I want to thank all the staff and Doctors in the heart tower. Everyone has been great and very caring during my two stays.

I got here Thursday morning to do a preOp for leg burns I caused in a kitchen accident. I burned my left knee cap, left front and posterior thigh and a few spots on right knee. Got my left palm and on top of my wrist also. It's now Saturday morning and Theyre going to hold me until Monday. Everyone here has been really nice. Brandon and Evelyn (I think) are my Physical Therapists. They've been by a few times. They helped me to get up on my feet to use the restroom for the first time. The nurses Cynthia and Chris have been great. Chris helped change out my bandages with Dr Schurr today and came back and changed out my right knee bandages and got me back into compression socks again. Cyndi helped me get back into the restroom last night and Lana has been so helpful every day. Lana comes in and tries to make my life better. I appreciate her kindness. The girl that cleans my room each day is so sweet . She asks me each day if there's anything she can do to make my room even better. The girls they come and take my blood on the middle of the night are always fast, friendly , and they are in and out. They find the vein and do their thing so professionally. The girls and guys that bring me breakfast, lunch , and dinner are very efficient at getting you your meals and the meals are so delicious. Just the right amount of food. They bring Milk, OJ, Sweet Tea, Ensure drinks , Fruit. Fruit cups, Jello. Yeah,, everyone has to have jello when You're resting after surgery. After dinner, you can ask for a Crusteez Peanut butter / Jelly sandwich, Turkey sandwich , Jello Pudding, Chicken Soup, Turkey soup , crackers and other items. The room is beautiful. 55" LG TV w Directv , beautiful view of the N. Carolina mountains with an electric window shade , couch w bed , recliner, and the bathroom comes equipped with full Walk-in Shower, 1' by 2' porcelain tile, , backlit bathroom mirror. Modern wood cabinets. Backlit lighting, and your bed remote can control ceiling lights and a spotlight above the bed. This is a very well designed Hospital that actually looks like a Hotel to me. When you check in there's free Valet in front and you enter to the front desk and they get your ID and medical cards and you can sit in their waiting lounge where there are different types of chairs from chairs , sofas, recliners and a girl came quickly and found me. She had me follow her to the check-in for a Pre-Operation. They take you to your own room and you get to undress and change into their operation clothes You get wheeled on a bed into the Operating Room where the Anastegialogist has you breath into a mask until you're in LA LA LAND !!!! read more

PLEASE READ-MEDICATION ERROR Mission at fault but no care after the error I visited Mission Hospital on November 11, 2025 for food poisoning and was treated in the ER by Dr. Sanchez and several nurses. I initially only agreed to receive Zofran, but Dr. Sanchez strongly encouraged me to take Bentyl and Reglan as well. I repeatedly declined, but after continued pressure, I finally agreed. Dr. Sanchez told me the Bentyl would be given as a shot in my thigh. When the nurse came in, she told me she needed to place a new IV and that both medications would be administered through the IV. I explained that Dr. Sanchez specifically said the Bentyl would be a shot, but the nurse reassured me she had "done this thousands of times" and insisted it was given IV. The moment she administered it, I lost my vision. She dismissed it as anxiety. I was discharged shortly after, but I vomited the entire way home and was so ill that I couldn't get out of bed. That night, I ended up in my local ER due to severe pain. There, I was informed that Bentyl is not supposed to be administered through an IV. My arm was swollen significantly at the IV site, so they performed an ultrasound and found a blood clot. I immediately had to start blood thinners. I was devastated. I called Mission to report what happened, and all I was told was, "sorry." I later had to see a hematologist, who confirmed the clot was caused by the improper administration of the medication ,chemical phlebitis. I contacted Patient Risk repeatedly. After several attempts, I finally heard from Heather, who told me it would be months before anyone could review my case. Meanwhile, I had already spent thousands of dollars on medical bills, missed a week of work, was placed on lifelong blood thinners that my insurance does not cover, and needed therapy due to the trauma. When I asked to speak to her supervisor, Jaime was much more empathetic but ultimately told me my claim was denied because I "did not have permanent physical damage." This blood clot has completely changed my life. I do not feel like the same person I was before all of this, and yet no one at Mission Hospital has been held accountable. The negligence was preventable, the dismissal afterward was painful, and the lack of accountability has been devastating for me and my family. I strongly believe people need to advocate for themselves when seeking care at Mission. I'm considering sharing my story with the local news, because the public deserves to know how easily a mistake like this can happen and how little support patients receive afterward. I do not blame Dr.Sanchez but the nurse who manually ignored multiple warnings before she administered my mediation. I want to share my story so that others know if your hospital makes a mistake, you will not receive proper care and the nurse and hospital will have no repercussions. read more

