I went to MIST for a custom setting for a loose diamond I bought separately. A bit about the design process (~4-5 weeks): 1. Emailed pictures/sketches of custom setting and received quote. 2. Confirmed quote was acceptable and charged half the quoted amount. 3. Received preliminary renders and drawings for the actual design. I commented on these and got revised drawings. 4. MIST printed out a 3D mold so I could see how the ring would look like. 5. I gave the thumbs up and the ring was sent for fabrication. This took about 1.5 weeks. 6. Received the completed ring with box. Overall, Minnie and Stan were very attentive and engaged with me throughout the project. Mist Fine Jewelry was a real life saver and truly delivered on the engagement ring setting that I thought was a lost cause. I came to this shop after cancelling order on a really poor custom design engagement ring experience at a different shop that I will not name here. Given that they are not yet actively marketing themselves, I am compelled to put them on the radar of anyone looking for a solid shop to get any custom engagement ring done. Minnie and Stan are extremely patient in understanding the exact requirements to the custom design I had in mind and had very insightful feedback on how to improve on the setting. There were no aggressive sales pitches and the pricing structure for each step of the custom made setting was very reasonable, no crazy deposits and penalties for not moving forward with a CAD model. They were also proactive in soliciting my thoughts on each iteration and employed a very competent CAD designer and manufacturer to do the job. For the first time I felt that the jewelry store and their designer really internalized the ideas I had and elevated them to the next level. Given the timeline I gave them, Stan did a great job pushing the designers to deliver on a tight timespan and was super responsive to any questions I had over email. The final engagement ring design was beyond my expectations and my fiance picked up on all the cool details added in :) Another thing worth noting was that I found a better stone elsewhere after having first put down deposit on a diamond at Mist Jewelry, but Stan was extremely understanding about the situation and was very easy to work with on cancelling the deposit / moving the deposit to pay for the setting instead. A mountain of thanks to Mimi and Stan for saving our sanity. To understand how wonderful they are, I need to tell you about their competition. My girlfriend saw my proposal long before I bent on one knee, but I still wanted some surprise factor when I put a ring on her hand, so I used her departed grandmother's ring to watch over her until we found the ring of our dreams. We wanted something both beautiful and representative of our ethical values. Her grandmother's ring is wonderful, but the ginormous diamond tore through clothing and filled my fiancé with worry every time we stepped outside of the house. It just wasn't a ring that was right for our active life or our attitudes on jewelry, so we immediately began the search for something simple and elegant, a ring that suited us. Something that didn't ruin her outfits and didn't scream insecurity (or anything else for that matter). We decided, after quite a bit of research, that we wanted a less flashy smaller center stone, to be set lower. We decided on something different than a diamond. We decided on moissanite. They even stooped so low as to prey on insecurities - what will other women think? Is your future wife only worth a "cheap" stone? A dozen salespersons told us that we were doing everything wrong, and that I didn't know what my soulmate wants. Worse, they told my fiancé that she did not know what she wanted. I felt the constant pressure to get us to buy the most expensive option. The process left my fiancé in frustrated tears. We were almost ready chalk up the whole experience the entire industry being evil. Fortunately, we were wrong. On a suggestion from a lifelong friend, we visited Mist. Mimi and Stan were the first and only ones to hear us. At our first meeting with Mimi she took to heart that we wanted something smaller and better in sync with our tastes and lives. She presented options and didn't pressure us into unwanted decisions. She and Stan warned us of the roadblocks and navigated us around them. Then, when they didn't have EXACTLY what we wanted, she sat down with us and designed a whole new ring with us, incorporating design elements we loved while helping us over each hurdle. The ring is perfect, tasteful and intricate without being insubstantial. It is unique, just like my wife. When the sun catches it, it throws a happy little rainbow of sparkles.
