This is my favorite place to study. It's cute, quiet, has very welcoming staff, and very tasty drinks and food. There's also many different options to sit from comfy couches to a convenient desk to work at. There are also outlets through the room so you can plug in your laptop if you need to. I've just been through the drive thru at Mocha Express. The service is fast and friendly! Coffee prices are reasonable! Plus, they have your basic carb/pastry necessities if you need a snack with your brew! Today I mentioned to the normal guy who works the drive thru that I was headed to the Oregon Food Bank to volunteer and he gave me a huge unopened box of snack bars to donate! Mocha Express is the bane of my existence. For years upon years I have patronized the drive up coffee window, and truth be told I should know better. The problem here is not the prices which are high, its not the barista's which are young cute teenage girls who really are not barista's at all but are "coffee makers". The problem is the coffee . Mocha Express' coffee is so weak, so flavorless and bland it makes Folgers sounds appealing. They charge $.75 cents more for any size of espresso drink than any other coffee shop, and they use less shots. A 16oz triple latte will cost you near to 4 dollars and taste like milky water. I have been fooled by the " eagle vision" espresso, not in an attempt to get wired but on my endless pursuit of a flavorful drink and I can surely tell you this gimmick (.50 cents extra, plus.50 cents more for a third shot) does nothing to up the anti. When its raining, and my son is snoozing in the back seat, and Im on 82nd and want something hot to drink I need to remember that a few blocks further south there is the Sbux at Fu Bonn. Which although their coffee sucks too at least it tastes like something! read more

I've been to 3 out of the four locations, but N 82nd is my primary. Coffee is always great. Majed (sp?) is always good for a quick chat and great way to start my morning. I know it is all brothers that own the string of them, and I have been treated well at all of them. I would recommend this place to anyone. I reluctantly agree with the consensus on the coffee/food quality, but the staff here are really really friendly and sweet and at least pretend to understand my sense of humor which I appreciate. This place is a joke.. ok first, a tanning salon inside a coffee shop? Is that even a thing? The coffee straight tastes like ass. It is just weak espresso and luke warm milk in a paper cup. The middleaged man behind the counter was so cold and unwelcoming. I also got a muffin, heated up in a microwave with plastic on the top of it, they didn't even tell me they were warming it up, I love melted platic on my food! Un-willingly I gave them a second shot when I was in a hurry on Powell. This time at one of there drive thru stands. I asked the young girl for tea, she admitted that she doesn't make the tea much. I thought that was odd, there were so many boxes of teas on display. The tea must have been up there for years because it had absolutely no flavor, it just tasted like heated up water. I came back and told the girl. She was so sweet and apologized for the incovenience, offered to make me another drink free of charge. Looks like the issues in this place are with the management, the employees know what kind of shit show they are working with. read more

Since they want to deal with wish customers I guess they're going to deal with wish reviews. Don't buy anything from this pickup location if you expect actually get it. I bought a very expensive backpack from wish on a free pickup location from this location and they sold it out from underneath me to somebody else. And when I went to pick it up my QR code said that I picked it up tomorrow. How is that possible? How can I pick up an item on a day that has never occurred yet? What happened is that you guys sold my item out from underneath me to somebody else. Quit blaming a junk system on wish.com and start taking responsibility for the items that you have listed for customers. If somebody buys something, you don't sell it to somebody else as well. Bad business practices equals business loss. I drove all the way from Washington to pick this up and I am disabled which means that it takes me extra effort, extra time and extra gas money to get over there and pick something up that doesn't exist because you sold it to somebody else!!! I had until December 17th to pick it up. You couldn't wait that long and had to sell it to somebody else before then even though I already paid for it? I don't even know what to say at this point because I'm fed up with the local pickup spots because this isn't the first time that a retailer has sold my stuff out from underneath me to somebody else because retailers refuse to figure out a system for themselves for checks and balances. For future reference, if you sell something to a CUSTOMER, do not sell it to somebody else. EVER! And you wouldn't be getting a review on Yelp if you had a voice mail system for your phone number listed on Google. Once again, no checks and balances just empty promises and money taken. You're going to remember this review because you're going to remember the impact that it made on a disabled person for you to do this to me. It was my main Christmas gift to my brother and you sold it to somebody else and now I have nothing for him and no time for anything to be shipped for the same price or quality. You guys should be ashamed of yourselves. I would say Merry Christmas but I'm not feeling very happy right now and neither will my brother when he has no Christmas gift to open up because you screwed me over. Very nice and comfy coffee shop, I love the snickers mocha and chai tea latte. And they really take care of there customers. The only shop makes a Mocha Shake with real ice cream, I love it. I encourage every one to visit Mocha Express to get a real coffee drink. read more

