This is my first time on the Island so of course I had to try Mocha Mott's on Main St. It was walking distance from where I was staying and I've been back several times. The coffee was acceptable and the service was pretty normal for a quick service place. My first iced coffee was a little on the week side so after that I added a shot of espresso and it was fine. I don't distract from the coffee flavor with dairy or soy and a tiny bit of sweetener made it just right. I enjoyed "the wall of info" and found it entertaining and enlightening. Mocha Motts is always a friendly, fast paced experience. I'm a black coffee drinker so I know a good brew from the first sip. They have a good brand and full line of merchandise that I'm a fan of. Mocha Motts stickers are all over the island and embedded in Vineyard culture. A large black iced coffee is all I needed but was welcomed with some Chocolate covered Espresso beans. I am so surprised by the negative reviews. I really like Mocha's. I've found the coffee to be good, the pastries and food to be good and not particularly overpriced given the island setting. There are a few other options but the place is always buzzing, so I think people must like to come here. While I think the pastries are less outstanding than some other bakeries on the island (including Black Dog), I think they are reliable and solidly good. They also make a few other nice sandwiches and a yogurt parfait. The atmosphere is relaxed but the baristas/counterworkers move things along pretty well. The workers are really helpful - they seem to know their coffee and their grinds and make good recommendations for me. If you ask for what you want at the counter you will probably get it. If you want a stronger coffee, say so and they will give you one! read more

Guess my thought is the place is too small to gripe about another shot of espresso with your coworkers in front of the customer... in a coffee shop. On a sleepy Sunday morning, Mocha Motts is exactly what I need. Just a cup of tea and an asiago bagel with cream cheese served with a smile. It's a great little coffee shop with a friendly staff. There's a variety of pastries and drinks and a couple little tables outside to enjoy the morning. Sure, it can get a bit crowded, but the staff is fast. It hits the spot! read more

I never made it in to Mocha Motta in Vineyard Haven. I heard they had wifi and called to inquire. I work remotely and have a few projects to complete. The wifi in my rental does not work. I called this morning and asked politely if they had wifi. The gentleman yelled at me and said, "We're in the middle of breakfast mam. You'll have to call back later." Asking if coffee shops have wifi is pretty common. I won't be going there. read more

Best mocha ever!!! and the decor!! Their iced black coffee is also strong and refreshing, and a good pick me up in the afternoon (or in the morning, after a hangover). A Friend had their spinach bagel with bacon, eggs, and cheese - I wanted to rip it out of her hands after she offered me a bite!! Mocha Motts is good if you like waiting around five minutes for pretentious hipsters who don't know how to dress to make your coffee and bagel. Every employee there had an attitude or paid no attention to the customers. The bagels are good, and the coffee is forgettable. The only reason I'd go here is because in Vineyard Haven it's the most convenient location and they have outdoor seating, but I used to skip it half the time and go to Cumberland Farms right up the street. The staff is always friendly, and prompt. The baked goods are fresh and tasty, my favorite is the Cranberry Nut Muffin. Drinks are priced about what you would expect for a smaller coffee shop on Martha's Vineyard. All in all Mocha Mortal is worth the time. read more

I tried this place and it was really crowded. There was a dog barking constantly. The bagel with salmon that I ordered tasted strangely and I had to walk almost a mile to a ATM because the one across the street was down and because they only take cash. It was pouring rain and I am disabled so it was not a fun walk. I spoke to the old grey haired woman behind the counter and she wasn't only unapologetic, but she was also smug about it. When I asked if other customers complained about the inconvenience of walking to an ATM, she said "only you!" Plus I noticed the other workers were following suit, each taking a jab at me. They also stared at me after the discussion in intimidating glances. The funny thing is, Martha's Vineyard only has one true industry, which is hospitality....so act like it and at least get a square and a tablet for your customers convenience. Of course they acted like I had no right to an opinion on the matter, just like the old greasy haired lady. Anyway, a lot of businesses feel if they are successful they can easily afford to lose any customer that doesn't kiss their ass. Sadly, a lot of other business owners act that way here too, usually when they think they have a monopoly. I've been on the island 15 years, so I know what I'm talking about. Professionalism and gratitude are never displayed toward people they view as tourists. Their bread n butter. Needles to say, I won't be back to this place. read more

