OMG! This is a must do! We ended up doing the turtle and the blow fish AND getting a chandelier for our dining room table (15% off). The private lessons in glass blowing was the clincher. My husband made the turtle - expensive, but worth the two experts it took to make it. I made the blow fish. The experience was unbelievable. My husband thought we were going to watch them make our artwork and could not understand why we needed to wear shoes and cotton. To his surprise, we were thoroughly engaged. It was beyond amazing and a "HAVE TO DO". Thank you, Louis and T-bone. I was most concerned about safety and the heat. They were very good about safety and explained everything. Booked a glass blowing class for my Hubby's birthday so he could create a Christmas ornament to hand down to our daughter and start a family tradition. It was easy to book online and we were given instructions to wear cotton clothing and close toed shoes, so Hubby was prepared when he arrived. It is a large open air building at the start of the Pali Ridge overpass with free parking and a rest room. Ryan greeted us when we booked in and showed us around the store with items he and the crew had made, including jewelry, bathroom sinks, sculptures that light up at night, whale tails, fish and a myriad rainbow of other items. You get 15% off if you buy something on the day of your class. Then you get the intro regarding what you booked and what you are making. Ryan tempts you to add on extras and upgrades and it can be costly so be aware of your final figure if you have a budget. Hubbs was excited for this class as I had a glass blowing class with our daughter previously in CA and we loved it. He was greeted by his teacher (great guy with a well developed sense of humour) and they got straight down to it, picking and mixing glass colours, explaining and trying equipment, and making the actual ornament. It is a really enjoyable experience and tricky at times but Hubby aced it with professional guidance and our Christmas bauble was born, ready for the tree and to pass down through the family :) You leave your glass object overnight to cool and collect it the next day, or they can ship it for you if you don't have time. Hubbs really enjoyed every minute of this class and may try it again to make a whale tail which uses more techniques (the fish uses the most). It is expensive but worth it as you create something unique, with your preferred colours, and you get bragging rights ;) Hopefully Ryan will start offering Kamaaina rates to encourage more locals to have a go. PS. If you stop by you can watch the glass blowing professionals and classes for free so you can see what you are missing. Exciting with so many furnaces and red molten glass and pieces being created right in front of you. All that plus free parking! read more

We took a glassblowing lesson at Moana Glass during our trip in Maui. We had a super fun time and got to bring back a beautiful, handmade keepsake! They were directly affected by the Lahaina fire, lost their gallery, and had to repair their workshop due to the smoke damage. They are back up and running again and would be a fantastic place for you to support. Adam did a good job convincing us that we should make the fish sculpture and we're glad that we decided to do that because we got to see (and try) a bunch of cool techniques. You get to pick out the colors that you want and they'll give you some protective eye glasses to put on. Make sure you come wearing fully closed toed shoes and cotton clothing. They let you engrave 2 letters or 2 numbers to the bottom of your sculpture. Our glass blowing instructor Paul was very skilled and entertaining. He did a great job guiding us through the different steps and making sure our fish came out looking fantastic. The glass that you make can be taken home after 3 PM the next day (they will bubble wrap it for you), or they have an option to ship it. Definitely recommend this glassblowing experience as a meaningful way to give back to the businesses in Lahaina. Go check them out! read more

We chose to make our own blown glass art piece, and the experience was amazing! The trained expert staff of artisans guide and assist you the entire process from beginning to end. Neither my wife or I are artists of any kind but with Paul's help we were able to make a really nice blown glass fish in about 45 minutes. Paul took the time to explain each step of the process as we meticulously made our fish from a blob of 2000F+ molten hot glass. After we made our fish it was transferred into a "controlled" cooling kiln to allow the sculpture to cool slowly to prevent thermal cracking. If you are looking for a unique experience which goes beyond your standard art gallery tour you must visit this place. It is located just as you enter Lahaina from the bypass on the right. Worth it. It felt very tailored to the individual and they made sure you made something beautiful while still letting you participate within your skill level. We loved Vito. He was very kind and extremely knowledgeable and seemed to actually like answering all of our annoying questions while he was sweating and carrying something that was 1 billion degrees. It's cool they let you watch for free and you probably would learn a lot from that but actually getting to handle the glass and learn the medium was so special. Then we got to take home such a beautiful piece (thank you Vito for making sure of that.) Let's be honest, it's expensive. But given you're paying for the experience, a professional lesson, and getting to take home a beautiful piece of literal art... that's a great price. Think about whatever an artist's time is worth and that you get to spend one on one time with them and it was not rushed. Then think about all the specialized tools and equipment available to you. The glassblowing class is an absolute trip. Louie took care of us, and was perfectly walking the line between letting us complete each step, but then jumping right in when we were about to run afoul. He saved our piece several times, and the result is amazing. It's 100% worth the $ to do the class - we chose the large vase so that it would be functional. This was one of the best vacation experiences I've had. With the help of a dedicated hands-on instructor, my husband and I together created a gorgeous hand-blown fish, complete with our initials fired under the belly for a memorable keepsake which we will happily display in our home. There is no need for any experience since your instructor will walk through each step and ensure your piece comes out beautifully. I've seen many glass blowing demonstrations in the past but this is the only time I've had the opportunity to try it for myself. It's definitely HOT in the studio but we didn't spend more than an hour from start to finish. It's not cheap but it's an experience you'll remember for a lifetime. read more

