I initially made an appointment with Miss Kay 9/30/20 for micro blading. My follow-up was 10/29. I spent $400 to get semi-permanent tattooing. The pigment did not stay in my brows and I was left with brows that were two different colors. I was told multiple different things; to let the pigment push through, people with my skin type or who bleed a lot don't get good results. I felt as though I was blamed for not having a good outcome. I followed the after care instructions very well. After months of asking if this was normal I finally got another appointment 3/18/21,which I was charged $100. I would save your money, I feel like I wasted $500. In addition, when I had my appointments, the atmosphere was unprofessional. She was taking personal phone calls throughout the appointments and at one point was talking poorly about one of her clients that another esthetician was seeing across the hall. read more

The first time I went there she had taken presurgery medication and kept leaving to go to the restroom while she was doing my eyebrows. The second time she double booked a lady with me and let the two ladies sit in the room during my session. The third time she changed my appt. 3 times. She kept answering her cell phone and talking to her son about going shopping while she was working on me. She only made 5 swipes. She is expensive plus demands a mandatory tip. The customer service is poor and is unsanitary. The flight of steps and parking are horrible. Plus my eyebrows are lop sided. read more

I am SUUUPER happy with my brows and professional service I received at Miss Kay's. A couple of people recommended a place in Waukee for micro blading, but after checking out their website it just didn't fit my expectations. I was concerned about the end result of the color and shape of my brows. After consulting with Kay about color, she matched me perfectly! I had the same awful experience as Shelia B. did but I went more often and now my lashes are damaged from too much glue/adhesive being used. I've had eye lash extensions for over 3yrs and never had any damage. I moved to the Ankeny/Des Moines area from a bigger City and in a two short months my lashes were damaged. And then I found out that Kay Deems the Owner and the person doing my fills isn't even Licensed to do eye lash extensions. Ladies Beware, please do not go to Miss Kay's to get Eye Lash Extensions ever. Doesn't even deserve 1 Star rating. read more

I would NOT recommend going to Miss Kay's for any service. One of my friends got her eyebrows done by Kay in which she was supposed to touch up, and never did or would. My friend also took her training class that she paid $4700 for that was supposed to be completed in 4 days. Kay's clients would cancel and then she would also be out clients to complete her training then it became her responsibility to find clients even though it wouldn't be any different if my friend microbladed the "models" or her actual clients because Kay still essentially charged them the same amount making the models think they got a deal, when they didn't and my friend didn't get paid for doing them. There were many times Kay even left the room during training to leave her there alone with the client. She didn't help "train" her whatsoever. She would always just tell her she's doing it wrong and make her guess what it is she's doing or she'd jump in and take over. My friend started her training in August, it is now December and she still has not completed her training. Kay refused all of this time to schedule any sort of training her her when finally recently she agreed to set a date to complete training, one day prior - Kay messaged her and told her she wasn't fit for microblading and it would be a waste of Kay's time to continue to train her. My friend then asked for a refund as barely any training was completed and the OWNER refuses to complete the training and will not pass her OR give her money back. WHAT A JOKE! I don't recommend Miss Kay. When I went for my touch up and explained what I wanted changed she did what she wanted. I went back and asked about it a couple weeks later and she told me she did what she thought was normal. Not what I asked her to do. She said she could try to fix it but I would have to pay for it. Really? One eyebrow is A LOT darker than the other one. I have had several people ask me about it. It's embarrassing. I can't wait for them to fade enough that I can go to someone else to fix them so I'm not so self conscious about them. She may be less expensive. You get what you pay for. I will not make that mistake again. Especially, with my face. Hopefully, others do their research before using Miss Kay. read more

I went to Miss Kay's under a recommendation from a friend for eyelash extensions. I have been wearing eyelash extensions for over a year but couldn't get in with usual stylist due to illness. I was able to get in right away. The salon and boutique was quite nice. Kay and the staff were very nice and I was happy to get in for a fill since I had an event that I wanted them done for the upcoming weekend. It only took her around 45 minutes but I'm sad to say that the extensions did not turn out well! There was too much glue used and as a result instead of an extension added to my individual lashes my own lashes ended up being glued together. My lashes actually hurt like what it feels like if someone is pulling your hair only it was my lashes. As if that wasn't bad enough because so much glue was used which the fumes from the glue caused a reaction as if I had a chemical burning in my eyes. I could hardly see to drive home. Now I can tell you this is not usual and I'd never had that reaction before. I had to have the extensions removed and it caused damage to my natural lashes. I've been taking Biotin to help them grow back. I usually don't like to do these reviews but hopefully it will help when people are looking for a reputable salon for eyelash extensions. It could have been just my experience but unfortunately I would not recommend this salon for lashes. Because of this I only give this salon 1 star and that was only because the staff were pleasant and the boutique was nice. read more
