Saw Mission BBQ across from my hotel on a work trip and decided to stop by for dinner. The store decor and layout is just like a BBQ spot you'd find in Texas! I had the combo and tried brisket and pulled pork and both were so moist and tender. The tables give you an option of different sauces to pair them with. The mac and cheese was recommended to me by the staff and was so rich and cheesy! The cold slaw didnt disappoint either. May stop by again before I head back east!

Dined in for an early Saturday dinner. No wait time. Food came out hot, generously portioned. This place never disappoints. It's a bit pricey but the food is good. The Mac n cheese was hot and cheesy, a nice crisp crumb topping. The side of cornbread was delicious with a nice crisp outer crust. The best Mission BBQ location between Lancaster and Dauphin County. I will travel to Berks County for dining that's consistent and never disappoints. We also took home the seasonal dessert, which was cherry cheesecake. Very delicious! Wish they had that year round. Pros: Friendly staff, ample seating, clean restroom (although the first women's stall is kinda tight, the door does not swing flush with the wall due to the sanitary bin. You kinda enter on angle.)

Coming from California on business and this place took barbecue to a whole new level. Hands down, the best we've ever had! Every bite was packed with smoky, tender perfection, and the flavors were out of this world. The service was just as incredible--welcoming, fast, and genuinely friendly. And the ambience? Perfectly inviting, with just the right mix of warmth and energy and honoring our veterans is a huge plus! We loved it so much, we came back three days in a row for lunch. If that doesn't say it all, we don't know what does! We will definitely eat here for the 4th time if we're ever back in Reading, PA!

I had a solid experience. Super clean, and the service was friendly and welcoming. I ordered a sandwich, but I'll be honest, the bun was a miss for me. Ended up taking the brisket off and eating it on its own, and that's where it shined--tender, flavorful, and just really good BBQ. The mac and cheese was creamy and tasty (even with the breadcrumbs on top), and the fries were fresh and crispy. I also had fun trying all the BBQ sauces--definitely worth sampling them all. Overall, I'd say it's a great spot, and I'll be back to try something other than the sandwich next time. Solid 8/10 recommend.

So thankful for their great customer service. Arrived 15 min before closing and they were so friendly and professional. The food was still freshly made and delicious. We noticed the restaurant as we were driving by and decided to stop for a dinner. We got meat sampler with brisket (you can select a lean or a fatty cut), pulled pork and pulled chicken with sides of French fries (made for order), cole slaw and baked beans. One sampler was enough for two of us to share. Brisket was superb, tasty, lean, easily falling apart. Both pork and chicken were outstanding. French fries - delicious, and both cole slaw and baked beans were some of the very best I ever tasted. We also tried six different sauces with the meat (sauces are standing on every table), which was a fun exercise in itself (loved Tupelo Honey Heat, got 3 bottles to take home). Absolutely delicious meal. Most highly recommended.

Price- you can't beat it. All sides are around $2, and a large brisket sandwich was 12$ Food- The bbq is perfect. Meat falls off the bones. I got the Mac and cheese and it was amazing. The restaurant itself was decorated on theme, it made me smile a bit. My friend and I called this Pennsylvanias hidden gem! We would 100% come back.

Came around 1:30pm on a Sunday, wasn't too busy at all. Received our food quickly and service was great. Food was delicious and the cornbread comes with the meal (literally my favorite part of the meal since they make it so crispy). The only reason I removed a star was because my friend and I found it kind of stupid that they don't take straight military discounts and you have to sign up for their dumb loyalty thing which my friend did afterwards but like it's not stated anywhere ahead of time or anything to do that prior to ordering if you are a veteran.

There's a Mission BBQ near where we live. However, we've yet to get there (You know---so many restaurants so little time). When we discovered that there was one not far from our hotel, we decided to give it a try. We were here in the late afternoon on a weekday. At that time of day, there were a few people dining in. When we got to the register to give our order, we told the friendly young man that it was our first time here. That prompted him to explain the ordering process to us, which we appreciated. Basically, you look at the menu board (I would suggest looking at their menu online before getting here so you will come knowing what you want) pick what you want and place your order then pay for it. I was surprised to find that you can order baby back ribs by the rib. In other words, you can order just one rib. It's cheaper to order 5 together, so that's what I did. I also got 2 sides---green beans plus mac and cheese. My husband, who has been searching for great brisket ever since he had some in Texas, ordered the brisket plus some baked beans. When I got my meal, I was surprised to find that instead of 5 ribs, they gave me 8---yikes! The ribs were falling-off-the-bone tender and meaty. At each table and booth, there are 6 bottles of different BBQ sauces. I chose a Memphis style one that was on the sweet side as it had honey in it. That was a good choice as it helped with amping up the flavor and adding some moisture to the ribs. The green beans had bacon in them which gave them great flavor. The mac & cheese was run-of-the mill, nothing to write home about it. There was so much food that I couldn't finish it all. The portion of brisket was 8 ounces. My husband thought it was okay, if a bit on the dry side. He used one of the BBQ sauces that had some kick to it. He really liked the baked beans as they had bits of brisket in them. Of course all of this caused him to wish he could have that brisket he had in Texas. For drinks, we both got fountain drinks. I got sweet tea while he got a soda. All in all, it was "A-OK". Service was excellent. If you want to dine at a Mission BBQ, and go with reasonable expectations, you won't be disappointed.

