If I were just rating my experience at this gym, this would be a five star rating. However, dealing with the accounting department and attempting to cancel has been a nightmare as many reviewers have already pointed out. The cancelation process involves sending in a form 30 days in advance. I needed to cancel my membership at the end of July. I followed protocol and mailed in the form. I then had to leave town earlier than expected because of a death in the family. Mint now claims they "never received" my cancelation and charged me for August membership fees. I wrote to the accounting department to correct the mistake and told it wold be fixed. Then I'm charged for September membership fees. Then I get an email saying that the August membership fees were refunded. I respond saying thank you, and then ask that the September membership fees be refunded. The response I receive says "sorry for the misunderstanding" but by "August membership fees" we actually ment "September membership fees," so no, you're responsible for the charge. With the number of issues of "lost" cancelation notices discussed here, I'm beginning to wonder if this isn't so much a problem with the postal service as it is with the organization and ethics of the Mint accounting department. read more

I liked mint while I was a member, but have to agree that it's super hard to cancel. Or do anything that involves the customer service reps or manager. When I was a member a year ago, I basically had to stalk Skip to get anything done (multiple emails, phone calls, drop bys). I felt like a spurned lover or something. Considering everyone pays $110 a month to be a member, you'd think that they would make customer service a priority. Canceling my membership was harder than canceling at Bally's. The gym is nice, but a little bit small. One group fitness studio so not that expansive of a class schedule. It wasn't ever too crowded and was always clean and well maintained. read more

Mint is interesting. It's the gym closest to my house, thus it is my gym, but it also happens to be very nice. The vibe is more like a health club or spa, which is an enjoyable departure from fluorescent lighting and stinky locker rooms. I've never belonged to a gym with "muscle head" Pumping Iron type guys, but they also don't exist here, which is wonderful. I mean, really, do you HAVE to make those grunting noises when you lift weights? The cardio machines all have TVs over them, which is premium and much appreciated. The trainers are great, staff is friendly, and facility is first rate. My only complaints: - Not enough gym classes or variety in gym classes. Some people like to work out in the morning and there are barely any morning classes!!! - The new Pilates studio doesn't have the highest quality reformers, yet they charge you a lot per session. I'm sure people who know Pilates well would agree that the "studio" is a bit of a joke (even though the instructor is nice) - Too crowded on weekday nights - Too many in shape and attractive people. Seriously. If I were overweight and out of shape, I don't think I could come here... but that just demonstrates my insecurities, I guess. Overall, a great gym. So good, I'd rather you not join... or if you join, not come. Because I hate crowded gyms. read more

When I first saw Mint opening up, I figured that it was a yuppie paradise and what I could see from the street confirmed my premonition. However, I now find myself a member and I really enjoy this place. The gym is broken up into five distinct areas: 2 floor areas where you can workout with medicine balls, ab rollers, etc; a cardio area with elliptical machines, bikes, treadmills; a weight machine area; and a free weight area. Each is fairly large and can accommodate quite a few people, though the free weight area gets quite crowded some days. All of the equipment is brand new and appears to be top of the line. There is a separate room where they hold numerous classes throughout the week. Yoga, pilates, spinning, aerobics, etc. The reason I actually started going here is because my wife teaches a yoga class on Sundays (try it out!) The locker rooms are also quite nice and well appointed. Lockers are not assigned, and they have a code system for locking rather than keys or padlocks. The shower facilities and bathrooms are very clean and are stocked with towels and toiletries. There is also an on site spa that offers massage, reflexology, body work, and facials. I haven't been there because the prices are pretty steep; however, if it's like the rest of the gym, I have a feeling that they probably do good work. Finally, there is a on site lounge that whips up some excellent smoothies and interesting drinks designed to provide nutrients after a good workout. I've tried several of the drinks and they taste great and provide a good boost. The lounge also has a wonderful seating area and free Wi-fi that makes it a good place to relax. Overall, I really like Mint. Yes, it is a yuppie paradise, but I guess I just have to accept the fact that I am a yuppie. The unfortunate thing about this place (like all gyms in DC) is that it is quite expensive. Because my wife teaches there, I get a really good discount. There's probably no way I would ever get a membership without that discount, because it would be a big blow to the wallet. So, if you have the money to spend, or if you just want to spend it, Mint is a great gym. read more