Hello my name is David Knoll. On Friday March 6th 2026 I was hospitalized at the mission hospital. They performed a surgery to install a pacemaker. On the day of the surgery they took me down to a storage room. There was a surgery table that looked like a long thin cot. There was a box of supplies on the Left end of it. They removed the box of supplies and put it on the metal shelves right next to the surgery cart. Then they rolled me up on my side and put a white inflatable thing underneath me. They inflated that in moved me over to the surgery table right next to the metal storage shelves. Then they put me under and perform the surgery. I woke up back in my room. When they close the wound they did not close it all the way before they glued it shut. And when they discharged me the next day they did not give me any antibiotics to take home. Or any other medications to take home. The one good thing was the nurses treated me like a king. Their service was up and well avove normal. I'm not writing this review out of hatred. I'm only doing it because people who go to this hospital need to know what might happen if they need a pacemaker put in. I gave it a two-star rating because the nursing staff was extremely exceptional. read more

When Mission/ Care Partners failed us in the worst way just before my dad's death (over the phone: "we're discharging him to home hospice but don't have anyone who can set him up and train you for his care at home"), Four Seasons Hospice based in Flat Rock NC stepped in at the last minute when I called them and explained how desperate for help we were. Mom and I couldn't have managed without Four Seasons, and I'm so grateful. Mission/ HCA and Care Partners need to do better by the community, but we know that already from all the Immediate Jeopardy citations. My husband had surgery yesterday and spent last night. We have nothing but good things to say about Mission Hospital. Dr. Burns and his team were amazing. Everyone from the Valet parking crew to the surgical floor staff were professional and caring. The facilities were well maintained. We had reservations due to media reports, but were pleasantly surprised. read more

I had an emergency which was a result from a concussion I gave myself for Christmas I was trying to be good and went to the hotel gym... The staff were dedicated, efficient, knowledgeable and caring. They were under-staffed and working through breaks and there were No complaints. I know because I saw how busy it was and asked about breaks. My test results all came back quickly and I left with the knowledge that I didn't have internal bleeding, and the best way to be with the concussion, which was rest and ease. I chose Mission Hospital as a traveler even though it only has 2 stars. There was something about the positive reviews that drew me. 90% of my work is donation based and I haven't seen the bill yet. I'm worried and I'm very grateful for my experience. I saw a cartoon this morning comparing our corporate healthcare system to France. It's possible to not go into debt to get care. I hope I will live to see the day when that is a reality for us like in all of Europe, Canada and all the places where human health is a right not a luxury. read more

Last week I had to put my parents at mission because of flu and pneumonia. It was a very bad situation And this was happening all at once with me. The staff was on top of everything. And never quit, and they made everything easy for me.Because I had two emergencies going on at once and it was life threatening for both of my parents especially my mom and she was going downhill quick. The entire staff went out of their way for both my parents as well as myself.Any question, I had any information, you name it.It was right there. I'm gonna tell everybody that's reading this they saved my parents' life and gave me the greatest gift for christmas That anybody could ever ask for and my parents is home. If it was not for them, my parents would not be here. And I would not have a Christmas with them. I wish I knew the words to say. But thank you from the bottom of my heart. read more

Joanna's son had a heart attack and ended up in Mission Hospital for a triple bypass. His surgery went well and his post surgical recovery is going well. Service in hospitals is always better if patients have family to visit and advocate for them, which we have been doing. I want to especially mention CNA Jean. She took his temperature and checked his blood sugar levels. She also helped him to get up and walk, which he was eager to do because he was tired of lying in bed. She also helped him brush his teeth. She explained the steps to help him get up for a walk calmly and clearly. She was kind and she provided compassionate and professional health care. This place is a roach motel. You check in but you never check out. This dump is so understaffed it's beyond a joke. I wouldn't have been surprised to see a tumbleweed blow across the hallway. If you're having an actual emergency do not come here, it isn't safe. read more

