I found out at 4:22pm that the tile my designer friend gifted me for my bathroom renovation project was going to run short. I needed 3-5 tiles within 2 days or my bathroom floor would be missing tile by the toilet... and I immediately jumped on Yelp and called ALL of the tile options. Alexis answered my call minutes before 5pm and got back to me with an option, and it might even be available for a local pick-up from the vendor! This was a custom Spanish tile that cost over $100 for a box, and there was 1 box that she procured for me within minutes of the vendors opening hour! I picked it up that afternoon for my installer to have the next day. It was absolutely magical and the most amazing experience I have ever had with anything on this project. Anyone that has lived through a renovation knows that things go wrong all the time, but this experience and Alexis' professionalism, accountability, and abilities are bar none the best! Going into the store is like walking into a candy shop. You want everything. We own a Spanish Revival house so we have specific design needs when it comes to tiles. I think your experience can greatly vary depending on who assists you. We had someone assisting us that seemed to not want to deal with us at all. Several of the existing tiles on the floor were apparently no longer being made (so why still have them on the floor?), the store stopped doing custom tiles with specific colors (which sadly were the exact colors we were looking for). We finally ordered custom tiles, which cost a lot of money and took some time to deliver. We ended up not liking how they looked so we put them elsewhere on the property. The overall experience was so poor that even though Mission Tile West is *THE* place to go for stunning tiles for your special project, but try to pair up with recommended service people from other reviews here. read more

My husband and I spent a few hours with Robert who went through every option, and patiently explored more options while adding whimsical options at the very end with tiles that represented our dog into our bathroom concept. I stopped by last week hoping to look at tile options, but my experience at the front desk made me go elsewhere. I am not someone who writes reviews ever but felt that writing this one was necessary. The front desk employee greeted me in a frantic, almost dismissive way, immediately asking if I had an appointment and telling me they require one despite the fact that the store was completely empty. As a paying customer, I expect professionalism and basic courtesy. Instead, I felt unwelcome and rushed out the door. What stood out even more was that the employee spoke to me in an exaggerated Hispanic accent, even though I do not speak with one myself. It felt unnecessary and uncomfortable If there's a genuine policy about appointments, it could be communicated politely and without assumptions. read more

On Thursday around noon, I walked in expecting to make a purchase. Instead, I was stereotyped and made extremely uncomfortable. The front desk associate, Olivia, assumed I spoke Spanish based solely on my appearance and addressed me in broken Spanglish with a fake accent. I do not speak Spanish. This was extremely inappropriate and unprofessional. I was then asked if I had an appointment. When I said no, her tone shifted to annoyance and I was told they "recommend" appointments and that they "can't offer assistance" because salespeople were busy. While the website states "request an appointment for the best service possible," it does not state that walk-in customers will be dismissed or denied basic assistance. Another public review describes the same stereotyping and fake-accent behavior, indicating this is a repeated pattern -- not a misunderstanding or a one-time interaction. Management has responded to that review, which confirms they are aware of the issue and have allowed it to continue. I entered prepared to make a purchase and left without assistance. Respectful treatment should not depend on how a customer looks or whether they scheduled an appointment. Spend your money elsewhere. read more

