My neighbor recommended I go there as they were selling their whiskey barrels for 19.99. It was pretty crowded as memorial weekend. But I was helped immediately. The girl behind the counter advised how much dirt I Wooten need for two barrels, then told me she would send someone out to help me load. While it is a lot smaller than a Home Depot, one can find almost anything they need here for home projects, garden etc. And it is always easy to find someone to help you find something, give excellent advise on how to fix something etc. That is not often true of the bigger box hardware stores. This Ace has has a large inventory of basic home hardware supplies. The upstairs gift section is very fun for last minute gift ideas. I only come here because it's the closest Ace. The service is terrible. Ace is usually where you go for impeccable service, but this one finds you requesting basic help every time I go in. The younger staff actually works harder at avoiding good customer service. I bought 3 6x3 redwood planter boxes from Mission Hardware in Santa Rosa. Rob was very helpful in selecting boxes They had wire bottom to protect from gophers. Boxes were delivered promptly. The two employees delivered and set them up where we need them. The whole transaction was great. Driver call to let me know they were on way. They were careful of my property and plants. I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing in a hardware store. Let alone writing a review. My contractor sent me here with a torn up bag of "quick set" and told me he needed more. The checkout counter was super helpful. Out of stock in my color, but reassured me that this is the stuff that goes under the tile, so the color really doesn't matter. Got me all set with my ridiculously heavy 50lb bag of white powder and I was on my merry way. I was clearly a fish out of water and didn't feel judged. Moving to Rincon Valley in Santa Rosa was one of the best decisions I've made, I love it here! When looking for tools, hardware, garden supplies, and home improvement items, I had previously gone to Friedman's or Home Depot. Warehouse type home improvement centers can spoil you with the vast amounts of variety available and also generally low pricing. But, being an adaptable person, I checked out an ACE hardware store for the first time. Mission Ace Lumber & Hardware is a locally owned and family run business a few miles from my house on Highway 12. You can easily pass it by as you motor down the highway towards Sonoma Valley. It has a distinctive display of a classic vintage pickup truck out front, wine barrels, and assorted items that catch your eye if you look. You immediately get a small town feel when you drive through the gates and park in the small lot. I found some normal "hardware store" things there I needed like LED light bulbs, garden sand, hummingbird food and songbird food, adhesives, picture hooks, etc. All the folks were helpful and polite. What really makes this ACE different and why I am giving it five stars is the upstairs boutique "Loft". A couple of the women in this family business have created a store within a store. It is simply delightful with scores of unique items like a curio cabinet full of memories. I have purchased at least a dozen things from this boutique (see photos). Like most men, tools and home improvement stores really appeals to me. Yet I have an artistic and honestly a feminine side that truly appreciates delicate things and warm presentations, like the Boutique Loft at the Mission Ace Lumber & Hardware store. Been a customer here for 40 years. Always has what I need for home repairs, gardening, etc... People are helpful. The old guys can give advice on how to fix just about anything. I bought a Weber BBQ several weeks ago during a special that included free assembly and delivery. It did not work, I called Weber who diagnosed a faulty valve and sent out a new one.......still didn't work so I visited the store and was very put off by my interaction with the manager which led to a subsequent conversation that didn't go well. I was angry and nasty. To make a long story short, even after my poor behavior he sent someone out to pick up the BBQ, fix it and bring it back to me. Apparently the BBQ was fine, it must have been our gas tank that caused the problem so he threw one in! I was initially very critical of his customer service but clearly he is someone that will bend over backwards to make it right. I very much appreciate his help and publicly apologize for my behavior. read more

I am old enough to remember the old fashioned hardware store that was a fixture in many American communities. I used to love just walking around looking at all the treasures. Big box stores have largely taken over the hardware business, but here in Santa Rosa there are a few of these neighborhood stores left. Mission Ace does not disappoint on selection. There are loads of do dads, widgets, nuts and bolts, and other stuff for you to peruse. Just walk through the store for a bit and be amazed at all they have in stock. Head up stairs to check out the lawn and garden décor. What really sets these stores apart from the big box stores is the service. On the service front Mission Ace delivers too. Almost every time I go in, someone meets me at the door and asks if they can help. My most recent foray was to find a light bulb changer to help me reach some can lights in my high ceilinged kitchen. The very helpful staff pointed me in the right direction and helped me get what I needed. The only reason I can't give a perfect score for this store is that it, like many others, is very seasonal. When I was in during the winter to find grilling equipment, they did not have what I needed. Not a huge problem; I get that they have limited space. I really felt like the customer service in this place lacked when I went in for the first time this weekend. I did notice coffee and donuts awaiting guests as they came in so the mgmt is trying but the staff seem to not be up to par. Just standing around not helpful at all, even looking rude. I didn't have any interaction with them but I guess that just proves my point. I'll be sticking to True Value on Montgomery. They carry all your regular hardware parts plus have a small lumber area and a fairly good selection of planting pots and fountains. read more

Tyson was our hardware service provider today. He was so knowledgeable, quick and efficient. He made our purchase of Behler troughs and potting soil a quick and easy event. This "Ace" has a really good variety of stuff, but isn't on Ace Hardware's national database so you do not get any Ace Rewards points, nor do they participate in any of Ace's national sales events (20% everything that fits in a bag type things). It was quite disappointing to go on that day only to find out that there was no discount. They do give you a 10% discount if you have a Rewards card (only because you get no points there). read more

I have been buyiing construction materials at Mission Ace for years. Knowledgeable staff, good service. I think Nikki's experience was a 1-time aberration. (Maybe she works for True Value!) Prices far better than typical Ace's (compare to Ace on Yulupa), so why wait for a discount day to get a discount on jacked-up prices at national Ace when you get discounted prices daily at this Ace?. Lumber is better quality than the picked-over crap at Home Depot. Quality and prices competitive with Friedman's and prices cheaper that Mead Clark. And, yes, the Montgomery True Value is good, too, but they don't sell lumber. read more

I just came back from buying several items at Mission Hardware. There were many people standing around, and when I asked where several things were they pointed in a disinterested manner. When I went to buy some caulk I could have been shown a small size as I explained what I was using it for. I am so disgusted with this place . I have been going here for over 25 years . The last five times they have been less than helpful, annoyed and indifferent. Today was the worst .