I have had several experiences with this hospital. These range from my granddaughter's prenatal admission (she caught Covid in the hospital) to visiting with friends (avoid weekends if you are unable to walk a long distance). The hospital facilities vary greatly in age and quality and that matters - many of the patient areas are inadequately ventilated. The medical and nursing staff are probably generally overwhelmed; I am told that professional staff members have left to work at Advent and other facilities. Physicians don't always put patients first and seem preferentially to transfer critical patients to HCA hospitals, such as Charlotte, rather than to the best for the patient's treatment. I also have observed poor patient relations, poor policy and procedures observance and poor patient care by the nursing staff. Perhaps this is the best hospital Asheville can hope for. I hope that it isn't. read more

The parking at this facility is an absolute disgrace. As if visiting sick and dying friends isn't hellish enough you can plan on spending up to at least half an hour or more driving around this maze trying to find a parking spot. The gate wouldn't open in one of the mini parking "lots" and the woman ahead of me had to back up her large SUV and repeatedly approach the damn gate to get it to sense her existence there and open. Not an easy feet since there were numerous people lined up behind her (with no place to go) who were also looking for a parking spot. I started to get out of my car to life the damn gate open myself when it finally opened. So no parking and complete crap for equipment. Why is there even a gate there? It's a free parking lot if you can find a spot so it's not like you have to pay to exit. Get a satellite parking lot and run a shuttle. In lieu of that people park your car in a shopping center and call an Uber to get you to the hospital. I repeat again a total disgrace. PS I also called the parking assistance number listed on the website. That number no longer belongs to that department. The woman there gave me another number which turned out to be for the IT department of the hospital. I called her back and was given another number for parking assistance questions. Nobody answered that phone number. What a cluster! read more

Since my last review I did have surgery June 30th of 2022. My Dr was excellent with no problems. I had to spend a couple of nights. This review is for the hospital. I have to say everyone was very nice, professional and friendly. I have no complaints at all about my stay except only good to say, it was nice to have everyone who came in the room treat you good. I feel like they gave me the best care they could even though I heard they were short staffed. Everyone did good. (I am seeing another new Dr. Through Mission and maybe having Surgery again for something completely different. I will update again soon.) read more

We were in the ER this evening for 4 hours for one single dose of medication. My daughter is pregnant and wasn't feeling well and they let her sit there for hours. They actually put her information under someone else's and that's why it took so long. Please hire competent people and more of them. She was so friendly, I briefly considered inviting her to family gatherings. CT Scans & Radiology - The VIP Treatment Jim from transport took me to CT Scan, where Darren (?) turned a potentially nerve-wracking test into "Fun With Expensive Machines." Then Heather and Michele in Interventional Radiology did the impossible--made the awkwardness of groin shaving seem dignified. I left prep feeling like we should all meet for coffee later. Doctors, Miracles & Minimal Pain Meds Faith checked on me all day like a guardian angel. At night, Megan brought heated wipes and a "spa experience"--but make it hospital. Then came Dr. Trever Downing, a fellow South African and pulmonary wizard, who extracted a truckload of deadly embolisms from my lungs while I--somehow--drifted off mid-procedure. Now that's talent. Room A563 - Where VIPs Recover My nurse, Rex, made me feel less like a patient and more like an old friend he was looking out for. At Ultrasound, Jasmine Castellanos was so kind and inspiring that I left wanting to be a better human. The Infinite Soda Package Hospital food was hit or miss, but Mission's soda service? 10/10. They kept delivering my sugar-free drink of choice like I was royalty. Word got out, and soon various staff members were personally ensuring my hydration needs were met. Jennifer from Nutrition made meal deliveries feel like a home-cooked meal delivered by a friend. Just When I Thought I Was Done... By Day Three, I was waiting for someone to drop the ball--but they never did. Brandon from Nutrition swooped in like a happy whirlwind to grab my food tray. Jenny from OT led a "field trip" down the corridor, full of laughs. Tanya from Patient Discharge brought a vibe so fun, even my bad jokes landed well. Then--plot twist! Cardio ultrasound was back on, because Mission refuses to leave stones unturned. Tracy, the cardio imaging specialist, showed up with a NASA-level computer setup. One glance and I knew--this was going to be my most expensive date yet. Riley, the liveliest CNA ever, turned oxygen tests into a comedy tour. Discharge (But Can I Take the Staff Home?) Finally, Dr. Greenwood took the time to talk, listen, and empower me. Jennifer from Nutrition ensured my last meal was just as great as the first. Courtney, the RN, pushed her computer cart in with a smile, knowledge, and appropriate awe at my embolism photo. Then, after all the paperwork and goodbyes, Riley wheeled me out, regaling me with life stories and fishing tips, until we burst into the sunshine. Final Thoughts: 10/10, Would Remove Blood Clots Here Again I know healthcare gets a bad rap, but Mission? They nailed it. Just got out of this hospital on August 17, 2025. Had a double mastectomy in April at this hospital and the staff, level of care and accomodations were incredible. Only stayed one night at that time. This last visit was for Nissen fundoplication surgery and I had complications, not from surgery, but my high blood pressure and low platelets due to my condition. My surgeon and his team were incredible, the very best. I could ask for no better care. The hospital, staff, accomodations were beyond what I expected. I cannot say enough nice things about this hospital and staff. I'm in Bryson City and will travel to this particular hospital for ANY procedure. I am so impressed and I'm not easily impressed, especially when I'm not feeling well. read more

