If I could give zero respect , I would. The woman at the register is consistently rude. She never says a word, doesn't acknowledge us, just rings things up like we're a bother. Happens every time. Super uncomfortable vibe. Then again it's kind of the only place close for a lot of people. read more

We had an interesting experience. For one. No public bathrooms. They have port a potties out front that all say our of order. The checkout process is slow. It was our turn to check out and the cashier left and went outside to talk to someone in the parking lot. Super weird. Upon returning she scanned our items and dropped our soda bottle on the floor near her feet, on her side of the register. She didn't lean down to pick it up. Just left it there. So after paying we went and grabbed another soda out of the cooler. read more

They have hiring signs on the doors but everyone that works there is the absolute worst! The management needs to fire everyone and start over! 6/17/2021: This was THE last day spending time on Big Island; my friends and I decided cruising the Southern portion of Big Island. FYI: Everytime I'm exploring Big Island South from Captain Cook, I always make my elongated pit stops here due to Ocean View Market, OVM sells ice cold beverages, sauces, spices, and other products not sold or found anywhere in Kailua-Kona, KTA Market-Waikoloa, Foodland Grocery Stores, Tarchjay, Walmart, etc. plus, OVM sells HUGE bags of Kona Coffee for $37.00 each! This entire shopping area despite, being small is my BEST SECRET I'm willing sharing with YELPERS~hint-hint. Landmark: Please look for a gas station which is on the right side of the road; Ocean View Market-OVM's location is on the left side across the street from the gas station. Aside, the fruits and vegetables sold at OVM, I assume are grown locally because just smelling each kind of fruit and vegetables omit a tropical scent not found at typical grocery stores like the stores I mentioned above so, you know the produce was just harvested that morning. BTW: Also, I wanted mentioning typically you can use a toilet inside OVM as I have in my past visits; however, due to COVID19 Pandemic, a few Port-A-Potties were installed on the backside portion behind OVM, where there is a tiny wash station, and inside OVM, a bottle of hand sanitizer greets you at the front entrance which you MUST use before shopping as well as a sign stating everyone MUST WEAR A MASK or no service. Moreover, just steps away from OVM, there are more shops alongside OVM's parking lot adjacent to OVM: There's an awesome bakery, an organic coffee shop which serves delectable, homemade food you may eat outside via the tables or to-go, too. Finally, I have a sneaky suspicion, Mama's Fish Restaurant located in Paia, Maui buys their restaurant food, sauces, and their desserts here! Hawaiian grocery store poke- the best. Tried their spicy ahi tuna and plain, although it may not look it...they were amazing. Also tried the Manapua which are the Hawaiian take on the Chinese pork bun which tasted like a traditional pork but but very brightly colored. Lastly tried the spam musubi which was also good. Overall not bad grocery run in the captain cook area. read more

DO NOT SHOP HERE. I've lived here for over 15 years and I've been loyal to this grocery store. however, after today I will never step a foot in this store again, here is why. I've purchased many items from this store that have been completely stale even though the packages are still in good sell by date. recently I've come how to throw away taco shells costing nearly $10. I've never complained to them about it but recently I purchased Annie's crackers here and they were in a sealed box. after getting home again I opened the package to find a rip the bag. it seemed to be a manufacture problem. so I wrote Annie's stating my claim and they sent me a coupon for a free package. today I go in there to redeem it and they say they will not redeem it. so I'm out yet another $10 from this store. the manager Monica said "if you had the box we could do something for you." well I through the box away weeks ago. I spend over $200 here every week. but this is the last money I will be throwing away here. no malama for your customers! no aloha! shame on you ocean view market! read more

I was very grateful to have come across this supermarket. There are very few supermarkets in this area. Ocean View Market is right off Highway 11 in the same vicinity as Aloha Gas Station (cheap gas btw!) and several restaurants (Coffee Grinds and Dj's Pizza & Bake Shop). If you're driving through Ocean View and need water and snacks, this would be a good place to stop. I bought two 1.5 liter bottles of Menehune Water for $3.00. There are also breakfast and deli sandwiches available at a much lower cost than what you will get at restaurants and tourist attractions. read more

