I always prefer going here, but Home Depot is much closer. But I learned today that I would have spent much less time to have gone here first. Two HD employees sent me to the wrong area of the store, then once there it took took more than 30-minutes to find anyone to help me. And, the "expert" sent me home with seven of the wrong size. True Value Hardware I walked in was greeted immediately and got immediate help. Owner apologized because he didn't have a one pack and he had to sell me just two! It was the right kind and size. With the extra driving time, it still took 25-minutes less to go to True Value than the closer Home Depot. read more

I really like this place. It is just down the street from my office, so it is very convenient, but also has good prices and the people are genuinely helpful! They have quality paint brushes and I took there recommendation on which one to buy (Purdy) and it is fantastic! It is the best paint brush I have ever used. They also have a pretty good inventory of random things you need. I've bought screws, cleaning supplies, light bulbs (which were a great buy and very energy efficient), and a number of other things. They have saved me from driving across town so many times. Oh, they are also supper cool with returns. I bought the wrong size screws and had opened the package, but they took it back and got me what I needed. read more

OMG! I bought a very expensive flashlight 2 years ago. The gal that worked there said it was "The Best", (so I believed her). It came with a "Lifetime Warranty ". I thought Great! We live in Kenwood area and we were evacuated for 10 days due to fires and power outages, so I thought this would be a flashlight to"Count On!" I am an older woman in my late 60's and thought , well, this should be a good investment! Well, when I needed the flashlight to work, it Didn't. I took it back to the hardware store in Montgomery Village area, and one of the employees stated, "You should definitely get a replacement, OR your money back. there is something wrong with it." The owner Fred Dada , after 5 phone calls, said," You're supposed to check the batteries regularly. They're corroded." Who does this? (The battery had corroded in less than 2 years!) He said He Would NOT replace it or give me a Refund! I WILL NEVER USE THIS HARDWARE STORE AGAIN OR REFER ANYONE HERE!! There are too many hardware stores to spend your money or time at. We just moved to the area and have been checking out retailers that we can establish a relationship and do business with. I needed a Hack saw, Drill with extra bits, a ladder and some paint. I entered this store this morning and forgot my mask. The old lady behind the counter called me on it and I went back to the car and got. I asked where the hack saw were and she barley gave me the time of day to ID where they were. I walked past the area because of that, but a young man directed me. This woman needs some additional customer training. I won't be back, but whoever owns this True Value outlet needs to inform her that her personally is costing then lost business. I love this place. They seem to have almost anything that you might need (or didn't know you needed). Granted the prices are a bit higher than the big box stores, but you are supporting a locally owned business. I always rent various tools from here as they have a great amount of inventory and offer good rates. The employees are always very helpful as well. read more

This is a great place for a little hardware store. Although we often need heavy-duty hardware shopping, many times we need something small and quick or occasionally need to rent something. The store has a good selection, a good rental centre, and the owner and staff are very friendly and helpful.
