the trails of the other 2 parks. With them, at least you get the illusion that you're in the middle of nowhere, enjoying the mystery and majesty of God's green earth. With the Pleasant Valley trails, there's a uniform sameness to them, and when I deviated off the main trail onto a side offshoot, I ended up in a housing development. Again, maybe that's just my own personal quirk and won't mean anything to somebody else of a more "social" disposition. Me? I prefer to pretend I'm the pioneering hermit, the isolated "Stranger in a Strange Land," the searcher for solitude and tranquility, at least for an hour or so. So... objectively...this is a great park, with a lot of amenities and activities. Parking seems plentiful enough (although I have to agree with 1 previous reviewer who said that if the park gets crowded, parking could potentially prove a problem). I can't say I won't return on occasion to walk the trails. But...subjectively...it's not my 1st choice. Or 2nd.

The routes get changed every semester or so for both bouldering and top rope climbing, and there are two auto-belays if you go there and don't have anyone to help belay you. (The people who go are also super nice--I've had people offer to belay me whenever I go alone!) They offer belay classes here as well--I think it's around $30, and once you're certified (they test you 3 times before letting you do your thing), you can come whenever you want! If you don't plan on getting belay-certified, you can still boulder whenever you want! :] For guests, it's just $5 for admission, which is about 1/4 the price of any day admission to the nearby climbing gyms. Harness rental is always free and shoe rental is $1 each time (free for your first time there though!)