We worked with Marisa at MTW on selecting and ordering tile for our full home renovation last year. We made an appointment at the showroom (which I believe they strongly recommend/require) and brought all of our designs, sketches, inspiration swipes, etc. to our appointment, and set out to buy tile for two bathrooms, kitchen backsplash, and our laundry room floor. Marisa helped us pick everything and was very prompt getting us quotes and working with us on different options depending on our price needs. We were able to place our order within a week or two of meeting with her and received everything about 2-3 months later. (give yourself time to get your orders received!) Overall, it was a VERY positive experience! Marisa was even available to answer a couple random/quick questions after we received all of our tile, and always conducted herself with the utmost promptness and professionalism. I wanted to recreate a rug tile with similar feel and look as the one in the Adamson house modifying one already in their catalog. She was highly informative, professional, patient and accommodating. We re-did our 1920's master SHOWER ONLY, in an attempt to preserve all the surrounding original tile. Alexis at MTW was extremely helpful to us in selecting a match and guiding us through our rough idea of our vision for the re-model. Looking for marble and tile for my bathroom, and was referred to this place. Wow, do they have tile! The store goes through about 4 rooms, and each of the rooms is covered in different tiles on the walls, and different stone, etc., on the floors. The displays are a little overwhelming. Better go with someone who knows how to put it all together. They are very friendly and helpful. They also have a small marble/granite yard outside. I found some marble that I really liked, but it was VERY expensive. The tiles are more reasonable, and they have every type of tile you could ever want, at every type of price. Fun visiting this store, and the neighborhood is great... lots of boutique stores and many, many funky and artistic places to grab a coffee or a meal. So. Pasadena, you rock! read more

I'm remodeling my kitchen. I've been looking for a backsplash tile literally since before Halloween. 5 months! I couldn't find anything I liked or that my husband and I agreed on. I had a tile picked out but then the cabinets were installed and the color didn't quite go. Too green. I went into Mission West Tile yesterday and was helped by Andie. Tom was really nice and helpful when I scheduled an appointment but then did not respond to two emails to follow up. I called and Vanessa said they were having trouble with their internet provider and that my emails went to their junk mail. I don't understand this excuse because if you know you're having trouble with the internet, wouldn't you look in the junk mail? Or somehow follow up with your customers? Tom distinctly told me the best way to communicate was through email, so this is a bit perplexing. When I followed up with a phone call I spoke with Vanessa and was really rushed off the phone (I'm sure they are busy) and she told me to just email what I was looking for. So we are in the beginning stages of having our kitchen remodeled and decided to make the drive from Rancho Cucamonga to this place to find some unique tiles for the backsplash. The place has a lot to look through and choose from but it made me feel overwhelmed with so much to dig through. We met with one sales lady after checking in and she gave us 2 binders of folders to look through. I didn't drive all that way to look at photos in a binder, i would have like some direction to where to find the colors of tiles we are thinking of. After wandering around we found a couple that we liked and found another sales lady and asked her to give us the prices on them and time line for how long it would take to ger them. While she was working on those 2, my husband found another one that we really liked that we also wanted to get a quote on. She just said, "oh those are really expensive ".....excuse me? Did we ask her if she thought we could afford them? NO! So what the heck kind of response was that! I told her i don't care what the price is, we want a quote for them. Geesh lady! After that treatment we won't bother spending our $$$ there. I also don't like that they can't give you a real time frame as to how long it would take to get them unless you placed an order. Although there are some beautiful and unique tiles at Mission Tile West in South Pasadena, the shopping experience leaves much to be desired. It was a favorite tile store fifteen years ago, unfortunately, it has changed considerably. Today, I had an appointment with Heather. I experienced the worst customer service with her than any other person in recent memory. Not only did she fail to have a command of knowledge about the product in the store, she failed to listen to the description of what I was seeking. Moreover, her overall attitude was rude, haughty, and condescending. From the initial introduction to her attempt to sell an undesired product, she acted as if she was speaking to an imbecile. Her demeanor was deplorable. Truly, even if I had found the tile I was looking for at Mission Tile West, I would have insisted that someone else write the sale, or I would have left the store without making a purchase. I wanted an authentic "retro" pink and black tile bathroom and did a lot of research. Mission Tile West is the only place that still makes the decorative liner tiles that give so much character to the overall look of the project. Alexis at their Pasadena location spent the time with me on the phone to get the feel for what I wanted, sent samples, and guided me through selecting the right design details and accent colors to make my new bathroom perfectly mine. Alexis designed every detail based on the measurements provided by my contractor, sent me renderings, and calculated precisely how much of each type of tile I needed for installation - and she nailed it! So I'm finishing up a bathroom remodel. And I wanted color accent tiles in the floor to add personality to a gray tile door. I walked in and did not have an appointment . I asked if I could buy loose tiles and was met by Andy. First off, She was fearful to get close to me but she was wearing a mask that did not cover her nose?? I had my mask on properly and had a temperature check prior to meeting Andy. Then she told me I can look upfront near the gate for loose tiles and that's all they had. She told me everything is on order and followed me outside . She told me she didn't understand what I was trying to do.. so I tried to show her a picture of my floors and again she backed away as if I have active corona. Then discouraged me from doing this . It didn't make sense to her because she's an interior designer and don't recommend this. I don't understand why Mission Tile would hire her if she's afraid of public interaction even after I had my temp check and am wearing a mask that covers my nose and mouth. She was not friendly, she was dismissive and unsupportive. She made me feel dumb and unnecessary. Andy... go back and figure out how to deal with customers. Even though I'm not your big ticket item... I may be a future customer and have lots of friends that will remodel their houses. I would NEVER recommend seeing Andy. I am a long time South Pasadena resident and would not look anywhere else for tile, but Mission Tile West. I recently did a bathroom remodel in a 1916 English Revival home. My challenge was to stay true to the time period and preserve some of the existing tile. Tom and George were extremely knowledgeable of the architecture and the assortment of tiles that would make sense for this period; this proved to be extremely helpful due to the vast assortment of tile they have in their showroom. We were able to narrow our search to a few options and after bringing the samples home, I was able to make a quick decision. I could not recommend a better store, Thank you! read more

