From the second we walked in we were given clear instructions. It was so well organized. They had a seating chart, we just had to give our ID and a staff member walked us to the table. It was bring your own bottle, and bring your own food And they provided us with the paint brushes the paint the water, as well as the canvas. We were also given smocks,I had a custom happy birthday smock At the very beginning the staff introduced themselves. They had great music playing, and we got to follow along with the lead paint instructor, and in between paintings we got to play different games. We even got to announce our birthdays, they also did little contests in between to keep the energy up! Overall it was a 10 out of 10 experience if you have not done something like this before, give it a try, I can't wait to do it again!!

Atlanta Hot Glass is a very, very cool place (no pun intended). It is the first glass blowing…read morecollective I've ever been to and it happens to be in East Decatur not that far from where I live. I first learned about Atlanta Hot Glass through the Emory Alumni Association, as strange as that may sound. I'm an alum of Emory (in case the comment above didn't make it obvious) and when I received the latest newsletter about upcoming events and goings on, an event about an interactive glass blowing night caught my attention. Fast forward two weeks and my boyfriend and I showed up at Atlanta Hot Glass, owned by Emory alum Susan Chin, and were introduced to the fascinating world of glass blowing. Let me tell you, it's harder than it looks, but lucky for all of us (there were about 20 people there in all), the instructors were fantastic. In addition to helping us make our own blown glass ornaments, they showed us some awesome examples of what you can make once you've gotten more skilled at it. We learned how hot the glass has to be to be malleable (it's kept in a 2050 degree furnace), how hot the 'glory holes' are that melt the glass shards and color the glass (2200 degrees), how glass sculptures are molded and shaped and transferred to the oven to cool down, etc. It was incredible and eye-opening and really fun. I thoroughly enjoyed myself since everyone was so friendly and willing to answer questions and assist us. Susan's cousin was great because he explained to us what was happening as the instructors were demonstrating making different pieces and when I was making my own blown glass ornament, my instructor (whose name escapes me), talked me through each step and why we did it. Atlanta Hot Glass also offers classes, studio time and opens itself up to the public like it did for Emory that night, which is great. Even if you're not sure that's your thing, you can take a course or a couple individual classes to figure out if it might be. A big kudos to the Emory Alumni Association for organizing this event and to Susan for kindly opening her studio to us. It was a fantastic and unique way to spend a Thursday.

After visiting the website, I called and spoke with Susan. She was extremely helpful and gave me lots of information. I chose the "Hands on Experience" for nine people. The process for payment and scheduling was very smooth and professional. Upon arriving, our team was greeted by the instructors, Lee and Jeremy. We were given safety tips and general information about glass blowing. Then we jumped right in. We had a blast! We each created a glass piece (paperweights and ornaments) and had a true "hands-on experience". I highly suggest this activity to large groups and small! For large groups I suggest keeping the pieces simple to allow time for your entire group to have a chance.

Parking: There is a dedicated lot with free parking. Friendsgiving Mixology Class: We made 3 different types of martinis: chocolate espresso, apple cider, and peach cobbler. They also had mocktail options for those that don't drink alcohol. I loved the way everything was laid out and how it was so fun and interactive to follow along. We even had a game inside our name tags to help us get to know our tablemates better. Additionally, they had food catered, which was delicious - we had mushroom bruschetta, pasta salad, BBQ pork sliders, meatballs, and waffle-coated chicken bites. And they even had a delicious biscoff cake for dessert! We were given a QR code to take with us with all the drink recipes an we got to keep the shaker too. Woodburning + Charcuterie Board Class: I've been wanting to take this class for a while and so happy I could make the date. I took my mom to celebrate her birthday. We chose our designs prior to class and were presented them when we arrived. Just like the last class, everything was laid out and the live step-by-step instructions are easy to follow. It was so fun to see our creations come to life! They partnered with "If These Boards Could Talk" who guided us through making a charcuterie board while we followed along with the ingredients provided. And because there were 2 people celebrating a birthday, L&L even had a cake at the end! Vibe: LaToya and Linda of L&L really make you feel like family coming into their events. Their space is warm and inviting, just like their personalities. At the beginning of each class, they talk about how the business came to be, which I appreciate. I love how interactive and engaging their classes/events are, and I know I'll be back for more!

I found a children's candle making class at Zane's (on Eventbrite) for $18 per child. I learned once there that this is about a half price discount from the normal price. I was able to register my daughter just one day in advance. On the day of, I needed to bring two children instead of one, and we were running about five minutes late. I called ahead to let them know our arrival time and to ask about registering the second child. The staff member was so kind and made everything very easy, relieving my stress to just drive carefully and get there when we could. The storefront is in a shopping plaza near other people of color owned businesses. There is a shared parking lot and there was plenty of parking. There was one other child/adult team there when we arrived, and they were already into their candlemaking experience. We got set up at a table next to them and the staff member transitioned to us when he could to get my girls started. The candle making experience with so much fun, and even though I decided to play helper to my girls rather than make my own, I learned a lot. I definitely would recommend this class for anyone looking for a hands-on, creative experience, either for adults or children. The class truly did take just about an hour. In the portion where we waited for the candles to set, the girls got to choose a game from the shelf. They chose checkers, so I got to also give them a beginner lesson in that game. It wasn't until this segment of the class that the instructor asked me to settle up for the second child. While I would've been willing to pay as soon as we arrived, I thought it was very generous of him to allow us to just get started with the class and collect the payment when there was a natural break-in activity. This however is when I learned about the pricing difference. He was kind enough to honor the price I paid online, and let me know that they currently have a Groupon special going that often brings the price down in that manner. Once done making their candles, they even got to name and label the candles before their creations were wrapped up in small gift bags for them to take home.

I was having a casual morning walk with a friend who likes art so it was such an easy decision to make. As soon as we walked in we were wowed by the local art. I saw some coffee in the back and made my way to the coffee shop where I was greeted warmly by Krista who is awesome! I tried their Spring Fling latte iced which has lavender and vanilla with whip cream and the lavender flour on top. Some people don't like the lavender flour, but I love it! It actually feels calming because of the lavender in it. My friend and I had some great conversations with the barista and a regular and it felt like such an awesome community space. I will definitely be coming back here to both see the local art and have more coffee!