Instant fan for life! Great staff, moist food, delicious sauces! The attention to detail and quality of food makes this restaurant a must visit! Simple menu, with quality and fresh food. No freezers on the premises. Everything made fresh daily. A testament to their commitment to quality. A service members duty to stop in this joint. Military, police, and fireman friendly! My only disappointment lies in that their is not one vegetable on the menu without pork. The green beans look delicious but they are made with pork. Give me a veggie with all that delicious meat! read more

Food was all cooked very well. I grew up in eastern NC and was excited because they said they had NC BBQ. Let me tell you how f#cking gross that sad excuse for vinegar based sauce was. The reason I'm only giving it two stars is they try to pass off that piss in a bottle as NC BBQ. The food is better than that but they should visit Greenville NC sometime and get some BBQ before advertising that junk. read more

Great location just outside of Reading, PA. We went there for lunch on a Sunday, just in time to experience the National Anthem tradition at Noon. Our food was delicious. Some got the meat only, while I got the beef brisket sandwich. It's hard to choose which of the 6 BBQ sauces to use; I tried them all with my fries and settled on the Memphis as my favorite. Wash everything down with a sweet tea, and you have a very good meal. read more

The staff here rocks!! They always go the extra mile and are very friendly and personable... WHAT they do for our community: police officers, EMTS, fire dept, veterans, homeless veterans etc., they should be commended on all their hard work!! When I'm in the mood for bbq, this is my go to place. They have great brisket and pulled pork and good sides As good as the food is, the employees make this place truly great. My family always enjoys Mission BBQ. We ordered takeout and a pork sandwich and two drinks were missing from the order. We called and the manager told us to mention his name on the next order and they would provide the missing items. Well we did just that and the manager on duty refused to include the missing items. I even had my original receipt. The next morning I contacted manager Steve. He said the manager the night before should have honored our request for the missing items. Steve asked for my name and address. He sent us a gift card for $10 which was less than the value of the items we purchased, Really? After three extra phone calls to take care of the issue I was shocked by the handling of the situation. All I wanted was the food I had paid for. Not sure I will be a loyal patron going forward. read more

I didn't know what to expect for a "fast casual" barbecue joint. It exceeded my expectations! The sliced brisket sandwich had nice, thick, and juicy cuts of meat. The bun was hearty without being overwhelming. Definitely recommend it if you're looking for a quick, but wholesome meal. read more

The food and service here was amazing. I didn't give 5 stars because they told us they ran out of salmon AFTER we placed an order for it. Otherwise great BBQ!!! Loved this place! Very affordable, huge portions and everything I ordered (brisket, pulled pork and St Louis ribs) was tasty. They have lots of BBQ sauces and tried 6 and they were all good although their spicy one wasn't that spicy at all. Friendly service and BYOB! Would def return. read more

Easy to find right behind the Berkshire Mall. This is a Great place to get slow roasted meat and their selection of bone sucking sauces. All sides are homespun American options like fries, Cole slaw, Mac and cheese, apple cobbler, etc. the idea of using a quarter sheet pan for a tray is wonderfully clever. The decor is outdoorsy picnic table style with a choice of 6 sauces on the table. The walls are decorated with patches from local fire, police, and ambulance stations as well as a grand homage to our military heroes and veterans. My only gripe about the place is that it would be hard to find room for a wheel chair. There is also a small outdoor deck for seasonable weather. read more

Stopped here for lunch today. Staff is super friendly, over and beyond anything i have ever experienced. Military, LE, corrections and USA theme is awesome. Food was very good. The brisket and pulled pork was great, moist and flavorful. The oil that the french frys were cooked in needed to be changed, had a burnt grease taste. Cant wait to go back read more

It seems everyone is butt hurt about active military not being offered a discount. I am sorry, but it is a business with a bottom line and a P&L statement to maintain the restaurant. You all need to get over being so cheap. I hope everyone who complains gives a LOT of donations themselves. I am very supportive of the troops, but you all need to focus your attention on the moron political parties who remove benefits to our vets let alone seniors, who, by the way get no discounts either read more