Mission used to be the best hospital in WNC, a place where you could trust that everything would be taken care of. Now, it feels like nothing gets done. There is zero communication between departments, nurses, providers, and patients. While I am deeply grateful that my son received excellent surgical care following a trauma, everything that happened afterward was awful. As a nurse for the system, I was shocked and heartbroken by the breakdown in patient care. It took two whole days to get a CTA scan done that revealed a PE, and another two days before we could get an Echo cardiogram. This is not just poor care; this is delayed care that can lead to sentinel events. I asked to speak with management, who eventually came but could not give us any answers to why the delay or when things would happen, it kept being passed up the chain of leadership, leaving my son and our family emotional and mentally drained. Our transfer to rehab was delayed twice because tests could not be performed in a timely manner. The nurses, providers, and support staff were all wonderful. They did their best with what they had, but they didn't have the basic equipment or support to ensure they could provide timely and efficient care to patients. The problem isn't the staff; it's the system that prioritizes profit over people. This experience has left me feeling frustrated and disheartened. I hope that by sharing my story, it will bring attention to these critical issues and lead to much-needed changes. My son deserved better, and so does every patient who walks through those doors. read more

My son who had stopped taking his medication for schizophrenia, needed emergency care. Instead of helping him they discharged him since he was not a danger to himself or others. Thankfully I was able to convince him later that afternoon to go with me to Pardee Hospital in Hendersonville, which turned out to be a blessing. They are providing him with excellent care. Staff was in the room laughing and talking about their own personal life as I lay there in horrible abdominal pain. Saw the doctor once never again never said anything to me about what could be wrong. 1 hour later nurse came in and told me that I was being discharged. Sent me away on foot never offered me a wheel chair even tho I could hardly walk because of the meds they gave. When I got to the front they tried to denie me using the phone so I could call some one to come get me. What a horrible place. read more

I was concerned about going to Mission Hospital for a procedure because of bad PR. I was pleasantly surprised by my experience. My procedure team led by Dr. Amy Alexander and the nursing staff that took care of me overnight were topnotch. Everyone was more than competent, friendly, and good at their jobs. I had back/spine surgery at Mission Hospital last Thursday, and have absolutely nothing but great things to say about everyone I encountered from the gentleman at the front door who checked me in to the nurse who wheeled me out, to include all the technicians, doctors/surgeon, nurses, anesthesiologists...EVERYONE was great! Everything medically seemed to go right on schedule and smoothly! I would highly recommend my surgeon (Dr. Steenland) and Mission Hospital. I almost forgot about the pre op lab nurse and technician who were both fabulous! read more

