After promptly selling our colonial home in July, 2013, we began looking for a ranch style home that met our current needs. The market was saturated with colonials in the area we wanted to live. We found ourselves in quite a dilemma. Despite our apprehension, we came to the conclusion that it was desirable to build. During an internet search, we came across one of your homes located in Boulder Pointe. While the subdivision and model was very appealing, the construction including the lot size was too large. Then we identified Wolverine Estates as a potential location. We visited your Laura model at Partridge Creek and immediately knew this was exactly the one we desired. We loved the openness and convenience of each section. We met Margie to begin the process. She was very helpful and patient throughout the process. We are sure that we didn't make it very easy for Margie at times, but she always smiled and was very friendly and accommodating. As Margie transitioned into another opportunity with your company, Erin was always eager to help us as we visited the model frequently, whether to take measurements or consider interior decorating and design ideas. She was also extremely knowledgeable, professional and offered constructive suggestions. As construction began, we visited the house regularly to see its progress. During our visits, we met many of the contractors. MJC's selection of contractors is commendable. We found them to be experienced, professional and courteous while completing their job in a quality manner. While living in our house for about two years, we only found insignificant items that needed our attention and were not builder's negligence. Also during our visits we had the opportunity to meet John and Dewey. They managed the work orders sequence effectively and efficiently and worked with the contractors to ensure quality standards were being met. While Dewey was at the house frequently, on several occasions, John met us at the house to ensure we were pleased with the work that was about to occur. They took care of the smallest details. Based on our observations, it seemed like there were minimal issues with the Township inspectors, again a sign of MJC's quality building practices. They consistently took a personal interest to address our concerns, so much so that when it came time for our walk through, we had very minor modifications. John and Dewey were so attentive; it almost seemed that they were building our home for themselves. We could not say enough about how accommodating and good natured they were. We have received many compliments from our friends and acquaintances who have visited us and some of them have even considered building an MJC house. We would like to thank MJC and all of your staff and contractors for building our "dream" house. read more

Erin Steward is absolutely horrible to work with and all the residents in Wolverine complain that's she's the worst part of the building process. They use very low quality builder grade material even if you pay for 'upgraded' choices. I can't actually think of one single neighbor who hasn't had big $ issues with their homes. Drive through the newer phases and look for yourself at how bad the roads and driveways look for brand new homes. And good luck with getting anything fixed through your one-year warranty because any time one of MJC's contractors comes out to 'fix' something, they somehow make the problem even worse. Take your money and run to another builder. I would never recommend MJC to anyone ever. We had been warned ourselves and wished we had listened. read more

When building a home, do not even consider MJC. They're hiding from the fact they poured a shitty driveway and used bad material/ mixes. Already need a new driveway on a brand new home. I've contacted the family office multiple times within my first year of buying to come out and look at my driveway, never heard back. Barb Gates, Director of Customer Service is one of the worst directors I've ever delt with. I even had a Project Manager from MJC come out and take a look, he quoted, "do not park on that side of the driveway." Even having a $500k home and being told to not park in the driveway is a RED FLAD COMPANY! I have even showed up to their office, and was disgusted by the way Barb spoke with me and my father. She was so speechless because they know exactly what they are doing with these driveways, as she said multiple people reach out about their driveways! Mine by far is the worst in Monarch. Our experience with the builder (MJC Companies) was subpar at best...the design process is OK but if you are a first time builder (like we were), it can be confusing at times. The people managing that process were helpful and mostly responsive, but can get overwhelmed with what I believe is a broken process, which is not their fault. The build process is a chore, and we found ourselves having to keep going back to the site to catch and report errors made during the build process MANY times. At the end of the day, the quality of the home, in our opinion, was not commensurate with the price. Craftsmanship was shoddy in some areas, particularly the electrical, who were the worst of all the contractors. Sconces were hung, and light switches were placed, without any regard for where we wanted them or where they should go. By the way, they will make you use Lafata cabinets because they provide the best quality (meh), but you will have to work with Colleen. She is awful. Rude, unresponsive and will not listen to customer input on the project. We wanted it designed a specific way. It took MONTHS for her to figure it out, all the while making us feel like we were the problem (we asked for nothing crazy, just an island centered on the cooktop hood!) and then when the cabinets went in...wasn't centered. Terrible interface with Lafata and MJC needs to train someone else there to deal with MJC sites. The worst part of the experience was the orientation (walk-through) and the post-sale customer service. There are a number of items the builder should have caught before closing, and we're still dealing with them now. Most notably...stains caused by one of their contractors on the patio floor (which they are now refusing to fix), crooked door handles, our island is clearly crooked, dripped glue on the driveway we cant get off, sconces installed practically touching the ceiling, stained bead board in the front entryway and loggia, loose fixture handles, etc, etc, etc. The customer service superintendent is responsive but has struggled to follow through on fixing the majority of issues we had and his first answer to almost everything is "oh, that will resolve itself." The customer service director is just awful. Every email is responded to with an obligatory, knee-jerk "no" rather than using common sense and actually investigating the situation. MJC constantly tells their clients "We want to deliver you a beautiful home." In several respects, it is beautiful, but not so for the amount of money we've spent. MJC will make mistakes and then try to get you to accept it. Our dog wash was a perfect example. Wasn't even close to the measurements we wanted, not only in height but width (which then created a change in cabinet size), and when we told them, they first told us WE were wrong (I guess they figured I couldn't read a tape measure?) then admitted they did it incorrectly and spent the next week trying to convince how much work it would be to fix. At the end of the day, we just accepted it but what could we do? We had this experience several times through the process. Many people from the neighborhood have told us they had the same experiences but that "You'll love your home." Honestly, I'm struggling to see when the love will come, especially based on their customer service, which has really let us down. I would not recommend MJC, especially first-time home builders, and if I had to do it all over again, for the money, I would have probably gone with Cranbrook. They cost about the same for a fully customized home. read more

