If you judge success by the lines, the buzz and the reviews on other sites, you'll have to conclude this cozy neighborhood joint is popular, busy and is serving up some very good Neopolitan pizza, which is fitting in Carlton, considered to be Melbourne's Little Italy.
Of course, D.O.C. stands for 'Denominazione di Origine Controllata' and while typically you'll see this on wine bottles to authenticate their Italian origin, you can also certify D.O.C. on pizza. To do so, you need to make two pizzas at the proper level to earn certification: Marinara: tomatoes, oil, oregano , garlic and a Margherita with tomatoes, oil, mozzarella, basil.
We found the pizza here excellent, and they had some delicious simple salads, wine and dessert. Pizzas are small, so ordered three pizzas for three people, including their margherita, a meat and olive and a mushroom and truffle.
The size of the restaurant is cozy boarding on claustrophobic, with the caveat that were dining here on a warm summer's evening, and the heat from the pizza oven turned up the sticky factor inside considerably.