Literally the worst cup of coffee I have ever had. Terrible attitudes at the counter. Inappropriate banter coming from all six employees. Everyone stood around on their phones. Disgusting floor and kitchen visibly not clean. Employees not following any health regulations. No recommended for anyone. I work in the restaurant business and have loads of experience in cafes. Mocha Mott's caffeinated logo is one of the Vineyard's most recognizable symbols- second only to the (in)famous black Labrador retriever. The homegrown cafe with locations in Vineyard Haven and Oak Bluffs is a lazy, funky place to grab a drink and watch the world go by. And having been a resident of this magical island for seventeen years, it's my regular stop. Ok, admittedly some of the more swishy folk may shudder at walking into this place- in Oak Bluffs, it's literally as 'underground' as one can get. But the espresso taste at Mott's is deep, rich and extremely satisfying to the palate. The baristas are really efficient at customizing your beverage to your liking and are very helpful with suggestions if you don't quite know what you're looking for. My personal favorite is their signature hot or iced mocha, the hot version often having its creamy foam appealingly decorated to match the season, such as a pumpkin in fall or a pine tree in winter. As of late they have expanded their drink offerings to iced teas, lemonade and soda concoctions. They have a generous selection of food items that include yummy Cape Cod bagels in many varieties with whipped cream cheese, muffins, breakfast sandwiches, a to-die -for chocolate ganache brownie, and probably the most incredible sticky bun that you have EVER tasted. (The latter is often difficult to find, but worth the hunt.) Prices are what you'd expect to pay on the island (i.e. slightly higher than the mainland) but with the quality being exemplary and the service so good, it's hard to complain. Perhaps the one minor gripe is that it's 'cash only' at the register. There is a selection of touristy items (t-shirts, mugs, beanies, etc.) if you want to wear the famous grin logo, and don't forget to grab a free sticker or two after you leave a tip for your server. Other reviewers have based their discontent of Mott's on a lack of wi-fi, to which I say: not fair. If you judge a cafe on whether or not you can sponge off their internet signal, then you need to get a life. The Vineyard in general is not about work; it's about rest, relaxation and revitalizing your inner spirit. Put away your iPad and enjoy your coffee for a change. Lastly, the Oak Bluffs location is currently closed due to an ongoing issue with the owner of the building, but hopefully it will be reopened before too long. read more

Coffee turned grey when I put cream in it,cashir was surly,and worst of all,the front door has a spring on it, so every time someone entered or left (about every 30 seconds),it slammed like a rifle shot. i won't tank their rating because of a bad experience, but i will make sure i say what i have to. i've been a frequent on my yearly trips for many summers now, and I understand, summer season, restaurant business get busy and hard to keep up with. i get it. but for the love of tourists and locals and 90% of the customers, do not put the employees who cannot speak or understand english at the front of the register taking orders and taking care of front of house duties. as someone who has been in the industry for 5+ years, at a beach summer tourist spot, i understand hiring seasonal employees for summer , but to say to three (3) different people what i'm ordering and being told that the flavor of the day isn't available, yet they write it down and change and say yes, and then mid drink-making having the only english speaking one give me what my "actual" options are, and have to change what i get? and then having to repeat everythingggg , watch them struggle to type it into this dinosaur of a register which , sorry, side note, this place is poppin- nice n busy. upgrade to card payments and get this 1981 register out of here and take care of business the way it should be with how popular you've gotten. anyways, all for my orders to be wrong and the employees being unable to understand what i'm saying made me not even try to complain and get it right. go to the oak bluffs one for better / easier service. pretty disappointed with how this visit turned out :/ read more

Motts is THE go to stop anytime of the day and there's two locations on the island! Quick service, a few spots to sit, community bulletin features local offerings. Artists feature/sell their work on the walls. It can be tough to get a bagel after the breakfast rush, they are shipped daily from Cape Cod Bagel in Falmouth. CASH ONLY. I'm not a coffee drinker but I love the brand of chai they use, and their mouth savoring sausage, egg and cheese burrito with salsa (served only for breakfast). Funky comfortable enjoyable atmosphere. Prices are no different than any other place on the island. Summer 2016 update. This is the "go to" place for my daily iced latte fix. The place is hopping but worth the wait. Everyone is on their A game. Winter 2015: I choose the lattes frequently and sometimes disappointed (watery. No foam). If Scott whips it up - fantastic. Otherwise - bummer. He should give lessons to the rest of the staff. I think I need to just stop ordering if I don't see him behind the counter. Local competitors also have their issues. read more

I personally love coconut so I ordered a coconut iced coffee and a couple treats with my husband. we actually visited twice in the same day. Close walk from where the boat docks. I definitely do not recommend eating here. I am concerned about their treatment of individuals with any sort of eating intolerances. I went in this afternoon and informed them of my severe food allergies, at which point they recommended I not eat there at all. We spoke to the owner, Tim, who said he was "busy" and immediately approached the conversation aggressively and impatiently. If the owner does not have time to speak to his own customers when they have concerns, I find there to be a major problem. I will never attempt to eat here again, and I strongly encourage others to find another coffee shop to visit. read more
