Our neighbors recently mentioned this place. Since we were nearby at a doctors we decided to come here for an early dinner. We were cheerily greeted by a server who presented us with a menu. To be honest it's not a lengthy menu, however, the food we had (gyros) was very filling and very good. And for the portions they give you it's quite reasonable. Had we come on Friday they serve a buffet meal at both lunch and dinner. We will have to come back on Friday to sample the menu. read more

This is a cute little Mediterranean spot. The food was really fresh. Our server was very helpful with her knowledge of the menu. We were a little sad that while they do have American coffee on the menu they do not serve it. Instead we got an Arabic drip coffee which was very yummy. We had a really yummy dinner here. I've had my eye on this place for a while, since it's pretty close to the airport. We had a flight to catch and we timed it out so we could have some dinner here. My husband is a coffee snob, and ever since he tried Turkish coffee he always makes it a point to order it if it's on the menu. He really loved the coffee here, and it was very delicately presented. For my entree I got the Kalaya, wanting to try something new. It was really good, I just wish it had a little more beef. My husband felt the same way about his kebabs. The locale itself isn't the nicest, but that's not a bad thing! These places where the interior and exterior are unassuming always have the best food. The staff was also lovely and made sure we got out in time to make our flight. Overall we had a really good experience, and I'd love to try other menu items on my next visit. read more

We had dinner last night at Mirage Mediterranean on Preston. We paid for what was definitely the worst "lamb" I've ever had. I'd think it was not really lamb, most likely mutton. Tough, chewy, gristly, ugg! Further my wife ordered a veterinarian dish for $12.00 that was approximately ¼ cup of hummus spread thinly in the center of the plate and eight slices of vegetables with the two pieces of caulifower burned to a crisp. Really poor. The lintel soup was just warm and tasteless. I complained but just got "Sorry" I suppose we should have not even sat down since it was 7PM and we were only the second table occupied. Strong clue that there might be some problems, Don't ever bother going there. read more

My mom and I stopped in here on a Saturday. We shared a meal which was plenty of food. Service was quick and friendly. We will be back. They have both outside and inside seating. Parking can be a bit challenging when they are busy. They also have lots of desserts too! Too bad they weren't gluten free. read more

The Mirage recommended by friends who leave in the area and it lives up to the recommendation! The food and service were excellent. The restaurant is understated, but inviting. The menus has lots of traditional Mediterranean offerings; only non-alcoholic beverages. There's plenty salad choices as well as some vegetarian. The portions are above average. We love to enjoy them for next day lunch; the seasoning gets even better overnight. The hours are a bit different than most restaurants; Sunday close is 7:00PM; weekday close 8:30PM. Mediterranean food is one of my favorites, and stunningly I had not tried Mirage until this past week. My book club and I dined on a week night, and it was beautifully un-crowded. We sat outside to both enjoy the gorgeous weather and ensure social distancing. Our server was attentive and helpful without being overbearing, and provided excellent recommendations. I had the vegetarian kalaya, a lovely tomato-based stew with vegetables, and was able to substitute mujadara (lentil rice) for the regular rice without an upcharge. I really enjoyed the kalaya, especially the cauliflower. The mujadara was topped with crispy onions (very tasty) but was admittedly a little dry. The star of the evening, however, was the baba ganouge. I am a sucker for this stuff, and order it anytime it's on a menu. Mirage makes some of the best I've had - next time I will order the appetizer version rather than the side, and likely eat it with a spoon. As with many mediterranean restaurants, Mirage has an admirable selection of vegetarian options, and I look forward to visiting again to try more (especially the salads and soups). read more

First of all, the picture on their website shows a stylish, atrium interior with a stone bar and hardwood floor - wrong - this is a simple diner with minimal atmosphere. Maybe there's another section that they don't show in the photos... We sat and ordered a felafel appetizer while we read through the menu. One of my pet peeves in restaurants is when the entree arrives within seconds (or even before) the appetizer arrives. So I made sure to place the appetizer order well before ordering the entrees. The felafels arrived - 5 on the plate. We almost got done eating one each when, right on time, the entrees were rushed to our table. So, 3 appetizers went uneaten. My wife ordered a gyro sandwich. The pita was flat (more like a tortilla), and stuffed with ground up meat (not sliced, as is the case in most of the Mediterranean world). It was loaded with fresh lettuce and tomatoes, then was grilled in a panini press to make the lettuce nice and hot on arrival to the table. She pulled out the wilted lettuce and managed to eat about half of it. Not good. She also commented that the iced tea that she received tasted like it was made last week. That may have been the kind of tea used - I didn't taste it. I ordered the lamb kabob platter. The meat pieces were small and a bit tough. The grilled vegetables were tasty, making the overall meal mediocre. I read rave reviews about this place before driving over - to say the least, we were disappointed. I travel a lot and normally like small places like this. When they get good reviews, they're usually spot-on. This time, I have to question those who found this worthy of a 5-star rating. read more

