This review is for the Clown Motel Museum. It's worth a stop if you happen to be in the area. It's unique, historical, creepy, and fun. If the buildings' exterior decor (a bunch of large, wooden, larger-than-life clowns) doesn't get your attention, park your car and take a step inside the museum if you dare. There are a ton of clowns and items related to clowns at the museum. They accept donations of clowns - surprise, right? Shelves and shelves of clowns. Walls covered in clowns, paintings, and whatnot. Floors filled with clowns. There was a customer who happened to be wearing clown make-up. There's a sign at the entrance stating that there are some haunted clowns - who knows if that's true?! Of course, they sell merchandise and I couldn't leave without buying a sticker. I have to admit that I was surprised to see patrons staying at the Clown Motel. As a bonus, there is a cemetery just a few feet away from the parking lot.

The experience was definitely scary, just not in the ways I wanted it to be. So this place, the Clown Motel has definitely been on my bucket list for some time. So many social media posts making me want to check it out. I was able to secure a night for about $125 with a summer discount code. Let me say, if you look at the rooms online you can tell it's a pretty basic room. You're coming here for the lure. Let's get into the good: The man who works and I believe owns the motel is very friendly; quiet, but friendly. The lure / experience is fun. You definitely are going to get some fun photos The air conditioning worked great The meh: The gift shop didn't have much being that the area was pretty decently sized. They had more items not for sale than for sale. My room had a nice fridge but was not clean Now the bad: The motel is seemingly falling apart. The flooring on the second floor is just panels. My room had a big break in the glass held up by tape. The bathroom had mold in it. The shower was pretty grody looking. The bathroom flooring was uneven. There are essentially zero amenities here. Not even an ice machine which is crazy being in the desert. The WiFi didn't work The walls are super thin so you hear everyone outside or next door. Overall it was a bummer. The place definitely didn't live up with what I wanted. Maybe I should have realized it was more of a social medial spot, but it is definitely worth a visit but not at all worth the stay.

On our drive from Vegas to Reno we had a chance to stop at one of the scariest motels in America the "Clown Motel" which is said to be haunted. My first impression of this motel was it was very colorful and cool looking. I didn't get a creepy vibe. Maybe if you have a fear of clowns it may feel creepy lol Only creepy thing was the cemetery next door. Nice little stop to check out the gift shop, stretch your legs and take some pictures.

Listen, this isn't the Waldorf - Astoria, it's the freakin' Clown Hotel. It's fun and inexpensive and clean(ish). If you're into photography, this place is a dream to shoot. Don't forget to visit (and photograph) the old cemetery next door filled with miners who died in mining accidents, victims of the "Tonopah plague", and a lot of babies and children. Some say the hotel and cemetery are haunted. Be respectful of where you tread if you visit the Tonopah Cemetery next door and please be mindful of the fact that you are visiting the final resting place for over 600 people. The owners of the Clown Motel are usually on site until like 11:00 pm every night and they're very friendly and happy to help you. Their souvenirs aren't too pricey so we got some tshirts, a hat, and some stickers. I'll share our favorite pics of our visit.

We've driven past here many many times but didn't have the time to stop in and beck it out. Hame (pronounced like Name but with an "H") was extremely pleasant and helpful. He's the artist that paints all of the artwork shown in, around and on the buildings! Awesome work ! We didn't stay over as we were heading elsewhere but when given the opportunity you should stop by even for a few minutes ! They do take donations - monetary and clowns. Also Hame can paint anything you want; just send a picture and he will mail it back - just check for pricing.

Let me start off by telling you, if you want to experience what horrible zero star India hotels are like, this is where you stay, I would know I am a world traveler and stayed in many hostels, This place is not haunted in the slightest bit, and my brother and I seek out haunted hotels. I got zero feelings of haunting here but let me tell you what there was..... there were sticky traps for cockroaches in every corner and every nook of the room. There was the smell of mold. There was dirty disgusting hair all over the bathroom and stains all over the walls. If you don't believe me just book the room and bring the black light with you. This place is disgusting. I am the last person to leave a hotel, but this is high up on the list of disgusting places to stay.... On top of that, they were doing construction in the parking lot and went past 10 PM. We literally had to walk outside and look at the guys on the tractors to get them to stop.... When I told the office guy how disgusting the room was, he just smiled and said I am sorry.... Not to mention we booked room 107 several months in advance when we checked in, he told us the room had a leak so we cannot stay in that room. Then he proceeded to check us into room 108, 40 minutes later two people checked into room 107 just for us to find out they offered him some cash.... So forget about booking in advance they don't give a dang. We went down the road to mizpah hotel and wow!!! Its like the ritz Carlton for the same price. I told the clown motel guy to keep the money, but this was the worst hotel I have ever stayed at.. All I can tell you is this place is absolutely disgusting. Proof is in the photos and if you still don't believe me, then go ahead and book a room... you are welcome. Book Mizpah hotel and check out clown motel cemetery at night its free skip the $20 tour. We did it solo with flashlights. CLOWN MOTEL IS DISGUSTING SCAM 100%