Though I basically liked this market it doesn't have the feel of a homey place. Since prices here are company store high if they brought the dented can section towards the front so that upon entering the store you're greeted by the bargain shoppers, it'd likely change that. Since port-a-potties are a general Hawaiian joke, the lack of proper bathrooms inside the store (and in town) is publicly inconvenient especially when the next working restrooms are four miles further north at Manuka state park and if you're going that far you may as well continue to Choicemart in Captain Cook where they have clean facilities. The fresh vegetable section is average in price and selection for rural Hawai'i, but generally if you need to get onions or some needed item to complete your dinner, then you'll find it here. read more

The store itself is nice all the LADIES that I ran into are awesome BUT then the older man that supposedly runs register 1 needs to be fired ... I went in to buy over $300 worth of food and he had the most stinkiest attitude and on top of that tell me go to another store (because I asked for the manager because I called him out on his attitude , )like the OLD MAN owns the store ...I'm really not sure why they would have someone working there that is so unhappy with his life he takes it to work and takes it out on customers ... Right off Highway 180 which goes completely around the island, a perfect one stop shop location. Post Office, Auto parts store and gas station all in complex. Full supermarket with meat, vegetables and diary. Also has prepared hot food while supply lasts. I always stop by for snacks and fill up when headed to Volcano National Park from Kona. In response to Abigail's review below, I'm writing to defend this market / grocery store. How many grocery stores are known for being public bathrooms? That's not their job, they sell groceries and are not restaurants. Secondly, Abigail, if you haven't noticed, this is not a tourist hot spot. It's the only grocery store within 25 minutes either way, gas too. It serves a very "underserved" rural population. It's located in the largest subdivision in the united states, many folks are on catchment water and off-grid. They are living on the edge and yes, with that brings this trouble for businesses offering public restrooms. Yes, there are plenty of poor areas even in Hawaii. Ocean View Market is a good, clean grocery store. If you want to use restrooms, stop in at Naalehu's Punalu'u Bakery, buy some donuts and use the facility there that is used to large volumes of travelers and tourists. You'll get your sugar fix for sure. It's easy to make spot judgements of people and places, but please, take a look around and their situation and walk in their shoes before you put it in writing so publicly. read more

I really like the staff here they are a small team who give helpful service to a huge community and are always friendly. The shopping center can be madcap at times but it's basically our 'downtown' and a place where locals meet and greet each other (and fill up their gas tanks), and for the most part the Aloha is abundant. I am happy with OV Market's selection and the grass fed beef and fresh seafood is top notch and priced pretty reasonably. Bakery goods a little sparse, produce very fresh and organized, and many health food items including gluten free foods. Dairy is a little expensive but if you need cheese and butter and milk and you live locally, it's all fresh and worth the convenience. read more

Good selection of local food given it's limited space, prices here are a bit higher but it's so far out from any major food store that it's worth coming here if you're in Ka'u to get some fresh fruit & veggies. This place deserves negative stars. As a visitor to the island I was shocked. Their only bathroom was on the side of the market (portapotty). There was a strange man hanging around the side of the market. I was traveling solo and didn't want to find out if he was safe. There weren't any other bathrooms in the strip mall. I went into the market where an employee said I would have to ask manager to use their bathroom. I asked a woman named Leanne who said I would need to be escorted. I waited several minutes and I followed one employee to the back. She left to the other side of the store. I looked around and found the bathroom. I went into one that appeared unlocked. Several seconds later Leanne unlocked the door with her key and barged in on me. She was screaming at me that I should have waited. I said "Do you really want to have this conversation now"? "It was an emergency". She said, "I don't care"' as she walked away. As a female solo traveler I would say stay away from this awful place. Really made me hate how the locals treat their visitors. This wouldn't have happened if I was a local but I hear she abuses her employees. I notified the owner who never apologized nor took responsibility for her outburst.