I really enjoy going to Mint, I mostly attend the barre and pilates classes. I've been to different studios around DC and Mint is probably the best for kind of classes I like. I was a member of MINT Dupont for about a year, and I recently ended my membership after deciding that I just did not get enough for the price. I did the basic training membership, where you get one free personal training session a month. There were certainly pros: nice location and view, not too crowded, good class selection, nice tea/coffee/reading area. I also loved the unlimited guest perk that came with my premium membership. However, I found that the facilities were not as clean or high-quality as you would expect for a high-end gym in DC (especially the lockers/showers). The classes and the trainers were good, but there was a lot of turnover so things changed a lot. In addition, there just wasn't enough space and machines were crowded together. I especially got frustrated when they held a class in the main weights area, so nobody else could use those machines/ropes/etc. if they were unlucky enough to come during a class time. I found the staff to be pretty variable -- some people were nice and helpful, but others seemed to have no idea about what was going on at the gym and were unfriendly. While I was there, they closed both the onsite juice bar and spa and replaced them with other amenities that weren't relevant to me (e.g. childcare). It's not a bad gym, but it just wasn't worth it for me. read more

I need monetary incentive to go to the gym regularly. At $95/month, MINT definitely provides this. I've been a member for a few months now, and haven't been disappointed. There are a lot of things they do very well. SERVICE: The people at the front desk say hello and goodbye when you walk past, and recognize at least your face if not your name. I know there are a ton of people who walk past them each day, so this feels nice. CARDIO: I've never had to wait for any machine, and each comes with a TV with a variety of channels. If you like to read magazines while on the elliptical, they have a basket of those as wells. Towels are available for free, as well as mint-flavored water and mint and eucalyptus scented refrigerated towels for after your workout (these are awesome and such a nice touch). CLASSES: I am a regular at the yoga classes, and have been to a couple pilates classes as well. In general, I like the yoga instructors. Susanna, who teaches on Saturday and Sunday evenings, is absolutely fantastic. They have all the equipment that you need, including mats. The downside to the classes is that they are often way too full -- Even more so because of the recent groupon deal. I hope the new location downtown relieves the class size problem soon. LOCKER ROOM: Lockers have key pads so you don't need a lock. I love the showers (they consistently have hot water unlike my apartment and the shower heads are supposed to simulate rain which is awesome). They also have good smelling shower products to use. The locker rooms have hair dryers, lotion, hairspray, razors, tampons, etc. All great amenities. There's a sauna and a steam room. Con: I've noticed that the towels are getting pretty ragged around the edges. OVERALL: A gym with a relaxed feel that is good for young women who don't want to be gawked at while working out. It's beginning to show its age but nothing serious. Yoga class sizes need to be reduced. For those in the neighborhood, there's nothing better (and I've done my research). read more

