This was my first and last time eating a Mission BBQ. While the ambiance and decor were supportive of the military, the food was not. I ordered the small sampler of ribs and pulled pork, as well as the smoked salmon. None of these items had any decent flavor and the sauces were mediocre at best. I love Mission BBQ, but was disappointed with this new location. If I have to pay extra for meat, I expect to see it and know that I actually had some. All I had was a large container of lettuce and a half a scoop of chopped brisket. I'll just drive the extra miles to Greenbelt or Annapolis. read more

Greeted by multiple staff upon entry. Not overboard like at some places, just the right amount to acknowledge you. The menu is basically a la carte with a couple combo options. The brisket to me stood out the most but everything was excellent including the carrot cake which was moist and had a nice size dollop of sour cream frosting. The service was extremely fast and friendly especially in the dinning area. A staff member who was cleaning the tables over heard us talking about trying the carrot cake and generously brought us over some. Extremely nice. The sauce selection should accommodate most palates. I leaned towards the Texas twang that was bbq with a hit of acid/vinegar, nice. The side dishes are very good. The Mac and cheese hit the spot. This place has great customer service and you will be eating within a couple minutes of your arrival. It is unlimited refills on drinks, self serve. read more

I should have given this place a stellar review a long time ago. I can't say enough nice things about this location. The staff at the register is polite and gets your order right every time. The food, which is delicious, comes out promptly every time (almost too prompt, to tell you the truth-sometimes I haven't made it to my table yet, and the order is ready). The staff which attends to the floor is always courteous, too, and checks on you to make sure everything is OK. This place is a well-oiled machine and a model for how a fast casual concept can and should work. While I have enjoyed everything I've tried on the menu, the brisket and pulled pork are my favorites. And the fries are some of the best you can get, too. I don't even live close to this location and it's become my go-to spot. Plus, it's all at a price that doesn't put a hole in my wallet. Try this...place an order that includes french fries. Watch the cashier/order-taker perform this dramatic call out [presumably to the kitchen] "Fry Down!" [as if to imply that they are making your fries or at least re-heating your fries to order]. Then look at the actual choreography that "doesn't" ensue in the kitchen... No fries are dropped and in fact, your order is scooped off of a mountain of pre-made fries [that tasted & are warm as if they were made hours before]. However, I caution you against insisting to the manager that you will gladly wait for them to actually drop you fresh fries, because that draws the ire of the 2 managers that I've spoken with about their theatrical performance and alerting other patrons to their ruse. Between that and the inconsistent quality of their brisket [sometimes savory & pulled to order while other times like ground, dry sawdust], I'd suggest checking out another Mission location. I love this place. Was so excited when I saw they were building one near me. I ordered the 5 bone St Louis rib platter. The ribs were tender and moist. The French fries were piping hot and fresh and the green beans were off the chain. They serve you quick here. The customer service is excellent. People came to our table to check on us several times. I got the peach cobbler to take home for later. I made the mistake of sampling it while waiting at this long ass light on 301. I am embarrassed to say that the cobbler did not make it home. When I first learned that Mission BBQ was opening a location in Gambrills, I was ecstatic. I have been to their Greenbelt location and I really enjoyed their food and service. I went to the Gambrills location a couple days ago and picked up some great food: a pulled chicken sandwich, cole slaw and fries. Everything was excellent. They serve some of the best cole slaw I have had. What I don't appreciate, however, is the rude employee who gave me my food. He called my name and when I approached the counter, he opened the box of food and stared at me. After a few seconds, he asked, "Is this what you ordered?" While I appreciate him giving me the opportunity to see my order, I think some verbal communication was called for here, as the store was busy and loud and it was not immediately obvious that he was looking for me to verify the order was correct. After I confirmed my order was correct, he asked me what kind of sauce I wanted. This was my first time visiting Mission BBQ in more than six months, so I didn't recall the exact names of the sauces, nor did I see them listed anywhere (if they were in plain sight, my fault!). I asked the employee what the options were and after a long pause and deep breath, he listed the options. Again -- his communication skills could use some work. He then put sauce in the box and handed it to me. I said, "thank you" and he avoided eye contact, turned his head and walked away without responding. I would expect someone in his position to be kind, friendly and eager to assist. He did not exhibit any of these traits. My first experience at this location was poor in terms of customer service, but the food was excellent, as always! Update: I picked up food from this location last week and my experience, from beginning to end, was excellent. The employees were friendly and helpful and the food was delicious. Contrary to what I said in my initial review, I did see the sauces plainly listed on the counter where you pick up your food. I'll definitely be returning. read more

