I've tried several mochi donuts in the past, only to feel ho-hum about the texture and flavor. A friend sent over a dozen flavors as a care package while I was sick, and I discovered these are on another level. It might have been the freshness. They were still warm to the touch upon delivery, and the texture was fantastic. Unlike the dense, greasy thick dough that I remembered from past tries, Mochinut's desserts are chewy yet light and airy. They immediately made me think of the French crullers from Dunkin Donuts, my perennial guilty pleasure. A few flavors like the strawberry were a little sweeter than I would've liked, but those were rare. Most of them were surprisingly balanced, even with the icing and toppings. If you're into not-so-sweet desserts, you can't miss the black sesame and taro donuts. The beverages are nicely packaged in a transparent soda-can bottle. There isn't an option to customize amounts of ice, levels of sweetness, or milk types, but they managed to sent my order without ice (my preferred way to order boba teas I plan to enjoy later on in the day). I can't speak to the restaurant or service, but given how well these convinced me to change my mind about mochi donuts, I'll have to make a return trip back. read more

Came here before picking up my Chinese takeout order from Jade, next door. I was in the mood for something sweet and mochi donut sounded good. Bon Epi / Mochinut is such a cute spot with so many good Korean inspired options. They have Korean corn dogs, bubble tea, and mochi donuts, so it's honestly hard to choose. There's also flat croissant with so many flavors. Nutella is the hottest seller. Ok -- there are lots of mochinuts, it's a chain BUT here you get the best customer service. At least I got the best service. She helped us pick out our flavors and reminded us that we get one free after 6! I couldnt find the one thats located in the H Mart in front of Garden state plaza but might as well choose this location. Stop by after a grocery shopping stop and im very happy with my choices. It was my husband's first time trying a mochi donut and he loved it! We chose a random few, i tried the churro, ube fruity pebbles and the coconut all super fresh and soft. The mochi donuts here were not as good as other locations in my experience. The icing seemed to be put on too soon as it was melted on top and had some gaps and the texture of the donut was off as well. it was spongey/squishy instead of having that nice light and airy texture. Delicious donuts, and they have a wide selection of them. The Korean hot dogs are delicious but they take 7 to 10 minutes to finish. Located in a little bit of a strip mall beside the small h Mart and across from the community center, this mochinut includes a small bakery section and does bubble tea as well. While I don't like the bubble tea, the bubbles are too small and hard and the tea is a little too much like Kung Fu tea in earthiness, the donuts are solid and delicious, toppings are well balanced and the combination is better than most mochi donuts I've had in the area. My boyfriend and I got 6 mochinuts. I had the nutella and coffee one and I loved! I also got a matcha bubble tea. It was good and the cans it comes in is very cute. But you can't get any boba through the top who go was very frustrating. I felt like i was performing surgery on the bottle just to get some tapioca. Chewy mochi donuts, I'm a fan of the light and airy texture and love how easy it is to pull these little treats apart (which also makes them fun for sharing!). The donut flavors here rotate every 2-3 days, which you can find updated on their Instagram. Out of the flavors I've tried so far, my faves are the yuzu, blueberry, and black sesame. I probably wouldn't order the taro or yoghurt again - they don't taste like much other than being generally sweet. Also it was a little strange but the strawberry lychee icing was inconsistent for me on two occasions - the first time was a nice light glaze and the second time had a thicker bright pink icing that tasted a bit more artificial. Great find. I was overall happy with the variety that I tried. Some were home runs while others were just ok. I tried the Ube, churros, ube, coconut, red velvet, oreo, and coffee! The donuts were nice and airy and not overly sweet. Of all the donuts I tried the best was 100% coconut. The flavor tasted real and not artificial. I discovered this new Mochinut bakery a few days ago on Instagram and I am so happy we took a trip on New Years Eve for 1/2 dozen of sweetness. The drive was 15 mins away. The store officially opened up in September 2020. Lots of parking on the streets and on a side parking lot. We read some reviews before hand and had some hesitation about the quality, but definitely more excited to try this out first hand to be my own judge since I've only dreamed about it when my friends were posting about these sweet treats from the West Coast. 1. The donuts were DEFINITELY fresh when we visited on 12/31/20, 2:30pm. I highly recommend checking on their Instagram account for when they release the new donut flavors for the week to ensure you get the freshest mochinuts!! Some reviewers even mentioned about stale donuts. Not sure why?! The oil used for frying wasn't stale and each bite of our selected donuts were soooo chewy. Their baker was still taking out pans of donuts for replenishment. 2. Due to the nature of the chewy mochi-like texture, this dessert will retain oil, similar to a sponge, during the deep frying process. So I understand why some reviewers commented on this being a greasy donut. TBH, I am not expecting a Keto donut. I expect there to be lots of calories per serving and this is definitely NOT a healthy treat. So I didn't mind the grease. This is a fried donut, not baked. There were excess oil when I intentionally squished the donut. Fine by me and we will return again :) 3. Be expected to pay $3 per donut. It's expensive, but ideal for those once-in-a-while visit on special occasions. My flavors: blueberry, red velvet, cookies & cream, ube coconut, raspberry, matcha. Yum! These donuts are light, but flavorful! I love the extra decorations they put on them. The line can be a bit long when people don't know what to order or it's their first time. I appreciate the free donut when you buy 6 promo! We got nutella, taro, white chocolate raspberry. All delicious! We also got corn dogs. You order the number on the board, and it takes about 10 mins as they make it from scratch! We got a #2 and #6. I love that they use beef hot