Spa day for part of a bachelorette party! Grand, right? One of the other bridesmaids took the helm of booking the services. Something to do with servicer availability had the five of us split up between this and their other location. Considering services are pretty individual, we were ok with this. Two of the girls walked to the other location and everything was settled... Being unfamiliar with the area, finding Mint was confusing. I saw the big sign on the street corner, but just below it is a cafe or something, not the spa entrance. Thankfully a local was able to point me around the corner where the entrance was. I check in and am told where the changing room is. But I have to go back to the front desk to ask for details. Where do I go after I've changed? She apologized and took me back. Showed me the lockers, but didn't explain how to tell which ones were already in use or available. I manage to figure it out after tugging on a few. I go wait for my service (Thai yoga massage booked). No clean glasses for the water as I sit to wait at first. Masseuse comes out after a few minutes and brings me in. During the massage I ask her - so what's the difference with this Thai yoga thing? Only then from her description do I discover I'm getting a standard massage - the person who does yoga massages is at the other location and they don't offer it here. Why was this not told to the bridesmaid who booked the services?! I did confirm with her that she booked Thai yoga massages for both of us (she actually got hers, as she was one of the two to go to the other location). I was disappointed as I was curious to try the Thai yoga. However I can always use a good massage. Unfortunately this was not a good massage. I requested additional pressure several times. I kept talking to the therapist because I wondered if she thought I'd fallen asleep and was therefore off the hook and stopped working. Toward the end she was just holding my head. No rubbing, no pressure, nothing, just standing there with my head in her hands. Uhh...I paid over $100 for this? I didn't get the service that was booked, and the service I got was pretty crappy. I get decent massages at home for $45 that my muscles actually feel, and with money being tight, had I known it was a regular massage, I never would have booked it in the first place. I know spas tend to be more expensive, if it had at least been a good massage my rating might be different, but this was a waste of time and money. read more

I've been a Mint member for a little over a month now and come several times a week, so I think the time for a Yelp review has come nigh. It's a fantastic gym, through and through. Now, full disclosure: it's a very pricey gym, one I usually would not be able to afford. But a woman on my neighborhood listserv was moving away and selling her membership on the cheap, and I jumped at the chance. So I paid a lot less than most, but it's probably worth what they charge. Mint, I love how clean you are, I love the minty-eucalyptus water you offer, the chill (NOT blaring house/grating pop/confusing techno) music wafting through the speakers, the way you don't need a lock for their keycode lockers....I could go on for awhile. The classes are also GREAT. Becca, who does a Saturday cycling-stretching-abs class (it's actually 2 classes) is so wonderful. The trainers are helpful and the machines are top notch. Okay...its a yuppie paradise. Surrounded by very eastern influenced minimal furniture and mint green hues complimented by eggshell panels sits an oasis for stress and a center of revitalization for the body. As far as what I have been reading here about the gym not being "hard core" enough. Certainly Mint is not a "No pain no gain" joint but the equipment and opportunity to push yourself is there. It simply runs as an urban retreat offering a chill out and buff up refuge. There is a cap on membership so that you never wait in line for equipment and they have some of the modern cabled resistence equipment is as well as the classic smith machines and dumbbells. I push around some significant weight there and I have found nothing missing from my Gold's gym days. And I was a Gold's member for 7 years and find that I work out more and get more from my workout now. All the trainers have masters degrees or 5 years experience with a bachelors degree in sports medicine or related and are available for questions at all times. They have a nutritionalist and sports therapy person on staff as well as an amazing spa. ( Props to the organic and very wholesome smoothies as well.) There are kick boxing classes, yoga, tai chi, 5-6 spin cycle classes, boot camps, and classic football style plyometrics. Oh yeah.....and a steam and sauna room to die for in the ladies room. I couldn't love it more!! After years of dragging myself to the gym I feel like I finally have to drag myself out as I can lose track of time in that wonderful place. read more

The gym looks like a huge building from the outside, but once you get inside it's just the top floor and is very small. The ceiling is very low and they try to hide this by having exposed pipes. There is only one room for fitness classes and it is small and in the shape of a triangle. Instead of floor to ceiling mirrors it's just a bunch of scattered mirrors. The zumba class is packed! The pilates reformer class has 5 machines and has an awesome teacher! The cardio machines are all squished together in one area and packed right after work. The locker room is sooo small. They do have free self-lock lockers which are nice as is the cold eucalyptus scented towels. They have free mint flavored water, the soap in the bathroom is mint scent as is the lotion. They have salads and wraps from freshii for sale. On the lower level of the building is a Rita's (Italian water ices and frozen custard) which is open late, so you have to make sure you don't stop there after your workout! lol read more

