A short list of disappointments:…read more 1) Fares are not clearly posted or verbalized: our $8 cab ride quickly turned into a $24 fare when at our destination the cabbie pushed a button on the meter that switched to the total. Apparently there is a $4 per person charge for getting in the cab. The fares are posted on a piece of paper that lays flat on the dashboard and isn't visible unless you're in the front seat. Fares should be clearly posted (both passenger-side door and visible once inside). Talking to a different cab driver later we were informed that on game days pretty much every cab company hikes their prices. Great way to prevent drunk driving, Iowa City! 2) The driver couldn't follow basic directions: he didn't know where we were going to begin with, ignored our directions, and refused to finish driving us to our destination. We were going to a tailgate in a university lot - it's not like we asked him to go off-roading or leave the city. 3) The van was in serious disrepair: it was dirty, the lining on the ceiling was hanging down and was torn in spots, and when one of our passengers opened a storage compartment on the armrest they she found moldy food and cigarette butts. Sick. After reaching our destination someone in our group called to tell the dispatcher about our experience and the dispatcher hung up on him mid-sentence. Wow.

The head rests were removed from the seats (even the driver's seat - so unsafe!), the seat cushioning was being held together with cardboard, the van was missing all of it's hub caps... it was just a disaster on wheels. All of this and I thought, well hey at least I'll save a couple pennies. Nope, the fare from Cedar Rapids Airport to the north side of Iowa City was $70 - way wayyy more than the fare I paid Marco's Taxi to get to the airport in the first place (Marco's Taxi offers a flat rate airport fare by the way, it's $40 and an additional $5 if you have a second passenger), and more than double the cost of an Uber. This is simply not a safe choice, nor a cost effective one.

When I caught up to the driver, I knocked on his window to tell him the law only to have him hurl expletives through the window. Don't ride with them because they do not respect others on the road.
