Studio was dirty beyond belief. Had no gear you couldn't find in some kids basement with an engineer who knew even less. It's no wonder their turn over rate for engineers is so high read more

I've been to quite a few studios around Detroit and I could never find good recording engineers until going to Mix Factory! The one guy DDT (or DTE - I forget) was quick, and made me sound like a star. Good place to record! read more

I bought an 8 hour recording block and only used 2 hours. Since I never went back I asked if I could just get the rest of my money back for the unused time. They refused to refund my money! So I made a counter offer, instead of getting the money back for 6 unused hours that were paid for, I tried to get that replaced with just ONE song being mixed and mastered and they refused that as well! I'd recommend looking around for a different studio before investing your money here. read more

There isn't much else around this part of North End, but it is worth a stop if you care about the history of techno. It's tough to call or find actual information online about what to expect, so we took a chance. We were a bit bummed to see that there were specific tour dates of the small but packed room of techno history. However, we slid in toward the end (not sure we needed to be so surreptitious) and got to hear a lot of rich history. There are artifacts and brief annotations throughout the room, too, in case you end up perusing the space on your own. On this day, unfortunately the main record store was closed for repairs. However, we did get to spend some time in the much smaller pop-up record store, which had a lot of house records (not as much techno on this given day). Local DJs were (wo)manning the cashier space, and they had free gatorade and water. So friendly! Bring your records or music! On the top floor, there was a pop-up DJ table, where a sign beckoned DJs to take a turn.

They offer a great mail order service for those not in the Motor City, and I know first hand that they ship to vinyl junkies all over this planet. It's an inspirational place to visit, well recommended if you have any passing interest in dance music.