I can honestly say, I do not think I have ever experienced this bad of a "food" experience at a restaurant. From the drink, appetizer , main course, to the dessert, all was very disappointing . The stuffed grape leaves definitely were not fresh. The Baba Ganouge tasted like what I imagine an old rubber tire would taste like. The Jerusalem salad tasted like the onions and tomatoes had been sitting for a week in the lemon juice/sauce. The chicken kabobs tasted like reheated grilled chicken that was dry. My daughter said her lamb kabobs definitely didn't taste like lamb she had had before and was dry. Hummus had ZERO taste. We took a chance in dessert thinking the Baklava was made in house and would save the dinner in a sense. DRY AND VERY OLD and found out it is not made there. SO VERY DISAPPOINTED and can honestly say we will not be back. read more

I was referred to this restaurant by happenstance; meaning I asked a random stranger if there was any decent eateries nearby and was led to this location. Upon entering the spot had ample seating with a display ( photos) above where you place possibly a to go order. I was seated quickly and received my water quickly, I ordered the lamb kabobs which came in a reasonable allotment of time. My food was hot, the salad was fresh and tasty along with the rice. The kabobs on the other hand ( which I ordered medium) were well done and the taste of scorch was more prevalent than flavor. I don't believe the meat was marinated in any way or at least I didn't taste any. I've had better tasting lamb kabobs from a vendor outside of a Caribbean bar in California and his setup was 3 by 4 feet. That being said I won't be back for the lamb, but I'll maybe give them another chance another day with something else, but for now let's just say; " I was in the hunger desert and saw what I thought was a oasis nourishment, but it was just a Mirage. read more

My first experience with Mirage was tonight, and it was ... OK. I'm rounding up on my rating, though, since I only got to enjoy Mirage's food via delivery. I hope to eat in the restaurant one day, and when I do, I'll update this review. Via the Yelp app, I ordered the chicken shawarma plate with the Arabic salad. The shawarma was, to use it again, OK. I prefer shawarma that is made of large pieces of shaved chicken. This appeared to be like ground chicken. The rice was good, but the chicken didn't have as much flavor as I would have liked. I also wish this came with garlic yogurt sauce, like I've gotten at other restaurants. The salad was delicious and fresh, which I appreciated. I also got a large baklava. This really satisfied my sweet tooth. And since I ordered delivery, I appreciated that each dish was carefully packaged so that it made it to me just as it was likely packed with no messes. I truly believe location is everything. If you have a restaurant in a location with little competition to compare it to, an average meal can seem great. (OR) A good restaurant in a horrible location, with nightmare parking and a less than desirable neighborhood, can really effect an experience. Unfortunately this place has both. Something about it just seems off. I couldn't narrow it down. The place was busy and everyone seemed to be enjoying their food. I could have walked out if I hadn't been so hungry. The thought of leaving and starting over somewhere else kept me seated. 1. The parking outside is horrendous. Good luck finding a spot at dinner time. 2. Walking inside is confusing. I don't know if I order at the counter? Do I pick a seat and order? Are they gonna bring it out? It all seemed a little disorganized. 3. I sat down and eventually a waitress took my order. I waited quite a while before they dropped off my shawarma entree. 4. The only way I can describe my chicken is like very dry ground burger. Ground like beef for tacos or something. The mountain of rice was overcooked, and I'm pretty sure my blood pressure doubled. There was enough salt between the chicken and rice to almost make it inedible. I couldn't believe what I was experiencing. Especially after reading the Yelp reviews. Maybe my meal was an oops. Maybe a lot of other patrons don't have the experience with middle eastern food to compare it to. I don't know. I really really wanted to enjoy this place, like everyone else seemed to. Unfortunately it fell short for me. Sorry Mirage, you weren't the place I was looking for. Word of advice. Great lunch experience. Warmly greeted upon entering the restaurant. It's a seat yourself dining area and they bring a menu to your table after getting seated. So many great options on the menu I had trouble making a decision. The waitress recommended the Hummus with Shawarma with Gyro meat ($10) which also comes with a side salad. I selected the Baba Ganouge side based upon some of the great pictures I saw on Yelp. The entree was excellent. Well presented and a very generous serving. I practically licked the plate clean. The Baba Ganouge wasn't for me - doesn't mean it wasn't good....I just never had something like that before. The pita they serve with the meal is toasted - which was a nice touch. Service was prompt and very friendly. I plan to go back and try the Kabobs next time around. read more

Soo happy i found this place on yelp during my first week of being in Louisville. Because this place is amazing i lovee mediterranean food and it's super afforable/cheap compared to ny. PLUS SERVING SIZE and the entrees come with an appetizer of mostly hummus or some sort of salad but they were super good. Loved all the food We order the chicken kebob, chicken shwarma and gyro. Everything came with grilled veggies and rice. I normally don't have leftovers but it was a lot of food. The chicken kebob was super flavorful and still juicy not dried out. For the appetizer we tried the jerusalum salad, hummus and baba ganoosh all were very tasty and goes great with the pita. Ordered some tzaziki sauce for our meats as well. The waiter was very nice and offered some suggestions since everything looked great and we weren't too sure about the appetizers. Nothing fancy about the restaurant interior, go for the food! Lots of options for vegetarian and meat eaters. The hummus was great, the meal was filling and you get everything, carbs, meat, and veggies. I didn't give it 5 stars because my lamb was a little dry, but nothing like their good hummus can help. They also have this flashing light as decor outside their restaurant so if you go there at night and you're by the window it looks like there are cops outside.