We just moved to the area and I was not a fan of our local BBQ joint in Dayton, OH (even though my hubby was). Everyone around here was talking about Mission BBQ, so we had to try it... even though I was reluctant. But OH. MY. GOSH. It was AMAZING. Life changing even. I had the pulled pork sandwich (NC style with slaw on top) and it was incredible. The pork was so tender and juicy and the flavor was on point. My husband tried their brisket on our first visit, but really enjoyed my pulled pork better, so that's what we both order now. They have several barbeque sauces to choose from, but my favorite the the Memphis Belle, which is sweet. We have gotten their french fries as a side, which I enjoyed a lot on our first visit, but the second time they were overly salty. Also, if you order the kids meal (which we did for our son) you get PLENTY of fries. As in, an adult-size portion. Just FYI. We have been to this location twice and the one in Columbia once, and this location near Waugh Chapel is my favorite. Although I ordered the same thing at the Columbia location, it was much better tasting at this location, BOTH times. However, I don't find the staff to be friendly at either location really, which is sad. For as military-oriented as they are, I'm really surprised that they do not offer a military discount, especially being so close to Ft. Meade. Also a bummer. But solid choice for good bbq. So thankful to have a Mission BBQ closer to my neighborhood. Like the rest of the restaurants this location is amazing. The staff was super nice from the moment you walked in to the moment you walk you. I got the xxl platter, brisket with green beans, baked beans and corn bread and like the other locations I have come to love it was mmmm mmmm delicious. Been to this location twice so far. They have a friendly staff that usually greets you as you walk in. The restaurant has a military/police/fire department appreciation feel which l personally enjoy. Food was good, l got the brisket and pulled chicken with greens beans and mac&cheese. Decently priced you can expect to spend between $8-$15 depending on what you get. Good choice of drinks too. First Timer at mission BBQ tonight. The counter girl was very courteous and helpful. I picked up a sliced beef brisket sandwich, green beans, mac and cheese and drink. My daughter had a kids brisket slider green beans and drink. I loved every bit of my meal. So delicious! My daughter had a ball trying the different sauces. She also liked the sliced brisket. Then she tried the green beans and said she liked them but they were to spicy for her. 7 yrs old and has a nose for even a spec of pepper in anything. I will warn you about the guys cleaning the tables, there a bit jumpy about cleaning up. My daughter went to the rest room and I thought I would grab a drink while she was away. When I came back the table was empty. They had to remake my daughters food after eating only a couple bites. Now I will say this, the girl that was cleaning the tables jumped right up when I was confronting the boy (dazed and confused) who threw our food away and she said, " No problem, what did your daughter have?" and brought us out a plate of food and gave us a complimentary desert. Which I think really saved the day. After dinner I had to order takeout for my wife and decided to order a chopped brisket sandwich for later for myself. My wife had the pulled chicken and loved it. I was not so excited about the chopped brisket. I thought it was the sliced brisket, chopped up, originally. It wasn't! The chopped brisket was coated with a not so good sauce that i didn't ask for. It tasted like it was all the burnt edges and discarded over cooked pieces that nobody wants to eat. It was almost like they took all the overcooked meat and threw it in a frying pan dumped some sauce on it and then over cooked it some more. The sauce might have been good at one time but it had the flavor of the burnt pieces melded into it. It was a little disappointing after tasting how good the sliced brisket was. I always watch the behaviors of the staff at every restaurant I go to and usually pick up on bad practices of the inexperienced while doing so. I guess its a habit after working in so many restaurant through the years. The one thing i noticed was the busboy was walking around with the same dirty cloth cleaning one table after another without re-sanitizing the cloth after each table. Seems to me you wouldn't want to drag the gook of one table to another without sanitizing the rag first. I guess that is a pet peave of mine. Seems like most restaurants these days don't care much about keeping there tables sanitary for customers. Yea they might wipe them down but what you have to ask yourself is,"Is it that same dirty rag as the last ten tables?" I'm not saying tables are dirty at Mission BBQ but it seems like they may already be falling into a general bad habit that most restaurants do. Nothing drives me crazy more than setting my arms down on a table full of gook. Just sayin! Another bonus was grabbing a bottle of BBQ sauce covered in BBQ sauce. Just a suggestion clean the outside of the sauce bottle after each customer when cleaning table and not with that same dirty rag you cleaned 10 tables with. I am not just sayin this to mission BBQ I'm talking to the all the other restaurants guilty of this behavior. Just sayin. I worked in restaurants when I was a teen busing tables and I used a spray bottle of windex and paper towels cleaning the tables spotless and took pride in leaving the tables clean for customers. If I ever left a table not properly clean my manager would come down on me like a ton of bricks. But I also made a lot of money in tips busing tables back then. All in all the food we had was pretty good except for the one dish and most of the staff was on the ball, nice and cordial. I would suggest you try it for yourself and see if you like it. I love their military friendly that's a huge bonus in my book so many places could care less about recognizing our men and women of the armed forces and when you walk in, it's very obvious and I think that's an amazing value to have. Was really excited to see a BBQ spot closer to me but I have to say I am sorely disappointed! The wait staff was excellent, got my take-out order really quickly. The Baby Back ribs were overly seasoned and way too salty, the baked beans were too mushy, and the cornbread was tasteless. No need to mention the cole-slaw. I will admit I am really critical when it comes to BBQ because I am a Memphis girl born and raised so I know good BBQ. Well aware this is a chain and my expectations weren't such that I knew it would be as good as that in Memphis but hope does spring eternal. I will maintain my allegiance to Famous Dave's - they do it better when it comes to chains. Sorry! read more
