Good selection, but the aisles are very crowded. Same high prices as the all the smaller local grocery stores. Friendly employees.

My wife and I stopped by Hirano Store around 10:00 a.m. on a Thursday morning to grab a quick bite…read more We picked up a bowl of chili (without rice) and a bowl of mac salad. Since both items we ordered had been prepared beforehand and didn't require additional cooking, our order was ready in about three minutes. Overall, I thought the chili was just ok. Although all the ingredients in the chili were properly cooked, the chili as a whole lacked depth of flavor. Additionally, when I opened the container, there was an unappetizing amount of oil that had pooled to the top. I am not used to seeing olives and mushrooms mixed into chili, but these additions added some more texture to the chili. The mac salad was a big miss for me. I thought the macaroni was slightly overcooked, the salad lacked salt, and there was just too much mayo mixed in. I'm genuinely curious if I ordered all the wrong items, because other folks seem to really enjoy food from Hirano Store. Based off of my single experience today, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to visit Hirano Store again.

We were only $20 short of reaching the $300 spending requirement for the free gifts, which should speak to how frequently we visited and how much money we spent at this store. Despite being repeat customers, every visit was met with the same poor customer service. All of the cashiers who helped us were rude, curt, and could not even acknowledge the smallest greetings. The customer service was so unpleasant that it was not worth the experience. The food is not amazing, the prices are not great, and the only thing this place has is convenience--nothing more to offer. In one instance, I got a burger and a black milk tea with boba. I specifically told the cashier that I wanted boba, but she did not ring it up. When I inquired about the missing boba, a young employee addressed the matter with the cashier. They talked, and I said that if it cost more, I could pay for it. She rang up the boba with zero acknowledgment of her mistake. Nothing came out of her mouth. Complete silence. In another instance, I asked a cashier what the gifts were if we reached $300 in purchases. She did not say a word. She simply reached for a card with images of the gifts and placed it on the opposite side of where I was standing. She said nothing. I asked if those were the gifts, and she said yes. She then pulled out her phone while I looked at the card, and I simply said, "Okay, thank you." These are just a few examples of the many disturbing encounters we had with all of the cashiers. While on vacation in a tourist area, this is not the type of conduct or customer service one expects to experience. It was disturbing, and we dreaded going there despite the convenience.

Went in to purchase a drink and some soap and stayed in the parking lot for a couple minutes after the purchase. The BIG lady (she can't be missed) came out extremely hostile and territorial like a dog asking why we were parked there after we had purchased something. We informed her we had just purchased something and were collecting ourselves before hitting the road. I informed her we could leave if it bothered her. Her attitude and emotional regulation were so poor, she quickly escalated and started threatening to call the police because it was "private property" after I told her she could have just calmly told us paying customers to leave. She proceeded to insult me and called me a bitch after I did not allow her to disrespect me. Anyway, she wasn't very aloha to say the least. I can't imagine how she treats other employees. Sending her aloha

The offering of local tropical flowers may be the best part of their inventory. They are beautiful and inexpensive. Inside, the inventory is lacking and pricy. The aisles are tight and with some shelves half empty. They have a decent, but pricy, selection of wine, spirits and beer. Then there is a limited selection of various household needs. I have never found what I was looking for on two visits. The staff is friendly. And the place has a lot of good character. But they need to ramp up the inventory.

What works here: At least during our visits, the store was well stocked. This actually shocked me because holy shit, it makes no difference whether you are here on a weekday/weekend/noon/15 minutes before closing, they are always, always, always packed. Bizarre mix of a store that is not an old school 80's style Walmart but it's also not a Supercenter either as the store does not have enough square footage. With that said, there is certainly a little of this and a little of that in here. Pharmacy? Sure New cell phone plus a service provider for it? Yep Garden Center? Of course McD's for a greasing? Naturally Eye Exam? Why not Booze? Duh There is also the usual mix of clothing, office crap, basic sporting gear, an aisle of "local" favorites and while not a full grocery store/experience - there is more here than what you would think. What doesn't work here: Checking out can be tough due to said crazy busyness. Also note that they don't do shopping bags here in the traditional sense so BYO on that one. The parking lot situation is an insurance claim adjuster's wet dream. People walking from all sides & directions like mindless zombies. Cars coming from multiple entrance/exit points. Other strip mall stores like Gamestop/Domino's/Ross also use the same parking lot. It's a lot. You find religion before each backup attempt. Open daily from 6am-11pm and if this doesn't cut it for you, there is a Safeway and a Target around the corner.
