When a friend tells you they've never tried boba before, you gotta try it. It's always so funny to see their face when they take the first sip. I stopped by this place after lunch for a "sweet treat" in beverage form. I got the coffee boba for a little hit of caffeine. They were quite busy, but the boba came out quick. Prices are $5-6 ish. I did not try food, but it looks like they have sandwiches and bagels. The interior is a little quirky with a raised seating area next to the window and game tables for chess, checkers, etc. It felt a little crowded/chaotic, and I didn't love the beta fish in the plant pots. People seem to really love this spot. I thought it was okay. The boba was totally normal. Which, don't get me wrong, I enjoy normal boba, but it didn't blow my mind.

Quick & friendly service. Cute space with lots of plants & artwork like stickers, charms, plushies, etc for sale. Ordered a winter melon iced milk tea with tapioca pearls. Tea was good but a little overly sweet, I would ask for less sugar next time. Tapioca pearls were perfectly cooked. Not hard & has the perfect chew. The tapioca is what makes or breaks a boba tea drink for me & Fat Straw seems to have the texture down! Overall, a cute little boba tea shop with good service & good tea. Would definitely recommend & return! Took off a star because while it's good, it's nothing mind blowing as far as menu items go. Pretty average run of the mill tea and topping options.

Stumbled in a hot day and I've been addicted ever since. This place is incredible. Their selection of Boba and flavors for smoothies is unreal. My favorite flavor of smoothie is the lychee and passionfruit. If you're into Boba or smoothies this place is a gold mine.

This place has such a cute aesthetic and a ton of drinks to choose from. The staff are very friendly and I've never had a bad drink from here. One of the best boba shops in Portland!

I'll be honest - when we walked in front of the store and saw the menu we immediately thought that there was no way the milk tea here could be any good, given that it seemed that Fat Straw focused on artificially flavored drinks instead of tea. We decided to give it a chance and got one drink: Original Milk Tea, 50% Sweet w/ Boba ($6.75) - Pretty interesting how they make the drink. Instead of prebrewed tea in drink dispensers, as in a typical boba shop, they have buckets of prebrewed tea and boba in a fridge and they ladle the contents into your cup. Half sweetness is a bit less sweet than other places and really allows the black tea taste to come through. The tea quality is not the best, but good enough for the drink. The boba here is almost, but not quite, the perfect texture. It's a larger brand of boba in terms of size, it has a softer exterior but still maintains structural integrity. The exterior texture is to the point where if you slide your teeth across the topmost layer with a bit of force, the very topmost layer kind of sloughs off. You then get to a nice chewy interior as you bite into it. The sugar syrup soak introduces an additional bit of sweetness in the drink. I'm glad we gave Fat Straw a chance because it turned out to be much better than we thought. The boba was missing just a bit of the bounciness of what I consider perfect and the tea isn't the highest quality, but overall, I consider Fat Straw in the top quartile of places I've been to.

Jasmine Vegan Milk Tea and Mango Ice Green Tea! Just a tiny bit annoyed that my drink wasn't filled to the top.

not open during covid-19 - I ordered the JASMIN milk tea with tapioca pearls and mango green tea with lychee jelly. I'm kind of upset that my drink wasn't filled to the top because I feel like this was a significant amount missing and I didn't ask for light ice :(

Great prices, fast service. The location has a fair amount of seating, along with a side walk seating area out front. I thought the stainless steel boba straw was cool. Hemp milk latte was weird/bitter. Not sure if that's a hemp milk thing or a Fat Straw thing.

I never had a bubble tea before and I will say it was better than amazing - it was spectacular - omg I had a black tea with grapefruit and some coconut gummies it it! I'm sold on this place Ronn just Ronn The hole in the wall food guy

Lots of people hanging out in the shop, some working, some talking, but it seemed like a good spot to get some stuff done. There was music playing that set a welcoming mood. Overall, highly recommend if you enjoy flavored lattes.

Maaaaaaybe my new favorite coffee shop!…read more I had been to their other location but for some sad reason never made it here. Located on Hawthorne just past the curve at 50th, they've got plenty of free street parking in the nearby blocks. They don't have much external signage but they do have a lot of outdoor streetside seating, so it makes you wonder what everyone else knows. Inside, they've got Coava coffee, efficient staff, and an old-school cafe vibe. With multiple couches (one of my main criteria for a coffee shop) and free wifi, this is a place to work, meet people, and slow down. Great long hours - they're open 6am-6pm.

The intentions were genuine and things have progressed in a way where Albina Press is one of the most recognized coffee brands in the city. It's not too dissimilar from its OG sister location in North Portland (#3), where they still brew high quality caffeinated drinks with the vibes of a homey communal space with chairs, couches, and individual tables for a proper coffee date, WFH worthy WiFi, and plenty of anti-war propaganda in the self-serve water area in the back. The latte art was on point, the cold brew was most definitely strong, cafe au lait was milky and foamy in the best way, and the americano drinks were fabulous. While their hours (#4) aren't particularly suited for after-work hours, they do an excellent job of keeping their space clean and the vibes low key throughout the morning and afternoon. Prices are good for Portland standards. Most drinks are $5 and under, even for the largest sizes. The limited but high quality pastry selection is also appreciated. The service was good overall, just be certain with the order and don't be afraid to ask for recommendations. Lines can happen, albeit rarely, and I would encourage most folks to drink the coffee on the spot. The space is part of the experience (be weary of the restrooms tho), so enjoy the low key ambiance with a drinkable jumpstart to the day. Their shop is very curated and is definitely has a "recently here because of gentrification vibe." However, I know it's been in Portland for a while and locals swear by it. With shops like these I find it easy to focus and work. The minimalist and industrial decor is a great place for adhd brains like mine. I was warmly greeted by someone at the register. I was interested in so many choices on their matcha. Horchata iced coffe, orange latte, strawberry Ube matcha. I asked the barista if they do exchanges or remakes for drink if the customer dislikes what they ordered. She mentioned they have a NO REMAKES policy. I knew it was time to lock in instead of trying something Willynilly. She was super patient with me as I wondered what to get and discussed my hesitations. She let me sample a tiny amount of the strawberry uber syrup and lavender to make my decision and it helped. I ended up getting and iced lavender matcha and didn't regret it at all. It's been hard for me to find good matcha in Portland and they didn't disappoint. The syrup was blended in well. The flavor of the matcha wasn't too grassy, bitter or powdery. I'm sad it's a seasonal drink because I'll Miss it. I also got an almond croissant, which was good but not mind blowing. I think I'll try the banana bread next time. They have a bathroom, 1 booth, bench seating and wall seating. It would be a bit of a challenge to bring a group larger than 3 here as they're small and busy. Maybe if you sat outside.