Museum visit [Tonopah NV] We stopped by this motel while we were on our way to Las Vegas... we've gone this way on our road trips many times before but this was the first time we actually stopped to check out the museum. The creepy clown-themed motel is located on the north end of Tonopah. Tonopah is between Reno and Las Vegas. We dropped by the lobby, entered the museum (which doubled as a mini gift shop) and was greeted by a caretaker... err, employee, I believe named Vijay. He has been an employee of the Clown Motel for over 6 years. He allowed us to take videos and pictures and we did to our hearts content. In fact, they have signs throughout the place that said "photography welcome" so don't mind me. Many clown dolls, statues, stuffed animals, porcelain statues, and wall hangings were on display towards the back of the museum staring down at us from every angle. Many came from around the world donated and gifted to the museum, priceless ones, not for sale, but for guests to view. Enjoy but do not touch. The collection is currently over 5000 clowns. Amazing and creepy! I purchased a shirt. Before heading out I wanted to take one more photo of the surroundings... as I got close to the stairs, a housekeeper was kind enough to offer if I wanted to see one of their popular rooms, Room 107. He unlocked the room for me. Very much clown-themed as I suspect the same as the other rooms. Not sure what the story is on why it is popular or if guests actually experienced paranormal encounters. The Old Tonopah Cemetery next door was very much a place that I would consider more haunted since Civil War Vets, 14 miners who were victims of the Tonopah-Belmont Mine Fire of 1911, and lots of children were laid to rest here (most under horrible circumstances). It certainly adds to its allure... We used to watch Ghost Adventures and Zak Bagans was drawn to the town of Tonopah and did a lockdown investigation at the Clown Motel (Season 14). Clown statues and old graveyard in the desert... yes, it actually exists ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Review #3521

Staff were pleasant and the rooms, though a bit aged, were comfortable and clean. They could use some updates but overall we had a great time spending the night in the World Famous Clown Motel! We will definitely revisit and check out the other theme rooms!

If you like clowns have I got the place for you! Each room has clown decor and a few have themes. We stayed in the Fear Unlimited room. Turn on the black lights and you'll find hidden messages on the wall! Good creepy fun. To be honest, go for the clowns and not the accommodations. Our shower may have been the scariest thing in the room and the beds aren't the greatest so one night is plenty. The graveyard tour next door is an add on and the history is chilling but the guide was a bit long winded. There's not a whole lot more to do in town but the Mizpah Hotel is good for dinner and has a haunted past.

First thing I spotted while exiting my car (Clown Motel parking lot).

I finally stopped at the Clown Motel, after many years of driving past. The kid in me has always loved a circus clown. :) Minus "POGO" of course! :-o I knew the Clown Motel was known for supposedly being a mix of haunted/creepy. A long time Nevada local I've heard many stories about this very spot! It wasn't until I spotted the blood stained concrete & rope (see pic) exiting my car that I immediately felt, super duper creepy. I'm assuming this was "propish" hopefully. The Motel office houses a multitude of clown memorabilia including hundreds of clown figurines. I was surprised to learn most every clown was donated to this very spot. Although, the current and previous owner have included their private collections as well. *The Clown Motel has zero clown figurines for sale- fyi. We were lucky enough to meet the "ghost hunter" while browsing the office. She shared many of her own, but also included several guest experiences in specific rooms. I must say it was very intriguing! While I personally have zero desire to book a room, I'll happily stop by on my next trip to drop off my donation! *The adjacent cemetery is definitely worth a look. FYI: This isn't a clown cemetery. :) The Tonopah cemetery 1901-1911 Most laid to rest in this cemetery died from either the mysterious "Tonopah Plague" or the Tonopah town fire. This spot feels ghostly for sure!

Amazing! This motel is super unique and special. I stayed at the Fear Unlimited themed room (107) and had a blast. I love all things horror and paranormal, and it did not disappoint both in decor and paranormal activity (in a good way). Heym, who checked me in, was also the artist who painted the rooms and he's extremely creative and talented, and very nice. As luck would have it, I was traveling solo and my car decided to break down there as I was about to check out. Heym and all his staff were incredibly kind, patient and helpful while I got that sorted out. Just great, great people. I highly recommend this place!

Stopped by the Clown Motel while passing through Tonopah because--let's be real--how could you not check out a place with that name? From the outside, it definitely delivers on the creepy factor, with clown-themed décor and a cool, eerie cemetery right next door. They even had a sign advertising ghost hunts, which adds to the whole spooky vibe. That said, I was pretty disappointed because I wanted to check out the gift shop, and according to the sign, it was supposed to open at 8:30 AM. We waited until 8:40 AM, but no one ever showed up to open it. Definitely a bummer! If you're into weird roadside attractions, it's worth stopping by for the atmosphere alone--but don't count on the gift shop actually being open when it says it will be.

Come on in if your dare !