Came in here with a big party (10 adults 5 kids) and was pleasantly surprised. It was about 4pm on a Saturday so the place wasn't busy which worked in our favor with 5 kids under the age of 6. The staff was really nice and patient with us and many came over to see how we were doing and helped clean the tables as we finished. Everyone was really happy with what they ordered and said how delicious it was. The chopped brisket sandwich I ordered was especially delicious. The sauces on the table were great and had amazing flavor. I'm not in this part of PA often but next time I am I think I'll definitely be making a trip to Mission BBQ again. read more

Been here twice since they opened and both times have been wonderful. It's an inspiration to everyone that has served or serving in the military. It's so appreciated. No one can beat the meats. Banana pudding and caramel apple cobbler was awesome. And they are reasonably priced for the portion you get. Great place! read more

BBQ... enough said. Well, maybe not. Was a little aprehensive when we first went here. This was my second visit (it was that good). Anyway, it is counter service only. The sampler platter is what I ordered both times. It was enough for my wife and I. My son had the kids platter. right around $30 total. That is pretty darn good price. The brisket, pork, ribs, all of it is awesomely prepared. I am a BBQ fanatic, I smoke my own meats as a hobby. This is good stuff... Plus they are focused around the service personel (military, fire, EMS, police, etc) The atmosphere is very laid back, food is served on brown paper on a aluminum tray. Staff are very friendly, and are walking around cleaning up and asking how your meal was. The NC Vinegar on the tables is awesome. I need to find the recipe. The fries are fresh cut and cooked perfect. The NC vinegar is the bomb on them. My son loves the place, he actually suggested we go there both time, one smart 7 year old, dad taught him well. read more

I was looking for a low cost dinner.Via Yelp I chose Mission BarBQue. It's a cafeteria style kinda place in regards to service and atmosphere is rustic. Don't be put off by the word "cafeteria" as the food was really good. As per usual, I plan one thing and do another. So instead of cheap I did the Black Plate Ribeye special combo w/1 side & drink.$14.83 .My side was mac and cheese. For me yummy! I wanted a whole lot more. Just the way I like and so hard to find, dry and crispy!! Creamy seems to be the trend. My ribeye was tender & delicious . It had a rub I found flavorful. Each table has a 6 pack of sauces to use.I like sweet over spicy.They also have a patio.I say give it a try if your a fan of BarBQue. read more

We tried out Mission BBQ a few weeks ago and safe to say, we were a bit disappointed. We have never been to one (I didn't know it was a chain restaurant until friends mentioned so) so our expectations were more of a sit-down table service place versus a BBQ fast food place. We each got BBQ sandwiches which tasted fine (not great but OK). We were a bit taken aback at the price of our meal (almost $30.00 for two of us). For that money, we could have gone to another BBQ place locally to get full meals (including alcohol) and table service. OK food but not good value for the money. read more

Yum-O!!! We ordered TakeOut and boy were we not disappointed!!! Pulled pork, beef brisket, baked beans, Mac and cheese, Cole slaw, French fries and cornbread. The pork was super tender. The brisket had excellent flavor. Baked beans were awesome with pieces of brisket in it. Im my opinion the Mac and cheese could have been a little cheesier but still had great flavor. Cole slaw could have been creamier. French fries were awesome. Cornbread was good too. Could have maybe had sweet butter? Service was awesome! Order was checked and shown to us before we left ensuring we had everything. Will definitely be going back when in the mood for BBQ!!! read more

I was here yesterday and I ordered the two meats an got a couple sides. The lady taking my order wasn't anything over the top or anything just overall very helpful and helped me come to a decision, the food came out fast and fresh, the baked beans weren't that good but the pork, chicken, and Mac was delish. I was also given a free desert right before I was about to leave, a chocolate pudding thing and it was soooo good (eating it now prompted me to write the review) but anyways, love this place good food read more

It was my first time here the atmosphere was nice a lot of cool patches and police and fire and army stuff food was not that great I had the pulled pork didn't have a really good taste tasted old the sausage was jalapeno and cheese that was okay mac and cheese was not bad, cornbread was drier than my butt french fries were okay to oil need to be changed best thing out of the whole meal was the sweet tea I would go back just for the sweet tea read more

Perfectly smoked and seasoned, the lean brisket is always my go-to here, although the pulled pork, pulled chicken, and sausage are all solid as well. A wide array of sauces are placed table side to complement, but not overpower, the natural flavor of the smoked meats. Food is always served quickly and with a smile. Great customer service and even better food...that should be every restaurant's mission, but few pull it off like Mission. read more