I haven't checked in here as many times as I probably should have, but that's certainly not MINT's fault (more a commentary on my physical state/priorities). The thing that describes MINT more than anything else to me is their never-ending supply of amenities. Girls -- they have straighteners, toothbrushes, razors, deodorant, etc. etc. etc. Basically anything you could ever want and more. Periodically throughout their facility, they have water options that are above and beyond a regular gym. These include room temp water, ice cold water, fresh lemon water, and fresh mint water. They even have cold minty towels that feel incredible after a particularly long cardio sesh. Their trainers are always nice and available to give advice, whether your budget allows for a real-time session or not. I also appreciate how their lockers don't require keys or locks, just your ability to remember a 4-digit pin number throughout the duration of your workout. Only downside? Not enough mirrors in the abs/weights area to check out your form. I recently had to take a medical leave of absence from the gym, and they were incredibly understanding. That was just the icing on the cake. read more

I was lucky enough to have a chance to check out this gym and spa after winning a free express facial in a raffle from the Passport to Adams Morgan Kick-Off party event. Located in a strip mall cube-like area on the southern end of the AdMo, Mint is an immaculate and contemporary gym and spa. From what I can tell glancing through it, the gym while on the smaller side is well-equipped with enough cardio, weight machines and free weights you need for a complete workout. A gym-spa combination is a very awesome yet very dangerous combination. If this were my local gym I'd spend more of my time and money relaxing and pampering myself at the spa more than actually getting a workout in their gym weight-training/yoga/pilates areas. But perhaps spa treatments are motivators to reward yourself for the hard work you put in your gym workout. Everything about the express facial I received was everything I would hope for. The staff was very friendly and accommodating in scheduling, greeting me, and showing me the way through the spa. I was lead to the women's locker room to pick up a robe and drop off my things in their programmable lockers before relaxing in the waiting room for my treatment. I wish I remembered my esthetician, but she was very friendly and did a great job with my analyzing my skin, giving me the facial and recommending treatments for my daily regimen. Aside from the lack of extractions, 30 minutes for $60 retail is really all I need in a facial (anything more than that is just hoopla without the extractions). I especially appreciated that she wasn't pushing any products to sell on me. A great neighborhood gym and spa for those living in this part of AdMo. Clean facilities, relaxing spa, and super-friendly staff - enough to sell me on the gym-spa idea (or get me in trouble). read more

In the six months since leaving the Bay Area and TRX Training center, I have been in a desperate search to find a gym that a) has TRX classes, b) teaches them properly, and c) are affordable. Unfortunately, what I've found is a) a place that has straps hanging from movable rods {ergo not safe}, b) instructors who teach wrong form, and c) classes that are cost-prohibitive. Mint, and Mary Duke Smith, are what I have been looking for. I have found a location and a price where I can get my butt kicked while still keeping good form and refreshing workouts. The classes are limited to 8- and it's recommended that you sign up online- but you can take the regular or advanced classes. Or if you're insane like me, you take them back to back. If you're looking for TRX, try Mint. If you're looking to try TRX, DO IT. read more

I love my gym! The facilities are gorgeous and rarely too crowded, and I love the variety of classes. Be sure to check out Yoga classes with Monica, barre classes with Rebecca, and the "Tour de Mint" with Colleen. My only gripes- and they are minor- is that the PIQ system for monitoring your heart rate is super buggy, and I would appreciate more late morning classes during the week. Update: due to a recent promotion, there are a LOT of new members, and the barre classes in particular have about 7 more people than the barre should safely accommodate. read more

So I finally broke down and joined Mint. I guess I've been eating too much of Biagio's delicious chocolates. Anyway, this place is superb. For starters, it is a limited membership gym meaning it isn't terribly crowded. Now of course, that is also why the membership dues are high, but as they say - "you get what you pay for." The place is clean, the staff is super friendly and I am truly thankful that they don't blast club music. There are plenty of cardio machines, but best of all the place isn't full of guys cruising or socializing like some of the other area gyms I've been to. read more

