The music in the dining room ranges from pop to barbecue culture themed and you can actually hear it like you're at a party! The prices may be a little high for some people, but you certainly get a well-made meal! We enjoyed the pulled pork with the cornbread, mac & cheese, and the green beans. The pulled pork seemed to have some chicken mixed into it and green beans seem to have too much pepper or something in it. The service was quick and friendly The beverage station was Pepsi and right across from the condiments, easy to get in and out if you were in a hurry! This has been on my bucket list for awhile. About 35 minutes drive from Wheeling. I also met 2 friends from Grayslake. First time, made me sad that it took me so darn long to get here. Young lady at cash register/ counter took time to fully explain menu and make recommendations. So very helpful. Their dining room, which was immaculate manager, Rose was so nice and very proud of her success there. Young man, manager also came by our table and gave us great background on this national chain. Hidden gem here. Came and tried this place for dinner. The restaurant is military themed, with a lot of military and ex-military patrons. The place was nice and clean, everything was in good order. Service was quick and friendly. Prices were very fair, with the exception of the add sides + drink option which I think should be priced a bit lower. The BBQ here is really solid. My brisket was the moistest and tenderest I have ever had. The sides were really the only disappointing part of the experience. The corn muffins were dry and did not taste good, and the mac and cheese was dry and had very little cheese sauce. The fries are good, however. They have many different sauces at the table (six IIRC) as well as a roll of paper towels. Overall, I would absolutely recommend this place if you are in the mood for BBQ. I don't think you will find better for the price. I would stick with fries for the side though. If they can just fix those sides, this place will be an easy 5 stars! read more

Overall, a wonderful experience, the staff is friendly, and their mission is focused on military and first responders, always a good cause to support. The food is above average for a chain barbecue. I was a little disappointed with some of the sauces offered. But, to make up for it, the brisket was juicy and the ribs were fall off the bone delicious. I also had the jalapeno cheddar sausage, but I was so full from the ribs and the brisket and the sides, that I didn't get a chance to try it, I brought it home with me. Prices are reasonable. They have blue colored cream soda in a bottle available. I had two bottles. They don't pair very well with barbecue, just a heads up. Stick with a root beer, Coca-Cola, or just plain water. The staff is surprisingly friendly and welcoming, as opposed to many restaurants where the workers look like they'd rather be somewhere, anywhere else while taking care of you. The food is really good, and reasonable considering what you are getting, and the restaurant is always very clean . Mission BBQ is the saddest excuse for BBQ I've ever encountered. The food is clearly prepared in advance. Nothing fresh happening in this kitchen. The salmon was dog biscuit dry and tasted very fishy. The yard bird/half chicken was the same. Over cooked and sitting in a warmer. My food was ready 2 minutes after ordering. Finally had the chance to stop in at Mission BBQ. They support those who serve our country, which is evident in their decor. Seeing all the pictures on the wall is heartwarming. The employees are all very friendly and when they realized it was our first time they gave us the run down of the menu. Everything sounded so good but finally decided on the Brisket Sandwich combo and Pulled Chicken Sandwich combo. Combos come with a side a drink. Sides we tried were the fries, cheesy potatoes, and macaroni and cheese. The brisket is coated in their memphis Belle sauce which I enjoyed. On the table of you're dining in they six sauces you can enjoy. It was fun trying out the different sauces on the pulled chicken. Their sides are also delicious but on the smaller side when it comes with the combo. Their sweet tea and lemonade are really good. Overall a good experience. Tasty food, friendly service. read more

Really had a great time at missions bbq. The food was tasty and everything was as affordable. We got the beef brisket and half a yard bird. For the beef brisket, you can choose to get a lean cut. For a family of 5, I was able to feed everyone for 40 bucks. We had allot of fun trying the different bbq sauces. The staff was super helpful, they were able to give recommendations, and they make sure you have everything you need. One of the girls that was cleaning the tables offered to get us so utensils or more napkins for the table, such an awesome gesture. We tried the caramel apple dessert, which was delicious. Inside the restaurant, the decor is dedicated to those who have served our country, which is super cool. Hoo rah! read more

Oooooh I love good BBQ. And this place has good BBQ. Brisket is the best outside of Mom's. Pulled pork and chicken were both excellent quality. I always figure it's good if my picky eater likes it, and he liked it even after a full meal of Raising Cane's. 7 different sauces to try, and I do mean different. Each was distinct and I liked all of them. Green beans with bacon, baked beans, potato salad and corn bread all hit the spot. My kids went up to buy extra corn bread and they handed them 3 free. What wonderful service. Speaking of service, the place supports our veterans and that just makes the deal so much sweeter. Very casual and easy after a long day at the theme park near by. I finally had a chance to stop at Mission BBQ. If you've never been, it's a bbq place with a theme that honors those in the armed services, as well as police and other first responders. They had three televisions showing pictures of service members and vets. This is a nice touch but why not have a game on one of the TV's. Oddly I felt like I wasn't in Gurnee anymore. I kind of felt like I was in Texas. Anyway I had the chopped brisket sandwich. It was very good. My only complaint is that it already comes with sauce on it. If you want to choose your sauce then you have to get the sliced brisket. I don't know which sauce was on my sandwich but it was good. Fortunately it wasn't the Chicago sweet. I thought that was awful. However my daughter thought the opposite. She had the pulled pork sandwich and didn't like the Smokey mountain sauce. They have 4 other sauces, which I didn't try because I got my food to go. I will go here again to try some other items off the menu. read more

I know it's a chain, but it really needs to execute a good baby back rib! Urban BBQ was better and the ribs at least came wet or dry, but here there were not preheated, but served very cold and very dry, no tenderness because the meat was overcooked like they were from lunch time. The meat was so dry I drenched it in sauce and it didn't help. I did like the various teas and lemonade available beside the soda fountain. And only the fresh cut fries were done and were perfect (just added too much seasoning and I was thirsty afterward) Not likely to go back, but it's right next to Gurnee Mills and close to the highway. You really can't go wrong here. From brisket to chicken, lean to moist. There is no bad choice. Add in the delicious cornbread, fries, or the ever changing dessert of the season, and you're in paradise. The staff are ALWAYS fun and friendly. The venue itself is intriguing. You'll always see their oversized catering military style truck parked outside. Inside you'll see a wall of character and history. This business chain is very military and first responder friendly. And it doesn't get much more American than good Ole fashioned bbq. I must admit, I've been to this business more than once(I mean 2x) in a week. It's "moist" option for BBQ is a welcome changeup, but it's like a "oh" it's almost like REALLY good Texas brisket, yet, it ISN'T. Sides are pretty bland overall and really when there are better places for BBQ like Steamboat BBQ all the way in Wheaton then that's all you need to know to go somewhere that isn't a chain like Mission BBQ. I have driven by this place way too many times and finally made it in. Right off the bat, you could smell the smoky meats before you open the door! As you enter, the entire right wall is dedicated to military, police, and fire! It's worth it to take a few minutes and look at all of the amazing pictures. I was greeted by one of the employees right away who was genuinely friendly. Everything looked and smelled great but I went with the pulled chicken sandwich. I couldn't believe just how quickly it came out. He also threw in a few of the sweet and spicy containers of sauce. The sandwich was absolutely great with the spicy sauce! Today I was on my own for lunch, went in to take it home. Am I glad I did. Ordered the two meat combo, Brisket lean and jalapeño sausage with Mac & chesse. It came with a piece of corn bread which was very good. Brisket was tender and tasty. Sausage was well seasoned, moist and a nice grind ! M & C was tasty and crisp on top, just how I like it.
