Did a Groupon solo fly fishing class. Chose this one first as the other shop's was for two plus the stated value saved here was higher due to the shop's reputation. I was one of only two chicas and the other was with friends. Nevertheless the gear fit, class was unpretentious good info and I got plenty of time practicing both tying and casting. We started with an overview of gear at the shop before doing a convoy drive to the USFS river. There we discussed etiquette, weather, bugs, fish habits, catch and release (or not). Then the equipment was brought out, we split into groups of 3-5 with the guides, did the hands on tying, hiked to a spot, and cast for under an hour. Plenty of one on one comments, suggestions, and opportunities to chat about going out closer to where I live. I did this early October and already it was getting pretty cold for much except browns nymphs etc but it was a beautiful day. One out of 11 of us caught a fish. Done by 1 and had a beautiful drive home. I'm more likely location wise to head to their shop in Vail next season than LT again. Yet overall I feel I had a great experience and I'm glad they offer this kind of low pressure low key option. read more

I'm from Florida and have never even thought about trout fishing until my girlfriend and I planned a trip to Colorado. I fish plenty at home, but knew almost nothing about the freshwater game. Knowing the fishing community to be mostly hush-hush, I expected everyone to be somewhat tight-lipped, so when I started talking to Collin, I had low expectations of what information I'd be able to pry from him. The next hour was spent with Collin and he walked me through EVERYTHING I could possibly need to know for a beginner. Flies, indicators, rigs (he even drew me a diagram of a triple nymph rig), tippet, what water to look for, on and on. Blown away by how much he helped me figure out something so foreign. Where does one begin on describing this place and the people? I think it's fair to say Minturn got me hooked on fly fishing. A few co-workers were attempting to teach me to fly fish and get me involved in a company team builder/tournament. I was very apprehensive as I'm not the most patient person and I'm easily frustrated. We had a wonderful opportunity lined up to go on a guided trip and spent a full day fishing near Winter Park. This is where I met, Tom, Tyler and Floyd. I was paired up with Tom and he did a great job teaching me the basics and continually giving me tips to improve on what I was already doing which helped a tremendous amount with my casting. Tyler's strong feedback and his ability to walk me through how to set a fish and net it sold me on how enjoyable fly fishing can be and thus I became hooked. Tom was fantastic at helping me over come my fears of falling in the water and assisted with everything, including helping me untangle line, pull it out of trees (hey it happens) he made the day very enjoyable by assisting with things that could easily frustrate my impatient side. However, after a full day of a guided trip I decided to sign up for the work tournament and needed help learning everything before casting. I figured my Dad would enjoy trying out fly fishing so I signed us both up for the intro to fly fishing class. We met at the store for a preview of the store and to make sure we had all the gear necessary before heading towards Deckers. Here we learned the necessary knots for tying on the leader, tippet and flies. What an awesome time! I caught a small trout on my 3rd cast of the day and yet again felt the rush of enjoyment! Today my guide was Chelsey, Jonathan and Neal were also on the river with us and Chelsey helped me continue to work on my casting, set up my own fly line and rig and answered numerous questions. I can't wait for my next trip with Minturn and their awesome guides! read more

My son and I dropped in to see if we could get some help with his tenkara setup. these guys stopped everything for us and were like a professional pit crew. I was overwhelmed with their generosity and their willingness to put everything aside and help us on the spot. they showed us a few things regarding some knot tying and got us on our way. anytime I'm in the area I will be giving them all my business. great people who love what they do and pass it on to others. hard to find that!! 5+ stars read more

Just want to say had a fantastic trip today with Mark Raskis. It was my daughter's first time fly fishing since moving to Colorado last year. Mark was super patient and an excellent instructor. He took my daughter under his wing and she was literally casting like she had been doing it forever. She caught some of the most beautiful trout you've ever seen. My wife and I treated ourselves to a one-day fly fishing class with Minturn Anglers. We had a blast! It was a beautiful day and our teacher guides, Gary and Troy, were patient and knowledgeable.
