I ordered a Fresh fruit very berry smoothie (with whole milk non fat yogurt) and their special hot mocha to go. Chill music and various seating indoors (finally made it inside). I ordered a medium blended passionfruit coconut bubble tea with honey boba and whip. what I got was a medium very noticeably watered down blended drink with very little flavor or sweetness and the boba was completely flavorless like eating straight tapioca flour with zero honey flavor and zero sweetness, no coconut flavor at all, and the boba was chewy in a not so good way as if it was too hard in the center . The whip cream which I had to ask for again at the window because he forgot it was the only part about this drink that was okay, and he didn't even cover the top of the drink with it he barely added any whip cream. Ive never had a boba drink that was this terrible in my life. I actually couldn't even drink it and I paid over 8 dollars for it. Completely unsatisfied customer here. This is a strange coffee shop to say the least. It's a weird mixture of many different things combined together. Maybe it has to do with the fact that they have a tanning booth upstairs. They have some toys, some beach things, treats, coffee, smoothies, food, Arab food you name it. I don't the place had changed since it opened, and it shows. Even the cash register is from the stone age. The parking lot is weird too. The exit is the drive through line, and if a car is there, you kinda have to go against traffic. *drumroll* DRIVE THRU BOBA. !!!!!!! We came to this place once back in December and we absolutely loved it! Then we tried coming again and we didn't find it.... so now it's the end of April maybe it's because we always crave snacks when it gets darker.. (can't read signs?) Anyway we were convinced that this place was made up.. and we never actually visited a drive thru boba.. Then out of nowhere-- we were driving down 82nd in the daytime and saw our spot again! Drive thru boba! The best boba/smoothies ever and the tapioca is so fresh!!! Absolutely convenient and delicious. This place creates quality drinks! I was quite unpleasantly surprised when I got the breakfast panini and how small it was for 12 bucks the coffee is delicious however.

Service was great. Mocha Frappuccino and a Costco muffin. Tipped the bill. Tried to call a couple of times to warn them about their Costco muffins. The entire bottom of the muffin was moldy. No one answered the phone. Unfortunately the food needs some care. read more

This place just makes me smile. In some ways it feels like a no-nonsense, deeply human antithesis of all of the new ultra hip coffee joints that pepper Portland. The interior is cozy and dated in an endearing way--they've been at this location for over 27 years! The chatter between regulars and the owner is warm, and there's plenty of space to hunker down and get some work done (and a few plugs for laptops). Note: They close at 8pm, which is nice since many other places around close up shop at 5pm. Whether you're feeling coffee, bubble tea, a smoothie, or a delightfully eclectic assortment of pastries and convenience-store-like items (I bought a small bag of Doritos with my bubble tea for an extra dollar), they've got it. They don't offer full cafe food items, but it does say "coming soon" for some Mediterranean dishes. This is our go to neighborhood spot for good coffee and friendly service. Magid is very nice, we always have nice chats and he seems to really care about the community. The coffee is great and the smoothies are fresh fruit, no extra sugar, which is nice for the kiddos. If I could I'd give them 10stars I would. read more

That Taro Bubble Tea is seriously to die for- I just tried it today. This is an excellent place to come relax, and a nice, quiet study place if you're a student. The interior is like a cozy home and the service is remarkably inviting and friendly, as each drink is made with its unique style of love It would be worth the visit just to stop by and chat with the Majed, who is sure to brighten your day with his humble kindness and a twenty-five year perfected skill in making you the perfect coffee, just how you like it:) My goal is to try every type of bubble tea there is here! All in all, great coffee shop. Five stars for the espresso they use which is a really solid roast and even their house coffee is superior to most Portland coffee shops. Service is always speedy so really good stop if you are in a hurry. read more

At first it seemed like a odd place for a Tanning salon but upon arriving, I was pleasantly surprised with how nice & convenient this place was. A coffee shop downstairs & their private & CLEAN tanning beds upstairs. Very sweet & helpful girl working the counter. She answered all of our questions & was more then helpful. Great place to relax and enjoy excellent coffee and drinks . Prompt ,friendly service and roomy lobby with tables and comfortable chairs . Computers and internet access available. Good place to do work on your laptop, do school work , meet with business associates , or just hang out and relax . Small food menu is also available. I often use this cafe to meet students that I tutor in math and physics. Nice quiet atmosphere for that purpose. read more

Drive through coffee. The coffee is terrible but there is definitely some convenience to not having to get out of your car to get said coffee. The pastries here consist of Costco muffins (by now, everyone has experienced these oversized, Saran-wrapped muffins) that they stick in a microwave and heat up (without being asked to or warning the customer that it's going to happen) thus creating a fairly mushy, warm, irradiated lump of muffin that's been saturated with microwaved plastic fumes. Sounds tasty? Surprise! It's not. This coffee shop is a boon to the overly lazy and those in a great hurry who would just as soon buy coffee at a 7-11 or somewhere similar. This coffee is a let-down if you're a fan of french press, quality beans, or even a nice solid drip made from a good roast. I've never had the espresso, so I can't comment, but I am guessing that if you're the type that's into milkshakes (aka 20 oz foamy mocha/flavored milk creations lightly accented by a shot or 2 of espresso), then you can't really tell the difference anyway so what does it matter? You'll probably be fine with it. Sorry if the owners read this. I know this is a snarky review, but the service I got the last few times I decided to punish myself in this drive thru was pretty brusque, so I guess you're used to hearing stuff like this. One extra star because I feel bad shitting all over a locally owned business, but really, this is a coffee city, and Mocha Express is simply not bringing any game whatsoever. Cheers. read more

The coffee's good, the seating area's comfortable, and the staff are friendly and attentive. Mocha Express, sadly, won't win any awards for being dazzling, outstanding, or exciting, but that's okay. The coffee is a basic, decent brew, the chai is tasty, and the soft chairs are comfortable and perfect. What has always amazed me is that the place has survived in an area where the traffic is pretty much going from there to here, no great reason to stop for much of anything. Where it really stood out was the attentive cashier and barista who made the drinks with a bright smile. There is free wi-fi, but if you don't have a computer, they have five or six computer stations that are free for an hour with purchase of a coffee drink, which makes it a good choice for a quick e-mail check after you finish reading your paper. I have lived next-door to Mocha Express on Southeast 82nd Avenue for almost one year. Now that I am moving out, I am just starting to figure out what's so great about it. PRO Beautiful young girls--usually around early in the morning or late at night. Tanning beds (great during the winter--Vitamin D, that's what I'm talking about). Coffee--cheap, delicious and plentiful. CON No matter how much money you spend here (I have spent rather a lot!) the owner's a stickler about the rules. So BRING MONEY! Cash, as they say, is king. Hate to be a Debby Downer but this place is a joke! As many have pointed out, the coffee is terrible, weak and overpriced. Seriously, you are far better off with 7-Eleven and you will be in and out faster than going through their drive-through. If you arent in a hurry Karma Cafe is just across the street serving my beloved Stumptown. But if you have a sleeping baby in the car as I do alot, Starbucks drive-thru at Fubonn is just 2 blocks down. The 16 year old baristas (who wore mini skirts every time I stoppped by- must be the uniform)that dont know anything about coffee or how to make it, may have something to do with the poor quality. Mocha express is a nice place. I must've walked in at slow hour due to the place being empty. The first thing i noticed was the amount of chairs and tables in the place! It looked like a study hall and it reminded me of a cafe I used to go to in college! I ordered a iced white chocolate mocha and it tasted great!
