Mizpah Hotel is reportedly haunted by "The Lady in Red". They offer various tours of the hotel and sell merchandise. Plus, they're still operating as a hotel and casino. The architecture and decor is lovely: beautiful windows, chandeliers, wood bars, carpeted stairs, old elevators, colorful couches. According to their website, it's been a destination since 1907 and was restored to it's glorious yesteryear decor in 2011. They have lots of artifacts from decades ago - old pictures, paintings, hotel keys, casino chips, and so forth. It's fun seeing the mash-up between items from today and yesterday. But, we weren't able to stay for the night or go on a tour.

We were returning from Reno & decided to spend the night at the historic Mizpah Hotel. Hard to believe that at one time this five story property was the tallest building in NV. Reading some of the literature about the hotel, it shows it had the first elevator in Tonopah. We stayed on the fifth floor, but didn't have any contact with The Lady in Red, who is said to wander that floor. The room itself was quite nice, clean, with a comfortable bed while the hotel shows the old world artistry of hand made interior decorations. The staff were all friendly & helpful. We had dinner in the Jack Dempsey Room which was very good & breakfast in the Pittman Cafe, which was not nearly as nice. Parking was tight, but close by the entrance.

08.30.24 The Mizpah Hotel is an incredible place of history and should not be missed if passing through Tonopah

Historic hotel with old charm [Tonopah NV] After passing through the town of Tonopah several times on our way to Las Vegas we finally booked a room at the Mizpah Hotel for an overnight stay. Last year I had a chance to walk around the different floors and housekeeping was nice enough to show me the Lady In Red room on the 5th floor, Room #502. My original review has a more detailed account of my experience where at that time I did a solo self-guided tour while hubby waited downstairs in the huge sitting area. This time he came upstairs with me. He said he felt chills and smelled perfume in the air. As for me -- nothing. Smelled like air freshener to me. The Lady in Red is said to be a kindhearted presence, watching over the hotel as if still bound by her past profession. We were assigned a room on the 3rd Floor, supposedly this is the floor where heavy footsteps of children running up and down the halls could be heard. Last year during my visit I did see two children roaming around the floors (one in his early teen and the other younger), it was in mid afternoon after guest checkout so only housekeeping were in the building. It looked like they were helping with the housekeeping because I heard them mention something about a trash bag. This time I saw two kids again when we were on the 3rd floor. The older one told me that "the hotel was haunted" and started giggling as both ran down the stairs. I didn't think anything of it because in both experiences they looked very real LoL! I even asked the desk clerk if there were kids checked in w/ their parents and I was assured "yes" there were families staying that evening. Every time we meet people they would give us a fist bump to make sure we were real ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ At the registration counter there is a large book where guests can note down any paranormal experiences they've encountered during their stay. Wished I had time to read some of them. We did inquire about a ghost tour but we had to book 48 hours in advance so unfortunately we weren't able to do that. Mizpah Hotel is a historic landmark that dates back to 1907, built during the height of the silver mining boom, its name taken from the nearby Mizpah Mine that delivered the first silver lode. I did not feel any presence. Our room was cozy with vintage decor and I slept like a baby not feeling a single funky paranormal activity. Checked off my bucket list. Review #3522 updated

The folks who saved and restored this Hotel did a superb job! Their dedication and homage to those that came before is impressive. This is one of the coolest places I've ever stayed. We stayed in the Wyatt Earp Room in a bed styled after a real wagon. Comfortable mattress, great pillows and sheets. The walls gave both a pictorial as well as a written history of Wyatt Earp. The offerings in the room were thoughtful and well laid out. I want to keep coming back until I've tried all the rooms! The staff is friendly and helpful. Be sure to make your reservation at the Jack Dempsey room for a steak dinner you won't forget. This hotel is at the heart of Tonopah's History and incredibly important to preserving an important part of Nevada's History. Step in and you'll feel you've been transported back in time.

The building has been renovated and the decor is charming. That said, go in knowing you're in a building from 1907. Rooms are very small but definitely adequate. Although the hotel is nonsmoking the smell of a hundred years of smoke lingers. Parking... eh...our check in person recommended we park in the street due to the lot being shared with the casino and some recent drunk driver issues. The location is walkable and we felt safe exploring in the evening. Overall, a quaint place and perfectly acceptable for the area. We'd stay again.

Stayed in Unit 504: Lady in Red - Ghosted at the Mizpah!! OMG, so fantastic. Guided tour all over the hotel, even the basement!! Food was very good and drinks a great price and strong. The casino is something from the past, as well. The staff makes it all come together. Over the top historic, ghostly and well worth it. We even got to keep overnight, the Dowsing Rods and EMF Meters to detect the spirits. Our room, 504, was on fire with the EMF Meter we had; it lit up so crazy by the bed, had to throw a towel over it to go to sleep.

A very interesting place with an interesting history. The decor is gorgeous, the craftsmanship is something you do not see in modern architecture anymore. We would've stayed there but the front desk associate a younger woman was extremely rude and had a hostile attitude. I said hello and she rolled her eyes and was not nice when I asked a few questions about the hotel's history. Sadly we decided to leave. I hope they have more upbeat and friendlier people on their staff.

