Porkfried rice and pizza roll
Adam L.

As I walked into the establishment the decor looked modern but at the same time it had a traditional old feel and vibe which I loved. Ordered food and sat at a table. For what i got it was $10.60 and enough to fill me. Pricing was awesome. Food looked good as well. As i tool my first bite of the rice i could tell it was freshly cooked as it was super hot! The taste left me speechless! Better than great wall! The pizza roll was also perfect as well! All in all this may be my new chinease spot! Def recommend coming here

hot and sour soup

While looking at Yelp to find new restaurants to try when in Wyomissing, I came across Fortune Cafe. Given the good reviews, we decided to give it a try. We were here on a week night for an early dinner. At that time, there was only one party dining in. However, many came to pick up take out orders. The ordering process works this way --- Head straight to the counter and an employee will take your order. The woman who helped us was friendly and efficient. We placed our order and let her know we were eating there. When the food was ready, she brought it to our table. We each got hot and sour soup. The soup had a generous amount of stock in it. However, we both noticed an undercurrent of sweetness in it which took us by surprise as we've never noticed this in hot and sour soup elsewhere. Still, it was a decent bowl of soup. For an appetizer, we ordered chicken wings which came to the table piping hot. The skin was crunchy and the meat was tender and moist. We both enjoyed them. My main course was "bean curd Szechuan style". I had been hoping that they had ma po tofu but this was the closest thing to it. The bean curd was lightly fried and the veggies in it were tender crisp. The sauce was abundant, if not very spicy (which I appreciated). Each entree comes with a bowl of white rice. My husband had "chicken with garlic sauce". He said it had white meat chicken in it. Also, he liked that the garlic flavor was prominent. I tasted some and agreed with that. He really enjoyed his meal. There is a table near the counter where one can help themselves to a cup of hot tea. Also, there was a big bowl of crispy noodles for the soup. Other condiments, plus silverware and napkins are there, too. This restaurant is in the strip shopping center at the corner of State Hill Road and Berkshire Blvd. We both enjoyed the food and my husband says that the next time we're in town, we are definitely going back for a meal!

lol mein noodles

When we first moved to the area I saw some reviews on this place and wasn't impressed so I never tried it. Yesterday my husband said he found a Carryout that looked to be good, didn't tell me the name until we arrived, so I was up for trying it. I had my reservations but I ended up being pleasantly surprised. We tried to call our order in so we wouldn't have to wait long but no one answered. After repeated unanswered calls we figured we would just go there and order in-person. When we pull up there's at least 3 people waiting outside to get in. Apparently only 1 person can go in at a time to either pick up food or order, due to COVID. They have a big sign on the door to call your order in, which is pretty weird seeing as though no one was answering the phone. My husband even tried to call while he was standing in the line outside and still no answer. After about a 10 minute wait outside, he finally got in to order. There's a table right when you walk in where they take your order (you cannot walk to the counter to order.) They told him it would be about 15 minutes so we drove home and he went back out to get the food. Here's what we ordered: -Spring Roll: surprisingly pretty spicy. I ordered it for my 4 year old and he said it was too spicy for him. I've never had a spicy spring roll before unless I put the spicy mustard on it. I also didn't like how only 1 spring roll comes in an order. -Shrimp Egg Roll: they threw this in the order for us. It was really good and I loved that there was a lot of cabbage in it. Still wish there was more than 1 in an order. -Sesame Chicken: I could appreciate how they made the chicken pieces smaller. Normally you find big chunks of breaded chicken pieces but these were smaller and easier to bite. The sauce was good, not too sweet. Just enough broccoli to eat with the dish. Good amount of chicken too. Would order again. -Lo Mein: Simple and to the point. Just what I was looking for. Didn't want any meat in it so it's just noodles and a good amount too. Would order again. -Shrimp with Vegetables: my husband said this was his favorite. I loved how it had so many vegetables in it. The flavor was good, not overwhelming and left you wanting more. -Hunan Chicken with Fried Rice: I didn't try the fried rice but the chicken was decent. Another dish with lots of vegetables. I did not like the black -Sweet Tea: I'm guessing because we stood in the long line and spent so much money that they threw in 2 of these huge teas for us. The sweet tea was good, not overly sweet. Overall I'm pleased. 4 stars because they didn't answer the phone when they have the huge sign advising too and because of the single egg roll in an order. (I need more!) If you want to try this place, probably go before 7pm on a Saturday night! They have steady business, which is good for a small shop. I'll be back!