I see that there are terrific reviews for Tom, he is a nice guy and was helpful, however he gave me a tile price and when I returned to purchase the tile and was handing over my credit card he said "oops" I quoted the wrong price it's going to cost $2000 more. Oops? I spent a few hours and choose another tile with a little longer delivery date-I asked Tom if there was any way to have it on the shorter side of the estimate. He never promised but my feeling is that the second he made the sale that was that. My incomplete order was ready for pick up 3 days following the longest possible delivery date-that was 2 weeks ago and now my incomplete order is not ready. Way to provide customer service Mission Tile West. If you have any time or budget constraint and don't want to be disappointed when you go to pay and find out "oops" its 2000. more don't shop here. I agree with other reviewers that service is TERRIBLE. Our original order went fine, and our tile guy started the installation. We ran short of materials for two items, so requested an add-on order. That's where poor service began. No response to the request. I had to reach out numerous times to ask for status. Finally, we received a shipment. We were shipped the wrong size bull-nose tile. A month ago we asked for the correct size to be shipped. We had to aggressively follow-up to ask for status. A month after our order, my husband called them non-stop every 10 minutes until he got an answer. We finally got an answer that our shipment was scheduled to be delivered the next week. Needless to say, the shipment never arrived, nor did we get a call from Mission Tile to explain that there would be a delay. All we want is the proactive updates and the truth (e.g., delayed for X weeks), so that our general contractor and tile subcontractor can bake that into our schedule. Lack of communication is what I'm upset about. read more

We worked with Heather Wu to design five medallions for an addition to our 1930's Spanish Colonial Revival style home. We were a little intimidated at first by the huge range of line drawings and colors to choose from, but Heather provided good advice and the designs came together. The tiles came when promised. Two arrived broken or cracked, and these were replaced quickly so that the project was not impacted. The outcome is fantastic. read more

Small and cramped spaces. No thanks to the lousy service - it should not matter whether one has an appointment or not, a designer or not, or whether one knows what she wants or not. Drove out here from calabasas today with by 6mo old. I walk in and see about 5-6 people at the desk. Not one of them said hello. I said hi- no response. Then I proceed to walk down the hall to the right. A woman asked if I needed help- and I said no, just looking now and I'll probably be on my way out because no one said hello when I walked in. She said sorry. I have this feeling this happens frequently here. I have to tile two bathrooms and a kitchen. When the first experience with customer service is plain bad, that will give you an idea of the rest of the project with them will be. Oh well, I'll look elsewhere. read more
