Call me Ishmael! I've long wandered the resturant seas much like Melville's narrator. We were recommended to try this fine establishment by a local while visiting the Hendersonville area. The resturant has a fine view of the lake in Hendersonville. It features a large sized covered patio with bar for outdoor dining. The patio has heaters. The inside is nice as well with a nautical theme. The menu is largely seafood, however, they have steaks and burgers as well. Very nice appetizers and drinks are available. I found the pricing to be reasonable. The quality of the food was outstanding and fresh. It was well prepared and served with nice presentation by an attentive wait staff. This is a great place that I suspect the locals are keeping for their own. It's worth the trip to go to Moby Dickys. Well done Ahab!! It is always fun when you come upon a place as neat as Moby Dicky's. This was part of a "I need to get out of the house and explore" weekend and a place I had thought about hitting a long time ago. Moby Dicky's sits on Old Hickory Lake in Hendersonville, just south of the main drag. There are three restaurants with some sort of water view down Sanders Ferry Road: The Lyncoya Cafe, which overlooks the main road and a pretty nasty bog area; Sanders Ferry Pizza and Pub, which has a porch with picnic tables, and Moby Dicky's, which sits on a hill overlooking the inlet. Atmosphere? Reminds me of a beach place more than a place on a lake in Tennessee. Very low key atmosphere with brightly colored, but slightly faded, walls (see pictures). We came in and asked about outdoor seats (limited) and saw there were seats at the bar, so popped a squat there instead. We sat and has conversations with different locals who rotated into the place as we were having drinks and dinner. Service? Ryan, our bartender (has worked here since shortly after opening) did an excellent job. No complaints. Food? A shining star. My friend had the shrimp & grits. I can't vouchfor them, as I have a shrimp allergy, but got a thumb's up from her. The Frenched Grilled Pork Chop I had was excellent, as was the elliote (Mexican corn) I got as a side. Drinks? I grabbed a beer but got to sample a few that she tried. Of the various drinks, the Pelican Punch was the least favorite, and the Peached Whale the fave. Had we stuck around, I am certain she would have considered getting every single drink on the menu. Overall? If I lived in Hendersonville, this would be a regular haunt for me. I love the outdoor bar, the bartender, and the locals. As it stands, I will likely make a trek up again sometime to chill out on the river. read more

We came into Moby Dicky's last week and enjoyed the whole experience. The drinks from the bar started us all off with some great cocktails. We then were seated over to the rear of restaurant where there is just a fantastic view of the river. Our waiter came and we all ordered our food and enjoyed that great view and the ambiance of the restaurant which was just great. I ordered the fish and chips, and my wife had the shrimp and grits. There was an assortment of food at our table and everyone was completely satisfied. I will definitely come back to Moby Dicky's when I am back in Hendersonville. read more

I've been craving a good bowl of clam chowder (which has been hard to find in vegas!). This place did not disappoint!!! Their seafood met my expectations & beyond. The calamari was crispy & flavorful, the fish & chips is such a hearty portion I had a good amount of leftovers to take home. Clam chowder 10/10!! Everything was sooooo good! I was extremely disappointed tonight. We had always had good food at Moby Dickeys. Not tonight. I ordered a 12 oz. ribeye, medium rare. What I was served was a poor sirloin steak or an awful ribeye. The steak was perfectly cooked, but it was tough, full of gristle and connective tissue, and had very little fat. I have better steaks in my freezer at home. Upon my complaint, the kitchen said nobody else complained and there was nothing wrong with the steak. Without looking at it, the kitchen was able to determine the quality of my steak. Amazing. I've eaten here 3 times in the last month so that alone is worth a mention lol. They have the best covered patio with a gorgeous view. Even on rainy days they have screens to stop the rain but not that view. We've tried the seared tuna tacos, grilled snapper, fish sandwich and the filet (my personal favorite). Parking can be a bit tricky on the weekend, but manageable. I love having to wait for a table while suffering through a glass of wine watching the ducks, geese and herons on the water. read more

Oh man! If I lived in Hendersonville Tn, this would be my local watering hole! What a great bar on the lake. There's a small dock to anchor your boat to. Great view! Lots of TV's and the food was great! I had the Chicago oysters and smoked fish dip! Delicious! The Moby Mary was a great start to the day. Our bartender Ryan was awesome! He saved my friend from a "killer caterpillar!" We called him the caterpillar whisperer! Now we only came in for a short stint from vegas, and I don't know if they do, but a I think a great addition would be some live music there. Small acoustic jams. Also, the grass area would be a great place for some grass volleyball tournaments. All just my opinions but would be great additions if possible! This was a cool place overlooking the water. It's actually a lot bigger than I expected it to be. Their menu has a lot of seafood so I knew it would be a win. The outside part of the restaurant is covered, but ducks are frequent visitors. We got there around 4:30 and sat at the bar, as our wait was about 30 minutes, but once seated at our table, service was fast and friendly. Onto the food: for apps we had drunken shrimp and Chicago-style oysters and lobster bisque. The drunken shrimp was delicious, and the sauce alone was amazing. The baked oysters were cheesy and garlicky--very tasty. The bisque was creamy and had shredded bits of lobster. It was so good! For mains, I had lobster ravioli with a side of street corn. It was creamy and delicious, and the street corn had a good char to it. My husband had the grouper with street corn side as well. It was really good also. We ate here on Father's Day and it was packed! (Of course) We expected it would be busy and arrived early to be sure our wait wouldn't be too long. We waited about 25 minutes and then were shown to a table overlooking the water. It was a beautiful day so this added to the experience. Our server, Jacklyn, (hope I have the spelling right!) was outstanding! She took our drink order immediately and our glasses were never empty! She brought out some hot fresh appetizers we requested quickly and took our entree orders. She was polite, professional, very friendly and helpful, and just a really nice person. She even offered to snap some photos of us so we could have a nice memory of the day! The food was very good. We really enjoyed the appetizers (giant pretzel and some really good fries) and the entrees were great too. My wife had a teriyaki chicken dish and raved about it. I had a ribeye with loaded street corn and my daughter had a shrimp platter. It was all delicious and cooked to order. We didn't have any alcohol but each had a soft drink. Total bill was about $100.00 not including tip. Jacklyn suggested the loaded street corn and it was excellent! Give it a try!