Coming from $19/month at Golds Gym in Lorton, VA to $150/month at MINT was a bit painful but hey... it's DC and the gym is an important part of my daily routine. But the classes make up for it. Awesome instructors, great HIIT (high intensity interval training) classes that always leave me out of breath and slightly nauseated. This is coming from a personal trainer of 7 years so that should hopefully mean something! Water... delicious.. Towels... fresh to death. Cleanliness.. on point. 2-3 squat racks and loads of free weights. Just wish there was more room but again, it's DC. Cons: parking sucks and I'm not into walking 3/4 mile back to metro after leg day. I have been a member of MINT for the past two months, and try to use it as often as I can (usually 4-5 times a week). I have been a member of four different gyms now --- and MINT has been the best by far. The only reason that I have given MINT four stars instead of five is that it is expensive compared to other gyms in the area. I personally think that it is well worth the money, but I can certainly see somebody being a little put off by the price tag. MINT is perfect for someone who exercises for relaxation and is willing to pay more for a quiet, clean, soothing, and healthy atmosphere (juice bar is great). If you are interested in just joining any gym, MINT might not be for you ---- but if you are looking for a different (more positive in my opinion) gym experience, I think MINT is the perfect place. Here is a quick list of things I love about MINT: - Very Clean (and it smells nice) - Small Membership (never crowded) - large bath towels (I shower at the gym) - Working equipment (I have never seen equipment broken for more than a day). - No Mirrors (keeps the muscle heads away) - Good variety of machines and free-weights - The people that work out there are friendly/respectful of others - Juice Bar w/ WiFi I have not taken any of the fitness classes at MINT so I can't speak to them personally, but other members of the gym seem to enjoy them as they are well attended. read more

Stay away from this place. Overpriced membership fees AND you will end up being charged even after you cancel. As few have already noted here, their accounting department work ethics is questionable. Mint claimed to have lost my cancelation form (which I handed in in person), and used that as an excuse to charge me for an additional month. It was quite a struggle to get them to cancel my membership. Avoid talking to their Dupont Manager at all costs. He is one of the nastiest people you will ever meet. Go to the owner instead. Realistically, for the price VIDA is better. I tried out a number of gyms and this came up far short of my expectations for the city. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice gym in a great location, it just doesn't quite meat my expectations compared to the rest of the gyms available. Why? - With the price, you essentially get the same thing for a better price at WSC and a better deal at VIDA - With emails, I went to check out and try the gym and ended up getting on average one email a day from the gym, constantly offering me various offers. I realize all gyms do this, but really this was manipulative and genuinely annoying, even after I emailed back and said I had found another gym. - The space is seriously limited compared to the other gyms. In the few day trial I had, I went at times that were not considered popular (like 9 PM?!) and yet the one machine I could use I had to wait for. I just had knee surgery so I'm only allowed to use the bike and there are something like 3/4 of that machine, so even in downtime I had a long wait. - The machines are too close. Way to close. No one wants to acquire the sweat of their fellow peers. read more

I did a week-long free trial of Mint when I lived close by. Being the type of person who takes advantage of a deal when one is presented to me, I went to Mint every day of that free week. At first, I was impressed. Mint flavored water? Extremely refreshing. Cleanliness? A+. Lockers that allow you to program your own custom combination? Probably the most useful feature I've seen in any gym. But after going a few times, I realized Mint was definitely not for me. First of all, it was way too small. Not cramped with people like lots of other gyms in the area - but just too small of a space. No room for enough treadmills, ellipticals, etc.; not enough space to comfortably stretch or lift weights without getting in someone else's way. To me, the lack of people was also a downside. I don't like people to take notice of me when I'm exercising - I'm typically not looking my greatest during that part of my day! I prefer to blend in. I also like to people-watch while I'm running on the treadmill, and there were just very few people to watch. I could have possibly dealt with all of that (before I learned the price of membership, that is) until I attended my first spin class at Mint. While I very much appreciate when instructors are focused on form, and make an effort to ensure everyone is doing the exercise correctly, this particular instructor took it too far. She stood next to me for practically the entire class, barking at me whenever I did something wrong. It was a good workout, but I felt singled out and embarrassed - and certainly not motivated (which I assume was her intention). After that, and after I spoke with someone there about their pricing, I never went back. This was during the Christmas/New Years season and they were selling what they claimed to be a "deal." Mint membership is ridiculously expensive, even compared to Vida, a similarly boutique-feeling gym (of which I now am a member). If a super small gym with lots of amenities (and very determined spin instructors) is your thing, Mint is probably a good fit. Otherwise, I'd check out Vida down the street, or even WSC if you're looking for something with fewer frills. read more

