I grew up mooching food out of my iranian best friend's fridge so when i moved to DC and was separated from that refrigerator it was a bit hard on me. Thankfully Moby Dick is around the corner and fulfills my needs. It's my go-to place when there's no food in the fridge (before/after a trip out of town, when moving, etc). ill occasionally get the predictable white-man accessible menu items like falafel and gyro but they're probably the worst things on the menu when compared with the more legit stuff. Generally the food here is pretty solid but tonight I ordered a family platter to be delivered and got a very unpleasant surprise. After consuming a good amount of kabob, my husband and I sank our forks into the rolette we had ordered for dessert just to discover that it was completely spoiled. Like rancid. It was really concerning so I called back to let them know and I was informed that they KNEW something was wrong with the cream filling but weren't sure which of the rolettes were affected and which weren't so instead of THROWING out the whole batch they continued to serve them. Wow. I love my persian peeps but the health department ain't down with that shadiness. Ughhh. It will be a long while before I can eat another rolette! read more

I love this restaurant! The food is so delicious and filling. The chicken especially is grilled to perfection, juicy, and flavorful. The rice is also amazing, and I love the pita bread and the ground beef. You get a nice big serving of food for a reasonable price. There's also an attached shop selling a lovely array of traditional Mediterranean/Middle Eastern/Iranian goods for very reasonable prices (and the staff person working there is happy to explain things and make recommendations - he even invited translated something on the package in Farsi for us). . read more

The food is tasty, but the protein portions are stingy. I ordered the bone in chicken over rice. I remembered it as a reasonable portion, but what I got was five tiny nubbin, one or two of which looked like somebody cut off the tip of a wing or a drumstick. I doubt that all the meat was more than a 7-11 wing. read more

We like the food, but EVERY time we order delivery, there's a problem and it takes well over an hour. Whomever answers the phone is always full of excuses, they mixed up the address, the store is busy, etc., hear the same ones each time it happens. I love Moby Dick!! I'm half Middle Eastern..and so I go to many good Middle Eastern restuarants but Moby Dick is has good food and its inexpensive! I tend to get the same thing everytime which is the Chicken Sandwich with yogurt. I ask for an extra yogurt because one little cup of it isnt enough..the chicken sandwich is huge..usually I dont finish it at once, but I think its delicious. I think mostly everything on the menu is under $10 but not 100% sure because I get the same thing everytime. The chicken sandwich is only $7! read more

I love me some Chicken Joojeh! We come here for lunch sometimes and I find the food to be delicious. The service is kinda meh, but it's not enough of a deal breaker for me. The naan is wonderful and I love the cucumber sauce that you get on the side. I also really like the rice, and I'm a bit of a rice snob. If you want to get take out, I suggest you call it in, as sometimes it can get busy. If you have time, eating in is not bad either because there's plenty of seating. read more

Great place for a mid-week take home dinner. We usually go for Combo 2 which is excellent. My kids love it as well. An odd name for a very solid straight up Persian kabob chain. Having lived a fair part of my life in Los Angeles, I have been to many, many very good Persian (Iranian) restaurants/eateries from hole-in-the-wall buffets to fine dining. Moby Dick is no joke. Both the kubideh (ground beef kabob) and joojeh (boneless chicken) are spiced right on. I'm all about the platters here. The the rice is the super long grain you get uniquely at Persian restaurants. I love the mustomooser (shallots and yogurt) - a highly recommended extra to your order. The nan is cooked fresh. I wish you didn't have to request the fresh onion and parsley/watercress, it should just come with your platter, as it's easy to forget, especially when ordering delivery; and (not "or") and you should be getting that along with a small musto Kheyar (cucumber yogurt). I also wish the platter came with some Shirazi salad, the salsa-like mix of chopped onions, tomatoes, and cucumbers. But those are small things. All in all, Moby Dick is my reliable go-to when I want a fix. If you don't know much about Persian food, I recommend you go several times and try everything over time. And there is nothing wrong with making some Persian friends either to help you out. You'll love it. read more

Oh Moby's, how I WISH you were in Baltimore. We went to this branch about a month ago and got take out from it two weeks ago, while visiting different friends/relatives. The service was superb. The kebabs were delicious. In particular, the chicken kebab (kebab e joojeh) was sensational. Flavorful. Delicious. The rice was superb. The bread was fluffy and the yogurt sauce + bread+ chicken+pickled garlic is one of the most delicious mini sandwiches you can make. Hubbie had the lamb kebab and seemed to like it. We were given a piece of the tahdig, which was a nice surprise. Even our one-year-old baby blissed out on chicken & rice and the roasted tomatoes. A friend of mine summed up his Moby's experience as the "best kebabs outside of Lahore." I've never been to Lahore so I can't speak to its veracity, but Moby's consistently is the best kebabs I've found anywhere. read more

This is our go-to place for a delicious, quick, and very reasonably priced meal. The kubideh is amazing -- everyone we take here loves it. The manager is so friendly and everyone is very helpful. Our kids have always loved their kubideh, joojeh, rice, and bread, even during the picky eating stages. And, they enjoy watching the great bread being made. I'm so grateful for the restaurant when we want to eat out or just grab and go. I should have written this long ago, because we've been loving this restaurant for years. We like this place well enough, but the biggest problem for us is the grouchy manager. The front register people are nice enough, but he hovers and glowers. I can't tell you how many times we've been in the area and said, "Well, maybe Moby Dick. Naaaawww. I don't want to deal with that guy." I mean he makes you feel like he's doing you a big favor that he really hates. I don't know if he's disgruntled with his job or what. The food is okay.