Boneless Spare Ribs with Pork Fried Rice

Great food and very nice dining area. Counter service. Love their boneless spare ribs. Two places they have room for improvement: 1. Slowest teapot in the world. Takes over a minute to get like half a cup. 2. They keep sitting the crispy chow mein noodles (for soup) out in an uncovered bowl. They get stale.

Hot and Sour Soup

Delicious food served fresh, hot and with a smile! I ordered the Roast Pork LoMein lunch special with Hot & Sour soup and a Shrimp Roll. The food was served quick and smoking hot fresh! The hot and sour soup was deep and rich, full of flavor! The LoMein was tasty with the smoke flavor of the wok and slight ginger aroma. Plenty of pork and veggies littered throughout the LoMein. The Shrimp was was large, crispy, delicious and not greasy. Enough food for 2 people in a single lunch serving! Ill be back!

Have been getting Chicken and Snow Peas and it is enough for 2 meals. Been going for the last few years and have never been disappointed.

No white meat chicken. I immediately turned around and walked out. For me, that is suspect and a definite no-go.

Consistently good Chinese food. Great shrimp egg rolls. Good service. This is our go to spot when we want Chinese food.

One of my favorite Chinese restaurants in the area. Great Hot and Sour soup, and the best Egg Foo Young I've had in years. Recommend.

Great Wall Chinese Restaurant

The food here is always delicious and fast. I'm posting their 2026 menu. They have a very wide…read moreselection of dishes. Their spicy dishes aren't really that spicy and the American palate can handle them - that isn't a critique at all. If they could make the spicy dishes spicy like sichuan dishes most people in the area could not handle it, needless to say I'm a return customer and will continue frequenting them. They are great!

With how close Great Wall is to me, it's a bit surprising I don't eat here on a weekly basis. I…read moresuppose it's the health-conscious, more mature me making that decision. As it stands, I eat here maybe twice a year? But when I do, the experience is magical. Absence, as they say, makes the girth of my waist grow fatter and my physical features exceedingly grotesque. This place has just been so damn deliciously consistent. While Tokyo Hibachi and Zhuang's Garden have seen their quality steadily nosedive, Great Wall tastes just as good now as it did the first time I tried it all those years ago. The hot & sour soup is head and shoulders above any other Chinese restaurants' offerings in a 10 mile radius. Now even though I live a few blocks away, I'd drive, well, 10 miles just to have this soup. It has that perfect gloopy, almost gelatinous consistency. This is a gross comparison, but it's almost mucousy? But super flavorful mucous with secret Chinese spices, like MSG. It's so thick, in fact, that you can use it as an impromptu sauce on white rice or lo mein. Perhaps even mei fun if you're feeling adventurous. Great Wall one of the growing number of Chinese restaurants to move away from those foldable white cardboard containers. You know, the ones that everyone eats out of in movies when they're working late at the office. It's so welcome to see those rectangular plastic containers that stack easier and - perhaps most importantly - are microwave safe. Ever put one of those old containers in the microwave, forgetting they have that thin metal handle and nearly explode your microwave and burn the house down? Yeah, not ideal. I have to emphasize the lo mein, a fan favorite. There's something that sets it apart, and I think it's a hint of sautéed garlic. Also they fry off the noodles a bit more, allowing them to absorb all the flavor from the wok. Nothing's worse than bland lo mein. I can't even order it at some places anymore because it's my favorite and they've nearly ruined it for me. Luckily Great Wall has restored my faith. My other go-tos are the moo goo gai pan (a relatively healthy chicken & vegetable dish) and Szechuan chicken (when I want some extra spice). Parking can be tricky since it's right on Penn Ave. West Reading is pretty much back in full gear, so street parking fills up fast, especially in the evenings. The greedy owners of the parking lot across the street would rather have spots go to waste than let people park there and enjoy the downtown atmosphere (unless they pay premium for a parking pass, that is). Fortunately I have never run into any rudeness from the employees. Perhaps it's due to the Asian connection. Even though I'm super American, sometimes I pretend to struggle with the English language so the staff of Chinese restaurants accept me as their own. Hey, it's a dog eat dog world, and you gotta take any advantage you can get to make it out alive.