I just joined Mint when I moved here in the beginning of January and wow am I impressed! I mostly visit the Dupont location but both are very pleasant environments. They have great work out equipment and everyone there seems so friendly. The machines are all very high end and there are a ton of them! Only once have I ever had to wait to use something. The bathrooms are super clean and nice. Each locker has a device where you create your own electronic pin number so you can put your stuff in any locker safely. All of the staff members are friendly and smile at me when I walk in. It's a great community vibe and I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a gym! read more

I have a year long membership to this gym, and while I am not in love with the place, it fits my needs and expectations. The facilities are clean (I don't use the showers at gyms, especially when I see all sorts of people walking around barefoot...total breeding ground for a nasty infection), the machines work, people leave you alone, and there is a ready supply of towels and water. The downside is I think it is ridiculously over priced. And I will agree with the scathing post before this one- many of the people walk around with their nose up in the air there. Hours aren't that great and I am not overly impressed by the Spa . While the massage was decent my facial experience was mediocre, at best. The lady tried to sell me the entire 50 minutes on some skin care product, and she informed me she only uses her hands for extractions (no metal tools here!). Thankfully, she was wearing gloves. Moral of the story: if you live in the area it is a good neighborhood gym (I can't stand Washington Sports Club) and its relatively nice. Be forewarned they cap the membership so if you do want to be a member it's probably better to sign up sooner rather than later. read more

I joined Mint in the fall of 2011 when I was 3 months pregnant, and continued to work out here for about a year, until we moved too far away. I loved going to Mint. The facilities are clean, the machines work well, and I appreciated how welcoming the staff and other members were, even to a 9 month preggo :) When I started working out again after my daughter was born, going to Mint for a workout and shower was like a spa experience. Some people have posted about issues with membership cancellation and putting memberships on hold. I had no difficulty stopping payment for 1 month off after my daughter was born, and it was easy to cancel my membership when we moved in September 2012. I miss Mint, and if I lived close enough I would rejoin in a heartbeat! read more

MINT is fabulous! I tried many classes at different studios using class pass, and I got the best workout at MINT's Power Playground. You change activities often so you don't get bored or have time to think about how tired you are. It's also extremely clean and an enjoyable environment. I highly recommend trying it. read more

This is a review mostly for their spa. I had a massage at the Mint spa on several occasions in the past few months, and it has always been a really great experience. The staff is pleasant, the massage therapists were really, really great. Very professional, very attentive. It isn't cheap (about $100 for a 50 min. massage), but it's worth it. If you have a spa appointment, you can also use their fitness facilities (nice!), dry/wet sauna and their shiny, pampering showers. read more

My partner's wallet was stolen from his LOCKED gym locker at this location (which occurred due to MINT's bad practices). Despite the fact that his locker was locked with a combination he set, the quality of the locks/lockers are so poor that someone could break into it in a matter of minutes. Following the robbery, MINT has barely apologized and does not respond to his emails about the situation. 6+ weeks later, the issue still has not been resolved and there has been no communication from management despite multiple attempts to contact them. Would not recommend this gym. read more