For the second time in 3 years, my husband has needed a cardiac procedure. Both times he received excellent care from his surgeon, Dr. Rhyner, the pre/post op care team as well as those on the cardiac care unit. If I could have given a 0, I would have. I beg you, IF at all possible, please do not take your elderly parents to Mission/HCA Hospital. If there is no other option and you must take them there, do NOT leave them. My mother went in for a dizzy spell that she had for at least two days. My mother had no problems with her memory and was capable of taking care of herself. I chose one night to go home to rest and come back the next morning to find my mother confused and unable to walk on her own. I questioned the doctor and he dismissed my concerns. i Iet the nurse know of my concerns and that i wanted a neurologist to check my mother because she was not like this when she came to Mission/HCA. Later that day the neurologist came in and stated that several things were incorrect in my mother's chart and were even signed off on even though the information concerning her test was incorrect. i again told the doctor that something is not right, and I wanted him to listen to my mother and he finally did, asking her where she was my mother didi not know, he asked her several other questions and my mother just rambled. The doctor looked at me and said i think its because she is in the hospital which was rediculas. This is not all to this story. I beg you to NOT leave your elderly parent's alone at this hospital. read more

Wow this hospital sucks. A single x ray was over $400. They send one email once- no paper mail. They do not give you a breakdown of your bill and if you call to ask they will request to send one and it can take up to 30 days to get to you and they can give you no information on the phone. What hospital sends you a bill with no breakdown and tells you if you do not pay on time it can go to collections but when you want a clear breakdown of the charges you have to wait a month to receive something in the mail. Shady hospital- will never use them again. Also they are in the news right now in big trouble and may lose their federal funding due to numerous incidents and failures- so sounds like a great hospital to stay away from read more

Great to have a Hosptial that hired professional doctors nurses etc! My dad got sick with COVID last summer and got admitted to hospital. The doctors and nurses took such a good care of our dad while we couldn't visit him, we passed a couple packages to him (snacks books notebooks etc, so he would have something to eat/read/write) and we have a lot of siblings and each of wanted to call ourselves and hear any good news.. (We all called multiple times and were scared not to waste their time, but they were so professional and sometimes even called us to let us know our Dad was progressing well) I must say thank you to the doctors and nurses and especially to God for blessings Doctors and nurses hands that helped our dad recover from the COVID.. Also wanted to add in I had 3 babies delivered at this hospital and I must say! I'm so glad I got admitted to Mission Hospital and not another hospital that was locally to me with the 3rd baby. I'm always so happy to stay at the hospital, the food was good and the nurses were so patient and took such a good care of me and my babies. read more

I had total knee replacement on 3/27/25 by Dr Landon Hall. This was the biggest mistake of my life. My leg is worse than before surgery. I am on multiple depression meds, sleep meds, have constant pain, muscle spasms and can't bend my knee (which I could before surgery). surgeon called me at home the day after surgery asking me why I left. I was discharged and sent home! No communication. Extra things added to my bill (request an itemized bill and check it closely). Will definitely travel elsewhere for medical care. read more

They left my 70 yr old Mother, with the same day hip surgery patient, wait too long to use the bathroom and she soiled herself! What a horrible hospital system from the side of management! Scheduling appts is done remotely by who knows who or where. I have now twice had tests scheduled for Wrong tests. You can not reach anyone to straighten this out. They claim you are being transferred to your specialists nurse. You are not. You get a person who claims to be the nurse, but they are not. They cannot help in my case, they argue with you, are rude to you (Terry), will not transfer you to anyone and say someone will call you back but do not. I had the best ER experience I've ever had here. I was triaged and taken in right away for what I thought was not a major issue. Everybody there was so friendly to me. The lady, I believe her name was Kim gave me a ride in the wheelchair. It was such a far walk that I am so grateful she did bring it. She was so so friendly, and helped put me at ease, as I have a great fear of hospitals. The CRX lady (didn't catch her name) was equally nice. She was quick and friendly. The one that stuck in my mind was Liz. She introduced herself. As she drew blood, she talked to me and was just so nice. She asked when my surgery was and said she would say a prayer for me.