Such a fun experience I wish it was a bit cheaper so that it would be more accessible to other people... I think if they get more popular maybe they can implement bigger groups or offer a simpler format to make it more affordable. If it was half the price, god I'd have filled my house with glassware. I wish they had different options to make it feel more special, like can I make my bowl bigger? Or like the vase taller? So it's more usable. I'm just being knit picky... We had a family member visiting and wanted to try a unique and memorable experience. Saw another Yelper post about taking a glass blowing class and they displayed their beautiful one of a kind art piece. Visited the website and was able book a class for our party of 5. They charge by glass piece purchased and usually it's 2 people per piece. So many pieces to choose from both functional and decorative. We decided to make 2 glass fish and since a couple in our group were children they were able to let 3 people work on one glass piece since an adult had to handle the blow torch. You can invite additional people to come watch from a viewing section for free. Our instructor was Gage and he was really patient with explaining the entire process and helped us step by step. It was alot of fun picking the colors for our glass, feeling the heat from the furnace, seeing the glass melt, change colors and blow the glass into beautiful works of art. Using the different tools to pull the glass into the fins and blow torching to imprint the eyes and our initials was a lot of fun. Although the class was a little pricey, the experience is memorable and the art itself was priceless. I would bring other friends and family in the future. It would be nice if they offered a kama'aina discount for repeat customers. read more

Super friendly staff! Got to meet Ryan who was pulling some glass for his masterpieces. My family worked with Tyler who seemed to really like what he does and has a lot of experience. East to talk with and able to answer our questions. His instructions were calm and clear and we had enough hands on time to really say we made something! He taught us the techniques needed to create our pieces. My fish actually looked like a fish; I thought it would be a blob of glass I could use as a paperweight! Another one of us made a starfish. It was nicely done and unique in its design. And another made a globe of glass with pretty purple colors, which was the quickest of the three to make. We were on our honeymoon and decided to have a unique experience while staying in Ka'anapali. Our glassblower's name we think was Mike. It's our bad memory, he introduced himself and was super nice!the experience itself was super fun, Mike was super knowledgeable and helpful. We were dumb (me in particular) and did not read the email they sent me the day before our experience. You need close-toed shoes and they recommend cotton clothing, we showed up with neither the great thing is that Moana Glass expects this and they had shoes and socks for us to wear during the experience! This is a huge plus when you're in a tourist destination. The reason we think it's important to leave 3 stars despite the great experience was the end. The owner (Ryan?) followed us around step by step in his shop as we looked at the very expensive peices of glass after our experience. We had just paid $150+ for a 35 min experience and every peice in the store is well over $100. My wife felt very pressured. This is toxic for a small business. If my wife gets the willies and feels pressured by a salesperson (the OWNER no less) than that is something that needs to be addressed. Just like another review on here, we asked for time to make our decision on purchasing something, asking if our "lesson" discount would still be good when we came back the next day to pickup our art, the answer was no and I got a weird, almost aggressive explanation from the owner that he "cannot just GIVE discounts with no end" (as if, if the next day, we would not have been the same people that did the glass blowing lesson???) My advice for the ownership is to realize that no one likes being sold, but everyone likes buying things. Hovering over someone as they make decisions might benefit you 1 in 5 times but then you also get people that walk away with a yucky aggressive sales vibe. That's toxic. I really hope that this message is taken to heart, the rest of the staff were 5 stars, and so was the actual glass making experience. read more