One of the better, ir not best bbq joints I've been to. I like the whole concept with helping soldiers. Service was friendly and fast. I ordered, ate and left within 15 minutes start to finish. Food took only a few minutes to come up. Sweet tea is delicious, fresh brewed, like you would expect at a bbq joint. Mac and cheese were not watery or out of a box, tasted fresh and home-made. The fries were fresh cut and also delicious, great to dip in their assortment of sauces. The pulled pork sandwich was flavorful and well portioned. I will definitely make this a regular stop when in Reading or York... BRING ONE TO LANCASTER! read more

My family and I enjoy Mission BBQ for a quick meal. I like the pulled pork sandwich NC style. My favorite bbq sauce is the bay-b-que- with hints of old bay. The Mac and cheese is a tasty side! I hope more of these restaurants come to our area. read more

Depending on how busy they are you may be waiting about 25 mins for your food if you just walk in to order. There are about two tables in there with a few chairs to dine in. But this is more of a takeout place in my opinion. Depending on your eating habits one platter can very well be two servings. Enjoy!

That destination was perfect for families wanting perfectly acceptable casual suburban chain-quality BBQ. It was mass produced, sauces and soups came in plastic sacks, the cattle used here weren't the GMO-free type that your granny used to eat. These are the animals juiced to the max, barely able to support their own weight, but man, what succulent ribs they have. We didn't know it at the time, but COVID was perhaps the golden age of take out ordering. Restaurants were practically giving food away, trying to get some return on the food rotting away in their pantries. Smokey Bones had some insane wing deals, like BOGO deals that fed me for a week, easy. One order I found confirmed in an old email from 2020 shows 32 bone-in wings and 32 boneless wings for $40. I mean hot damn. I like the rest of America at the time was living like a fat, gluttonous slob. Remember ordering bottles of liquor to your house back then? And you would just be signing for it in like a bathrobe. Good times. Darn shame to see this one go, not because I went regularly or because the food was particularly good, or because the service was exceptional or anything, and certainly not for the decor or music selection, wait, what was the question again? Ah right, it's a shame to see it go because it was a microcosm, it was home to people who worked there 5, 10+ years or more. There was lore. There were l, pranks, jokes, cruelty, but lifelong friendships, and even love no doubt. Also conniving backstabbing. And countless numbers of mundane, unremarkable shifts. All added up, though, it's one I'm sure all the employees can look back on and say, "That was an experience." RIP Smokey Bones and to the hopes and dreams of the entire staff that were crushed on April 28, 2026 when the doors were closed and remain closed to this day. Personally I'm hoping for a P. F. Chang's to move in, but I may be slightly biased.

I think it is disgusting that this place decorates as though it has some loyalty to our hero's and overcharges for food without providing anything to the charities they exploit. The only money they donate is the money donated by their customers. They charge an extra $2.00 for a cup and then donate that $2.00 claiming it is from their funds. There is not even donation box for the extra change in the store. When they originally opened they donated a lump sum to the "Wounded Warriors". They then got lots of free advertising from the local newspapers, news and radio stations. The donation they gave to Wounded Warriors is actually less than it would have cost them to pay for that advertising so by exploiting a need and our compassion they added to their profit margin. There is nothing wrong with a profit margin even a high one. There is no requirement for any company to donate any money to anyone. The issue is they are portraying themselves as an organization that will donate to these charities. We are going there to eat believing that some of the money we pay is going to these causes. Their food is not the issue it is that they are corporation that is comprised of liars who exploit for money. They are not donating a percentage of their profits. The only donations that they give are those that they benefit from or come from their loyal honorable customers. I have for the past 6 months told every person I meet that this company is dishonest and I will continue to broadcast that from the rooftops. If you find yourself feeling duped by them, please tell everyone you know, maybe they will do the right thing and either stop exploiting or donate to our Heros. In the meantime, do the veterans and wounded warriors a favor Go to Another restaurant and have a great meal then donate the extra money you just saved directly to the Wounded Warriors project, any armed forces veterans organization or first responders charities directly. This way more of the money goes to the charity, Mission BBQ will not be deducting their administrative fee from the $2.00 extra they charge so they can Brag that they donated at all. This is not a company that cares about Heros that actually deserve so much better they are in it for their own glory. read more

If your looking for a delicious BBQ place to go to where the food is delicious and affordable then Mission BBQ is the place for you. With amazing customer service and delicious food at a reasonable price I would reccomend eating here for an amazing bite to eat. The two staff members at the front were extremely friendly and brought my food to me at my table. They even followed up with how I was enjoying my food and if everything was fine. In general the atmosphere was great and the service was superb for a restraunt in the Wyomissing area. Just got done eating here and the food was great. We picked up our food curbside pick up and the service was excellent. We ordered from the Whitehall restaurant and had the pork BBQ sandwich combo with fries and baked beans. The pork was moist and not dry I did used the smoky mountain sauce which I like. I want to say thank you to the staff for staying open during this time, and will definitely order again.