Ask the Community - Mizpah Hotel

Is this a dog friendly hotel?

Yes it's listed on Bring Fido

    Is it haunted?

Supposedly, yes. Around 100 years ago, a mysterious lady in red was strangled and stabbed by a jealous lover on the 5th floor. There have been reports of her roaming the halls - sounds of footsteps, shaking of chandeliers, etc. She didn't visit me.…

Can I park a 27 foot RV there?

Probably not. The parking lot is small. You might be able to park somewhere on a side road, but I’m not sure. I’d give them a call.

This was a great decision. We got one of the suites which was one of the most unique hotel rooms I've ever stayed in complete with 19th century French books and turn of the 20th century charm. Our suite was unique with a smallish living room connecting to an old timey bedroom and bathroom. Everything was clean and very comfortable. I really liked the Belvada themed shampoo and soap. I don't usually sleep well in hotels but the hotel bed here was great. We also had a nice view down onto the street and the Mizpah sister property to the Belvada. There was a coffee machine, refrigerator and microwave. We really enjoyed our evening in this room and it was perfect for what we were looking for. The location was excellent with a couple different places to get food including an A&W and a casino restaurant just across the street. There's also several shops and amenities within a block or two. Really helpful for travellers. There's also a really neat casino with all sorts of things like written checks from different celebrities and a neat stuffed bear over there. Tonopah is one of the more unique places I've ever been with the vibrant history of the late 19th and early 20th century still echoing loudly in that town. The locals were friendly. Probably one of the best places to stop in the vast, expansive and gorgeous Nevada desert.

This motel has been featured on paranormal shows and in books as being "haunted". It has that creepy "Devils Rejects" or "The Hills Have Eyes" vibes since you are in a remote area and feels like a group of sketchy locals might be waiting for darkness to strike. When we first arrived there was construction going on in the parking lot that went on until 10pm. That was really annoying. I originally booked room #107 which is one of the most paranormal rooms and basically one of the only reasons I booked months in advance to get it. When I arrived the gentleman at the desk said he was sorry but there was an issue with room #107 and it could not be rented to me. I said told him that was disappointing since I booked this months out. I asked what was wrong with the room. He said there was a leak and could not be rented out. I opted for the 2nd most paranormal room which was #108 (The IT room). The manager gave us a few keys and said check a few rooms out since they were all empty but a couple. I was there for the paranormal accounts so stuck with #108. We took a self tour of the tiny museum. I did enjoy that and bought some merch. The museum had the vibes I was looking for. Creepy and kind clown dolls that have been donated over time. The museum is free and you can make a donation if you wish. I would recommend stopping by the museum. Once we got into the room we noticed cockroach traps in the corners and In the closet. Clearly there was is roach problem at this motel. The room just made me feel itchy and gross. I got no spooky vibes at all, no EMF activity in the room. I pulled out my blacklight and there were gross stains all over the wall, bed, and the toilet was unbearable. Me and my bro decided to sit in the parking lot at 9pm and walk the cemetery in the dark when nobody was there. As we walked outside to tour the cemetery we noticed the room light was on in room #107 and the curtain was cracked. We could see two people on the bed. I was pissed because the manager lied to me and said the room could not be rented out due to a leak, yet two people had checked into it. They probably offered to pay him more and he gave it to them. I did enjoy walking the cemetery and reading about each occupant. We paid our respects and went back to the room. After seeing how disgusting the room was we decided to check out at 10pm. We told the manager the room was too gross and could not stay the night especially with signs of a bug infestation. The manager said he knows the rooms aren't nice and he is sorry. They will not refund you if you choose to leave. They will only refund you if there is a mechanical issue or plumbing issue. I also think that is not good business. We packed our things back in the car and left for another hotel 5 minutes away. It was called the Belvada and was awesome. Also has a haunted past. 1906 Victorian style hotel. I would NOT recommend staying at the Clown Motel. It is worth seeing to go to the museum and cemetery but that's it. Avoid the rooms. I don't believe the rooms are haunted and it's a gimmick to get people to stay in these rundown rooms. I think the reviews where people say they could not stay the night wasn't because of ghosts but because of cockroaches. They need to spend less money on the outside decor and put more money into renovating the rooms. I was very disappointed and hands down worst motel I've ever stayed in!

It's been interesting to read reviews of others who have given the place much higher marks. However, there is a realization here that everyone has a different level of standards. Overall, we want a place that's clean and put together. We did not feel that was the case here. In other words, I could probably say it was about the worst hotel room I ever paid for. To begin with tissues from the previous guest were still behind the bed table. We left them there. The mattress spring covers weren't just dirty. It was stained and filthy. It was obvious with the condition of the way the bed was made and cords that there was no proper training on anything. There was a refrigerator in the room that when opened the ice had such a build up of ice you knew it had never been checked or cleaned. Evidently, he'd been there a bit as other keys were laying on the counter that had also been cropped off. He did look at me and grunt and then went back to sleep.