I'm renting a condo they built. Omg the shoddy worksmanship. The walls and ceilings are paper thin. And literally paper in the basement. Stick anything and it tears. Had I known there was a unit above me (the property management company didn't mention that until after I signed the lease), I never would've moved in. I can hear kids running. I have a basement. I can still hear footsteps above the main floor! And the water when they flush the toilet. The cell phone vibrating on the table. I think they put the living room above my master bedroom. How stupid is that?! I almost bought here prior to renting. SO glad I didn't. I will be sure to NEVER buy anything with their name on it. Quality is not a priority for this company. read more

My furnace stopped working within 1st year. They sent out their service person and he said that our warranty was void because we had a humidifier installed. I then called their main office and told them of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act which protects the consumer from deceptive warranty practices. We wanted to shine a little light on the experience we had with MJC Companies before any one else decides to think about building with this company. I am also not usually the type to write reviews, but this experience deserves one. We originally signed our papers to build our home back in December of 2020. Although turned off from the start by the saleswoman we were greeted by, we figured it couldn't be that bad. We choose a lot and floorplan we loved so we hoped that would override any negativity the saleswoman threw at us. Our estimated time of completion at the time of signing the documents was 8-12 months. Our lot was dug March of 2021. We picked our upgrades and finishes around this time. When we went to make our payment for the items, the original prices we were quoted on IN OUR CONTRACT came back higher for numerous items. Tile, doorknobs, you name it. We were shocked by the lack of communication; how can prices change without even a heads up? Whatever, we were angry, but again, loved the house so paid it and moved on. May, June, whole beginning of summer went on without a peep from our saleswoman about what was going on. After we reached out to ask why our house has been sitting for months on end without any progress, we were told wood hasn't been delivered due to lumber shortage. Fine, annoyed again, but understood it was a widely known issue. She told us July-August would be expected time frame. Those months rolled around, nothing. Now it was a labor issue. Supposedly there was a second crew that never showed (doubtful). Late August, the house that was planned in front of us is finished and we are next (yay!). So, we thought, we AGAIN have no communication so drive through the sub ourselves and email the salesperson. Their latest excuse, we didn't pass inspection. Well, we call Macomb Twp, sure enough all inspections were completed and passed with flying colors in April. Seems like they are picking and choosing whose house they would like to complete first, as Another house started in front of ours when we signed first. Fed up with the BS and lies, 6 months of the house sitting with not a single thing but a basement. The constant lies and run around from MJC is a joke. Not only do they treat you like another drop in their bucket, but they are also blatantly rude and disrespectful. The director had the audacity to tell us, quote "we aren't here to answer your questions and teach you how to build a house, we are only here to build it for you." PLEASE just think twice about who you are going to build with before choosing them, the experience was horrific. read more

We walked into the model and knew we found her new house! The building process was great! The MJC staff was very helpful and very informative. They answered every single question (and we had a lot of questions) we had and they wanted to make sure we were happy. They kept us Informed during the building process. My mom has been in her house almost a year and she is so proud of her new home! She has had a great experience with any warranty issue. We have experienced multiple warranty issues since we moved in. All the minor issues were resolved although with some it took multiple service request. Several times the superintendent would say " that is the way it is, you just have to live with this". Those words were far windows that are very hard to slide and even harder to latch closed and for water going behind the gutter or over the gutter completely. Both completely unacceptable. They have stalled on repairs and put us off time after time. And We have saved all the emails and letters. WARNING if you buy with MJC save everything and stay on top of them until you are satisfied. also make sure they are fixing items correct they frequently tried shortcuts to make something appear fixed. We recently moved into our new house and could not be happier. While the house was being built I was able to stop in quite often and talk with the contractors (I was that guy).They all had good things to say about MJC over some other builders and the quality that they put into the house, even the things they do behind the walls that I would never know about. I was also impressed that during the build the site was always clean and organized which could not be said for some of the others builders in my sub. The few issues that I have had haven't even been an issue, they had a response the same day and took care of the situation without hesitation or argument. I could tell during the build that I was getting a quality house, the customer service and desire to make it right is what truly exceeded my expectations. read more
