My now husband and I first saw Michael & John's Band, 2nd Chance Band, on our 3rd date at the Abington Ale House & they were amazing! An acoustic blend of Top 40, Country and Rock was right up our alley - we knew we had to see them again.
Fast forward a year and a half - Michael and John's company MixMatch Entertainment was the DJ hired for a friend's wedding, which is where we got to really see their talent & absolutely fell in love. We had just gotten engaged a few weeks earlier and were on the hunt for the perfect Wedding Day Entertainment! Turns out we didn't have to look very far at all.
The bride walked down the aisle to John's soft acoustic guitar & perfectly fit the mood for their ceremony on the beach. During cocktail hour, John played the guitar again and Michael sang similar stylings as to what we had heard on our 3rd date. It was a bit livelier than the ceremony and really got the guests excited for the rest of the evening.
The reception is where we REALLY fell in love with MixMatch Entertainment. Now, I'm not much of a dancer & rarely spend time on the dance floor other than slow songs where I really don't need much skill. I can honestly say I didn't leave the dance floor all night... except to re-hydrate... and the night was over before I knew it. I remember saying to my husband, "wait, was that it?"
As we left the dance floor, my husband and I looked at each other and knew this was it. I told my husband to go get their business card & ask if they take verbal deposits. We absolutely just HAD to have them perform at our wedding. Hands down, this was the best DJ we've ever seen... and we've been to A LOT of weddings.
We met with Michael shortly after our friend's wedding. He was extremely accommodating, working with our opposite schedules (Matt works nights, I work days in Boston) & even came to our home to discuss MixMatch Entertainment's varying DJ packages, up-lighting and even availability of a photobooth! Michael worked with our budget and beat the up-lighting estimate our venue provided us.
After we paid a deposit, Michael gave us an online Username and Password so we could update our "Must Play" and "Do Not Play" lists anytime, day or night. Also online was an extensive list of every song you could ever imagine (listed by song name and by artist), with clips to hear them and links to easily add them to a pre-set form where we list Names for Introductions, Songs for each special dance, etc. This really couldn't have been any easier or convenient. (PS. Just a side note, Michael gets a notification every time you make a change online. Keep that in mind when you're updating your playlists after a few cocktails at 3am - Whoops!)
We met with Michael again about a week before our wedding to go over our song selections, introductions and other notes. We had MixMatch play a Flash Drive of string quartet songs we hand-selected for our ceremony (Guest Arrival, Prelude, Processional and Recessional). For the cocktail hour, we had them play a similar set to what we had heard at our friend's wedding, which our guests are STILL talking about over a month later. They said the music perfectly fit the venue and "feel" of our wedding. Our ONE regret of the day was that we weren't able to enjoy it too!
Our reception is where they really KILLED IT. We had 196 guests, a variety of ages and musical preferences, on the dance floor all night long. They played a variety of Oldies (for the Aunts and Uncles), a little JT & Walk the Moon (for us 20 & 30-somethings) and the perfect number of slow songs. A lot of people say that sometimes the dance floor will empty when the beat slows down, but that never happened with our wedding. It was truly flawless from beginning to end.
Also, my Aunt sang our song & Michael was able to give her the instrumental version so she could practice beforehand and prepare. Oh, and Michael is also a really good secret keeper! I hired Rene Rancourt to sing the National Anthem for my husband's wedding gift (he's a Veteran & we got married on Veteran's Day - it was fitting). Michael was in on the secret and was able to get Rene into the venue & inconspicuously let me know that he did arrive so I could stop stressing out and begin to relax a little bit. Without his help, I wouldn't have been able to pull off the surprise.
So, Michael & John, thank you so much for kicking ass at our wedding. We couldn't be happier with your professionalism, preparedness or personality you brought to our big day. You are truly the best of the best & well worth the investment. We'll see you soon at Trivia Night! read more