"We all go a little mad sometimes!" Norman Bates, Psycho Why do we seek out places that are mysterious and peculiar. You know those tingling spots where ones hairs stand up on their neck. Should I really be here. They might be coming for you! Do I dare step inside? Is this place cursed? Have you been in a place that just does not feel right? As you drive down the highway, the sign with a giant clown appears in the mirror. As it gets closer, should we stop. In the back of your mind your wondering why ? The unexplainable and bizarre grab your attention. The Clown Motel is located in Tonopah, Nevada. It's been given the nickname "America's Scariest Motel." Upon entering this abnormal place you question quickly, "why you stopped?" Was it sheer curiosity! Maybe just the unconventional and unexpected extraordinary made the difference. Either way, one debates whether or not to get out of the car and actually go inside. Are you scared? You might be after walking in the door here to this motel! What an array of all artifacts of clowns. The individual that greeted me explained the historical significance of the motel. You are able to come in the motel and look around without staying the night. Shall we test how brave you really are? This is not your atypical motel. The perplexing theme of clowns in a motel as a theme can be found in our nightmares. If your brave enough, sleep well. Make sure and take the tour in the Old Tonopah Cemetery. Are you looking for an unconventional and outlandish place to visit? Look no further than the Clown Motel. Stay here if you dare! Is it make believe or some phantasmal nonsense. You be the judge.

This was a great decision. We got one of the suites which was one of the most unique hotel rooms I've ever stayed in complete with 19th century French books and turn of the 20th century charm. Our suite was unique with a smallish living room connecting to an old timey bedroom and bathroom. Everything was clean and very comfortable. I really liked the Belvada themed shampoo and soap. I don't usually sleep well in hotels but the hotel bed here was great. We also had a nice view down onto the street and the Mizpah sister property to the Belvada. It's been interesting to read reviews of others who have given the place much higher marks. However, there is a realization here that everyone has a different level of standards. Overall, we want a place that's clean and put together. We did not feel that was the case here. In other words, I could probably say it was about the worst hotel room I ever paid for. To begin with tissues from the previous guest were still behind the bed table. We left them there. The mattress spring covers weren't just dirty. It was stained and filthy. It was obvious with the condition of the way the bed was made and cords that there was no proper training on anything. There was a refrigerator in the room that when opened the ice had such a build up of ice you knew it had never been checked or cleaned. Moving down to the restaurant ..... the ketchup when turned upside down "clumped" to opening and didn't slide like fresh ketchup. The bottles of other toppings appeared to have also been there a mighty long time without being freshened up. Okay .. what did we order? We ordered two hot fudge sundaes. The hot fudge was lukewarm and clumped... After all, what did we expect? The following morning when we stopped by "Registraiton" to drop the keys off, the clerk was sound asleep in his chair. Evidently, he'd been there a bit as other keys were laying on the counter that had also been cropped off. He did look at me and grunt and then went back to sleep.

Ah, the Jim Butler Inn. I have had the pleasure of several mandatory stays here over the past few…read moreyears as the price has been within a comfortable range for my employer when booking in the Tonopah area. Though my co-workers may not agree; seasoned veterans of temporarily residing in rooms of varying decrepitude across eastern Nevada as they are, I have mostly enjoyed my stays here. The most memorable grievance expressed were that the hauntings of the neighboring Mizpah Hotel were likely mistaken as the wails of a patron at the Jim Butler Motel. My personal laments include slightly outdated, dimly-lit rooms, tight parking for the front-facing rooms, and the presence of a stack of outdated magazines in the lobby that feature my ex-boyfriend gleefully holding another girl atop his shoulders on the cover. This issue is apparently quite coveted by the town of Tonopah, as it has, like the ghosts of the town, haunted me at other motel lobbies within the city limits. Typically, outside of Covid, the Jim Butler offers it's saving grace: THE BINDER. Created by Print Shop Deluxe circa the mid-late 1990's, I have had the luxury of perusing a dedicated history and activity guide (complete with dot-matrix clip art) for the town of Tonopah. All activities defined are listed in a spreadsheet and divided by the amount of time one has to spend enjoying such activities. One hour activities, three-hour activities, full-day activities; an option is available for all schedules. The binder boasts that Tonopah has "some of the least light pollution in all of the country," which is both an amazing sentence and 100% true. Unfortunately, this timeless relic was not available due to Covid, but it is my hope to someday again sink my teeth into this bible of preference. I must give the most credit to the staff of the Jim Butler for their above and beyond nature to aid their customers. We once encountered an overnight tire leak in the parking lot for a work project last summer. We were due to leave for our project area around 7:00 am, and we inquired about the tire shop in town at the front desk, as they were listed as being open, but were not available in the shop at that point. Rather than shrug and send us away, the woman at the front desk called the home line of the owner ran the shop; effectively sending him to the shop to help us get the tire patched within the hour. When a man tore down the hill on a mini dirt-bike down the road to meet us, I had to smile and truly appreciate the kindness met with our situation. While it may not be my personal choice for a stay - I'd prefer to be haunted at The Mizpah next door, or to be surrounded by circus freaks at The Clown Motel - the people and the binder win here.