I was a MINT member for about a year. If you're looking for a non-competitive, relaxing health club that is more spa and yoga studio than gym this is the place! The cardio equipment is up-to-date and the free weights are adequate but not stellar, but this isn't the place for meat head Gold's Gym types. The members are more likely to be doing yoga stretches and all those strange core exercises in the mat space than grunting under heavy free weights. The yoga classes are close to yoga studio quality (not the fluff at WSC) and the locker rooms are less stinky than your average gym (I'm looking at you Results). The healthy food options and lounge area are also nice touches. It is more expensive than most gyms, but you won't find an atmosphere like this elsewhere. I ONLY left because even with my gym reimbursement at work I was kicking in alot of money. Dropping one star for the cost and the difficulty ending membership. But hey, if you have the funds and you don't plan to leave anytime soon then you just found yourself a 5 star gym! read more

I was a member at MINT for about a year and a half with my wife on a family plan. The only reason we left is because we moved to another part of town, otherwise we'd still be members. While MINT can be a bit pricy for the individual, the family plan was a great value for including unlimited classes. Targeted at women, my wife really liked the aesthetic of the inside with the huge windows and bright lights. Keeping with the warm feel, the music played is inoffensive dance music from 10-20 years ago. But I was still sold on it because there was plenty in the way of free weights, including a squat rack for when I transitioned in powerlifting. The staff is mostly quite friendly. I was known by name to a few of the members of management and they even knew what routines I was doing and showed me new equipment they were getting that would benefit me, which made me feel really well liked. My wife liked most of the teachers for the classes and often attended yoga, including the prenatal yoga. Had we be able to continue with our membership, we were looking to take advantage of the included childcare in our membership. This is a huge boon over almost every other gym in the city, where the childcare is extra, usually an hourly charge. The FLEXGuest package the gym has for members is really great. For $20 a person, any member can bring a guest with them as often as they would like. This meant my brother, and exercise partner, came with me to most of my workouts and cut down on our bill. The FLEXGuest, however, does bring up my only complaint. When they first announced it, I was assured over the phone that the policy worked a certain way, however one employee was very adamant that it did not, while other check in reps were certain it worked the way we were told. This lead to literal weeks of confrontations over how the program actually worked. It became clear that management had not properly prepared their employees for how to handle this feature. Today, I'm sure they have it ironed out, and hopefully it's taught them to have thought of better training when new policies come up. read more

Joined Mint a while ago for a one year membership. Nice space, liked the cardio equipment, no wait times. Would say the same as other reviewers, needs more space for free weights. Went well until I needed to cancel because I moved. Totally frustrating experience. First emailed Zach multiple times, never heard back consistently. Filled out my form and sent it back immediately with my new lease and everything. Was still charged for several more months dues even tho I wasn't in DC anymore. FINALLY got in touch with a manager. Carrie? Katie? was seriously the only competent person there who actually helped me. Just be wary of how hard it is to cancel. read more

I visited MINT back in March to treat myself after months of nonstop hard work. I called the day before and the man who answered the phone was very amiable. The spa is conveniently located in Adams Morgan and the only drawback was the lack of parking places nearby. I followed the directions which were to arrive early so that you could change and spend time relaxing before the massage. The man at the front desk was very friendly and I was ushered into the ladies' locker room. Once inside I met a lady who asked who was giving my massage, she had never heard of Damien but suggested that I ask for David next time (which I just might do). The waiting area was very comfy and it was too long before Damien came to introduce himself. In the actual room the lights were dimmed, the oils smelled great, and the music was relaxing. Damien asked me plenty of questions and determined that even though I had booked a Swedish massage, I actually needed a deep tissue massage. He was vocal about the possibility of pain and urged me to let him know if it was too much for me. He did a great job of working out all of the knots in my back without causing me excrutiating pain. He talked me through a lot of the steps that he was taking. One thing that I truly appreciated was how respectful he was with privacy. He took measures to make sure I felt comfortable. All in all, it was a great experience and I'd definitely come back again. read more

