If my wife and I had not decided to work with Douglas and Olivia, our relationship would have ended…read moreon an extremely nasty note. We were initially attracted to them precisely because they operate as a team - as my dad once told me "a marriage counselor either takes sides or is ineffective". The very first time we met, one of the first things they told us was that they had no idea whether or not they could save our relationship (nor whether it was worth saving), but that if we worked with them, we would understand what went wrong - and help to ensure we didn't make the same mistakes in the future. One of the first exercises they offered to us was a list of questions to ask your partner BEFORE getting married - most of the items (which dealt with very basic beliefs) had never occurred to us, but were clearly important to determining whether or not there was a fundamental incompatibility with your partner. This exercise alone, if taught to people embarking on their first mature relationships, would eliminate a phenomenal degree of heartbreak in the world. As other reviewers have mentioned, Douglas and Olivia are a joy to speak with (sessions only rarely "feel like counselling"). Their manner and personalities encourage open and honest communication, and facilitate difficult or sensitive discussions to a frankly amazing degree. Whether or not they can help salvage your relationship, you will be a better partner (and person in general) after working with them.

It was such a joy to work with this wonderful couple who brought a deep intelligence, compassion and hope into our lives, while teaching us how to understand ourselves and each other better, in order to interact more harmoniously. They inspired us to learn more about how we each live in the world and we experienced a lot of personal growth quickly. We thoroughly enjoyed our sessions with them immensely because they were able to make the work fun. We could laugh at ourselves in a non-judgmental way, and learn to make better choices. They communicated so well as to the "issues" and helped us discover the way to make needed changes, painlessly. The whole experience was completely enlightening and I highly recommend them to any couple or individual in need of creating a better relationship with a spouse or significant other and/or having healthier/more profound relationships with others and even themselves -- You cannot help but experience deep personal growth in the process. Since working with them, we have continued along that path to better self awareness/understanding and have sustained healthier interactions overall. They provided us with some great tools, strategies, information to use all the time. If you are looking for a way through an unhealthy and/or unhappy relationship, or relationships, or just want to understand yourself better and why people react to you as they do or why you react the way you do, you owe it to yourself to contact Douglas and Olivia!

Also they are solution-focused, client-centered and dedicated to fostering self-awareness, an extremely technical expertise and specialization which is quite rare these days and an important distinction between them and other practices. Especially refreshing is their openness to intellectual and philosophical exploration -- they welcome thoughtful reflection about the nature of the therapeutic process itself. They relish questions about the therapeutic mask, over-pathologization, the paradoxes, structure, inherent tensions and artificiality of the therapeutic frame, asymmetric authenticity, power dynamics, and performative empathy. My spouse breached custody orders related to co - parenting more times than I care to remember. Contrary to what others said in their reviews here, he did not favor her. Dr. Pickar basically observed our children with each parent, assessing how each of us was with our children. His behavior with each of our two children was that of a school principal, a bit distant, but chuckling when our then pre schooler said she had candy bars in her bedroom "for company" as though she were a society hostess from the fifties. He was kind, but unemotional and objective. Our children were very comfortable with him despite being very young and having been through quite a bit. Contrary to what someone else said, he also completed the nearly ninety page, very well written report in record time-mere months-something the court social worker had very much requested. His report cited specific incidents and specific issues that drew him to reach his ultimate conclusion-giving me full custody. I really need to wonder about those giving Dr. Pickar such negative reviews; probably the evaluation did not go as they anticipated. Dr. Pickar is not warm and fuzzy; he is not your uncle dressing as Santa on Christmas Eve. He is a professional psychologist, very well trained and experienced, with a job to do-and he does it.

He never did the completed report, my bad for not asking him to finish. Too late to ask now.read more

Ben provided me with the tools to figure it out on my own teaching me perseverance was my middle name with resiliency in my rear view. I have been learning to show myself care, and learning to cut myself some slack. I have been learning to let life unfold and not play the puppet master so much. I have taken myself out on countless solo dates and adventures getting to know the goddess of my heart. The tools Ben taught me, gave me permission to explore myself experiencing life on human terms. He helped me take a deeper look at myself, and see why I seemed to care so deeply about the judgment of others. He helped me let that go, and I continue to let my ego go as often as I become aware. He showed me how to heal. I think of our sessions often and think to myself, "what would Ben say, or have me do to let the energy be there, and process it." He showed me how to work on my shadow allowing all she is, to just be. Ben has helped teach me to live life on life's terms. I used to think I'm in control of my surroundings where somehow expectations always seemed to disappoint. He guided me to find solace in my breath, to allow my emotions to be present without judgment, and gave me permission to follow my bliss where I can find inner peace. I will forever appreciate his help and guidance while his energy has stuck with me all this time in continuing to do the work. I feel as though once we turn the pages in our lives, we rarely find the time or energy to express our appreciation to those who made a difference, and this is me flexing my vulnerability as Ben made a huge impact on my life. Thank you. Thank you from my whole heart. Thank you for choosing this line of work; it truly is transformational!

Erin is one of those rare souls who has found her life's work in psychotherapy and is doing it as a labor of love. Of course Erin charges money for her time, and her time is worth every penny she charges. But it's not a job to Erin - it's a calling. She is generous to a fault, skillful, honest, and trustworthy. Erin's expertise and professionalism as a therapist, combined with her considerable natural ability as a listener, confidant, and truly concerned person-in-your-corner, make her counseling nothing short of superb. Over the years I've found that therapists are mostly well-meaning but mediocre. Erin, however, is a champ. 99th percentile. At the very top, among the best of the best, in my experience. Time spent hunting for the right therapist is often time wasted, at best; but you won't waste time or energy with Erin. Personal fit between therapist and client critical, though it's impossible to predict. If Erin's not the right person for the job, she likely knows who is, or can give you reliable guidance and direction in your search. The benefit that I, my wife and daughter, and our entire family have gained from our association with Erin Anderson is profound, substantial, long-lasting, and extremely valuable. Thanks to Erin's hand-holding, careful advice, attentive listening ear, her faith in us, and her ability to see the big picture, we've dodged many a pothole in the various roads we've trod as a couple and as a family. You can do it. Erin can help. Thank you, Erin, for everything!
