Hudgens offers a great variety of artist's works in many different formats. Those artists who contribute a great amount of work to the center even have their own sections dedicated to their works. Although I am not too big on "art galleries," I did find the Hudgens center to be somewhat interestingly captivating. Some of the paintings actually made me hallucinate just looking at them, because of the vivid trance causing design the artist created. I really liked the metal sculpture outside the building created by Rita Blitt named "The Passionate Gesture Retrospective Exhibition."

The second was that they don't keep the kids the whole day. My kids ages 11 and 6 truly and thoroughly enjoyed their time at camp. I think it was fun for my 11 year old bc she was around her "tribe" and the 6 year old enjoyed it bc he felt like he was cool enough to hang with the big kids. Both children were able to apply techniques they learned at the camp to improve their drawing skills. They enjoyed making buttons, perfecting their craft and they really enjoyed their teachers too. For the first time all summer they did not complain about this camp once. This was definitely money well spent. My 6 year old wears his shirt to school bc "he wants to support mosaic minds" I promise you nobody told him to do that - that's just how he rolls. They will be back next year- it's too far for us to make it during the school week but it is worth the drive.

But that might be because we had to plan far in advance due to my friend's travel schedule. It is way out there in Tucker. But I always research where a place is before I buy a voucher. So no surprise there. You do have to pick up your piece later- so that is two trips out there. The class project was to make a mug. You don't get to make whatever you want. That's OK with me. They give you some time to play around with clay and practice the depth you need to use with the impressions. Even with the practice, I still didn't use the proper depth, unfortunately. But my piece came out ok. You get to choose from two different glaze colors- I wish there had been more. And the color I chose didn't turn out exactly as I had expected. The staff there was really nice. My friend and I both left something there. Me- my folder of vouchers. My friend- her water bottle and a ring. They held on to the lost items for us. Unfortunately, they didn't come across my friend's water bottle.

The owner is knowledgeable, personable, and a huge fan of art, and it shows in his work. I came in with an oversized art print (30x40) and an idea of how I wanted it framed. He gave me two ways of framing and quotes for art glass and regular glass--no pressure to buy, just giving us the information. I appreciate that he wanted to give us options that were in our budget. I chose a floating mat and maple frame with an inch border around, and the price was more than reasonable. He completed the framing in 3 business days (!) and even helped us carry it to the car. The most impressive thing is that Eric remembers every person's art piece, without even needing to look it up. It's a personal touch that I found remarkable, compared to other shops I've been to (which were prohibitively expensive). The shop does also showcase Eric's own work which is really cool! All in all, I would trust Eric with framing any keepsakes or cherished art that you may have.

Since…read morewe were the only visitors here, we received the VIP tour and all of this nice gentleman's attention. :) Even though he was assisting in the garden, he popped in and out occasionally to see if we had questions and to give us a mini history of the piece we were viewing at the moment. He was VERY knowledgeable as he can spout out the origin of the artwork and artist's mini bio by memory. The artwork came all over: Spain, Russia, Italy, etc. There were water colored and oil paintings, sculptures, to even a few black light paintings. Yes, black light. When viewed under the black light, these piece will awe you. There will be a garden coming soon since it is a work in progress when we visited here this past Sat. From the plant's labels, there will be a variety of plant species. Although small and right in front of the gallery, you can sit and enjoy the sun's warmth and take in the nature's beauty. Even though this was a small gallery, it took about an hour to an hour and a half to fully enjoy the artwork and get the history of some of the pieces. And though I was here for the Motion and Light exhibit, I enjoyed the whole gallery and the guidance from the gentleman. I can't wait for the garden to be complete and for the warmer weather to arrive. Admissions to this place is totally free btw.