The best in town! I agree with the other positive poster, too many Yelps "appear" manufactured or clearly not a customer. One point, the Costco muffin claim; made up! I have been there when the pastry vendor arrives. Being a native of Mt Tabor area, I have watched the location grow from the former Taco Express to the current name. I appreciate locally owned business and I support local coffee shops and restaurants. As far as the posters claim of being a front for a tanning Solon, the tanning was an after thought, utilizing open space. I tried Mocha Express 4 times and was disappointed each time. First time I bought drip coffee. It was weak and not very hot. Second time I ordered a Latte. It was more like warm milk than a hot Latte. Third time I ordered an Americano. It was a little weak but hot and tasted pretty good. So the fourth time I ordered a double shot Americano but they gave me drip. Weak, lukewarm drip. Their staff was friendly but their product quality stinks. And I prefer to get what I ask/pay for. Wife went to pick up a quick americano since we were out of coffee. They won't take a credit/debit card if the order is under $3 so she was forced to buy something else to be able to use the card. I haven't had this at any coffee place in Portland. If you think about it, it is a smart way for the owners to make some extra $$$ since not many people have cash on them. I am really surprised about some of the reviews especially when the say the staff are rude. The staff are super nice and many times are making drinks as they look up my information for tanning. This is the only tanning place that I have ever gone to that doesn't up sell you at every chance they get. The staff have educated me on products, etc. but they even say that it is each individuals decision. They don't make you feel like you are stupid or can't tan without their products. Great place and I only wish that I lived closer to it so I could actually hang out, use the wi-fi and drink coffee all day. read more

What I ordered didn't even come close to resembling an Americano, it's immediately obvious that these guys are only in for the money. The coffee is flavorless and watered down. They dont allow customers to add milk or sugar, all is done behind the counter by the overworked staff trying to multitask while filling drive thru orders. Nothing but paper cups ( even if you ask "for here") equals a lukewarm cup in minutes. Not to mention being awfully wasteful. Charge to use computers. No music inside whatsoever. When I went there, the sign out front was boasting a special on hot chocolate. i tried to get one for my daughter but the barista said that was over with. Cheap costco muffins and a tanning room upstairs. If you are having a hard time picturing all of this, think Motel 6 goes in on a drive thru coffee business venture with Castle superstore. However, if you want a good chuckle, i do recommend checking out their website. I visit Mocha express 2 or 3 times a week. Im not saying it is the best coffee, but I would say it is better than Starbucks and about 30% less expensive. The people are friendly that work there, and i do know that since they are on 82nd and a bunch of free loaders around, they do want you to buy something to come in. they have comfortable furniture and dont want people to just come in sit down and use the internet all day without buying anything. I have really bad skin so I purchased the tanning package for $100 this summer. I have never been an avid tanner and was recommended this for my skin. I purchased this package from the girl in the Drive-Thru and she wrote on the back it expired in one year. I used it once and I came back a few months later to use it and the owner told me they have no record of it. I told them to look into it compare the signatures from the girls and I even encourage them to take my picture with a cell phone which they did. He says he looked into it and could not find any record of my purchase. That is not my fault as I like to support local businesses and that is why I chose this place. Instead of admitting the businesses mistake of not keeping a record, he chose 2 give me one of two options. Either he would honor two more tans out of the eight or nine that I had left on the card or none at all. I was thoroughly disgusted with this so I told him none at all. This business stole my money. The owner is sleazy, arrogant, and not customer first. You guys really left a bad taste in my mouth. Do not go here. read more

Since the closing of Jamba Juice in Eastport Plaza I have taken up getting a smoothie at this Mocha drive thru. The smoothie is fair enough since its close and convienent, dont have to walk in with my toddlers. Had a frap once that was watery and not tasteful. The building is reasonable and I am sure the complmentary wifi is nice to have. tanning? No thanks. However what bothers me is the way that every time I go there the owner, or I should say I assume he is the owner, is always hovering his employees. I have received satisfactory service from everyone but him. It is a real turn off to go somewhere and watch that, I was once a barista and if my boss did that I would walk right out the door . Is he really so worried that someone is going to be dishonest? Or is it being too cheap to hire a back up, or perhaps he has a hard time keeping employees? Also today when I went thru the drive thru, unfortunatly he was there alone. He seems to be polite and friendly but in a fake way. I asked for two extra cups with lids so I can share my smoothie with my toddlers and even though he did not charge me, but he indicated he normally would, he acted so put out. I was not asking for a free handout, I am aware it may cost. Also when I was ordering I planned on ordering some pasteries or something to snack, but he cut me off after I ordered the smoothie, so forget it. Also had to wait too long for the smoothie. Really I think I will just make the extra effort and hit up the Jamba on102nd from now on for some real quality and service. Sorry to be so harsh, I am not really trying to detour anyone away from there, but honesty can be brutal. I just have higher expectations and appriciate being treated respectfully. read more