I think that Mint is an okay gym, but in my experience, the staff are extremely unprofessional. From the first month I was a member, there were glitches with the emails I was getting and it went unfixed despite a staff member promising to update the information. Personal trainers are frequently conducting sessions when you're there, which is fine, but they'll set up multiple pieces of equipment for super sets so you can't use them and I've had several encounters where I was clearly working in an area, and when I walk away for 5 seconds to switch weights (leaving my stuff there), they hurry to take my spot so I have to move back and can't properly see my form in the mirror, or don't have space to use the TRX anymore. The classes are okay, but just okay - and I had a very bad experience with a yoga instructor that couldn't be bothered to bring her own mat, so she kept asking to use mine and kicking me off of it while she demonstrated so I got to stand on the dirty gym floor and then work in her sweat. Finally, after terminating my membership more than six months ago and switching the credit card for my husband's account, today I found two charges on my old credit card that, first, they have NO reason to be charging at this point, and second, included a charge for my membership that has been terminated for some time. Bottom line: Mint is convenient if you live in the neighborhood, but you can get a much better quality of service and level of professionalism for the same price at many other places in D.C. read more

I've only been to the spa at Mint. I always forget to bring a lock with me to the gym (and I did this time too), but the lockers at Mint have built in locks that you code yourself, which I thought was cool. I had Jamila as my masseuse. She was excellent. Right amount of pressure and asked if she was being too hard or too soft right off the bat, which I appreciated because I hate it when people just dive right in and assume they are doing everything perfectly (although I thought the amount of pressure was perfect from the start. I'm giving it 4 stars because my personal preference is to visit a spa that is not part of a gym, but it's a good one! read more

Love MINT! As an instructor at another boutique fitness studio in DC, I can be kind of picky trying to find a studio that is challenging and pleasant. Every instructor I've had at MINT is awesome, personable, knowledgeable, and challenging. They also make every class fun. I've only been to the playground & HIIT classes, and love them all so far. I have been a member of MINT for close to 1 year and work out 3 to 4 times a week at the gym. MINT offers everything I would want in a gym : Updated high quality equipment, relaxed environment, great facilities, variety of classes, a spa, friendly staff, and expert trainers. In comparison to the New York Sports Club in Dupont Circle, MINT is 100x better. MINT has huge bright windows facing California St and Florida Ave, is typically never overpacked (always can easily access machines and free weights), has several fresh water and towel stations, and has relaxing upbeat music playing all the time. I always leave MINT refreshed and rejuvenated especially after using the dry sauna. MINT also offers discounts for its members at stores around the neighborhood, which is really convenient. I highly recommend their personal training sessions as a compliment to the monthly membership. I have been training with MINT Trainer Mark Sanford the past few months. In our training sessions we have gone through several high intensity training circuits, using many different forms of equipment. He always switches up the routine to introduce new and functional exercises which keeps our sessions fresh and fun. When training with him he puts his full attention on our session and is always supportive throughout. When deciding on gyms you need to think to yourself where will I feel most comfortable and productive spending several hours a week working out, for me in all of DC it is definitely MINT! read more

These guys are completely incompetent. I went in and asked to sign up for a membership so I could work out that day. They told me I would have to wait for the manager to be there to sign up. I was literally trying to give them my money so I could become a member and they wouldn't take it. They said the only way I could work out was to buy a $39 guest pass for the day. I've been to Mint a few times to take advantage of their 'Tranquil Tuesday' deals. It's slightly cheaper than most spas in DC and the therapists are trained in different types of massage. Maurice was my therapist last night and I would definitely go back to him. He's quite attentive to health issues and adjusts the massage to your troubled areas. They also do a Thai massage that I'm looking forward to trying... Mint is a quick in and out spa. It's relaxing, there's not a lot of waiting, and it's pretty easy to get last minute appointments. If you are a rare spa go-er and want more of an experience, I would try elsewhere. But for the on-the-go city dweller, I really like this place. read more