dogs as I'm not so partial to the Korean version. Wow!!! What a pleasant surprise to stumble on this great find by H Mart. If you think the one in Mitsuwa was great, you must come to this local gem. This shop has been on my radar for about a week. Decided on a whim to take my kids on a Donut tour. Mochinut was our 1st stop. I was super excited to taste their Japanese donut. I ordered for myself the Ube. I also tasted my sons, the fruity pebble and Nutella. They were all super delicious. Light, airy full of flavor. I do have to say that my favorite out of the ones we order was... the Fruity Pebble! The batter they made tasted exactly like my childhood favorite cereal. The topping was the "cherry" on top. Texture: 5/5 WOW the chewiness and softness was so addicting. I wanted to chew it forever! I'm a big mochi fan in general, so I'm not surprised that I liked this type of doughnut. Taste: 3/5 It was unusually oily tasting. Similar to a fried sesame ball. If you like that taste, then more power to ya, but it was a bit sickening toward the end for me. Price: 2/5 I thought it was a bit ridiculous that you have to buy a minimum of 3 doughnuts. With that, the 3 doughnuts will cost you about $9 after tax. I do not think these are worth $3 each. Mochinut opened at the end of September. We were excited to try Mochinut's donuts. It is inside a Korean bakery. Although Mochinut menu shows tons of flavors (24 flavors!), but they only offer a handful of flavors a day at this location. I don't know if this is how they are planning to operate, as they are small shop, or they are just testing out different flavors until they can get all the flavors sorted out? It seems that they offer different flavors at each location, which is fun! We got there when they opened, and they didn't have any mochi donut... We asked the staff, and she told us they will be ready in 30 minutes. We decided to take a walk for 30 min to kill time. After 30 min, we were told they will have all the flavors ready in another 30 min... So, we killed time for total of one hour, and went back. They finally had five flavors, plus "plain". And the flavors were different from advertised on their social media. Two of the flavors they advertised, Black Sesame and Matcha, were not available, which we were very disappointed about... Well, what can you do? We got all the five flavors that they did have for this day. They sell them by three, six, and a dozen. They placed the mochi donut in the plastic container, which are more of less airtight. With the heat and steam coming out of the donut, I don't recommend the container to be closed for too long. Otherwise, they get too much moisture from the steam, and get soggy quick. The coating was more sugary than anything, without big flavors. The donut itself was good, fluffy and chewy in a good way. Not as chewy as other mochi donuts places. The only one that we really liked was Coffee donut. The flavor of the coffee was really present, not bitter but not overly sweet, just right. Overall, it was not worth waiting around one hour outside in the cold for...I prefer the ones from Mochimochi inside Mitsuwa much better. read more

Found out about this place from my friends and had to come here when I was on the area. My first mochi doughnut was in Japan and I've been obsessed ever since. Upon walking in, they also sell other baked goods. Ambiance is not great, there is no seating inside available which is kind of a bummer (but not during this pandemic of course). Mochinuts are reasonably priced. They were good but a bit on the greasier side compared to other ones I've had - I still would eat this over a regular American doughnut any day though. For flavors, they have a bunch on the menu but they only make certain flavors for the day (it changes every day). I went in the afternoon on a Monday, and it got crowded right after. The line moves pretty fast though especially if you still don't know what flavors you want. They have a wide range of mochi donut flavors to choose from ~ guava, milk tea, black sesame, dark chocolate, banana, pistachio (which were the ones we got). Aside from those, they had yogurt, ube, green tea, red velvet, plain, and more flavors. If you're not in a mochi donut mood, they have a small selection of cakes, corn dogs, and pastries. This place is more expensive than mitsuwa. I thought the variety of flavors would make up for it but unfortunately, you can't really taste a difference/distinctiveness in flavor for some. The pistachio and guava didn't really taste like said flavors. The texture is the same as Mitsuwa's. I don't think i'd go here again. Saw Mochinut in IG and got alerted they have a soft opening today and so off I went! Lol plus i had a voucher generously given by the shop a week before so that pretty much marked the calendar. I went exactly at the opening time but i guess the shop was already open a little prior as they shared a store with Dupan Bakery. The line was still short then but as we finished it became a little busier. The staff were nice but of course being that it was still there first day, they took their time to make sure everything was in order. Only 4 flavors were available today and that made choosing easier (got every single one of course lol) and the purchasing quick. You can get a box of 3, 6 or 12. The donuts were nicely decorated and they had a nice "pull-apart" moment when I had some. The taste was great and the texture even better. I've been seeing pictures of these snazzy looking donuts for a few weeks now and thought it best to investigate the situation this past Friday. I was already in the area for lunch at Hiram's Roadstand and noticed this particular Mochinut location was only a few blocks away from that. The street it's on almost feels like a back street rather than a main street, if that makes sense - in the immediate vicinity, there's a lot of apartments and backs of businesses versus storefronts. I parked just across the street, which at that time of day was metered. I suspect it wouldn't have been too difficult to locate free spots, but I'm not particularly interested in reconnaissance missions when it's below 20 degrees out. RIP quarter. Anyway. I can't speak for the other locations, but this Mochinut seems to exclusively handle to-go orders - it's a bit cramped in there (and there were two other customers who came in before me) with no seating options. Based on the display area, the donuts are the stars but they also have what looked to be other Korean-style food options, notably corndog variations. Since I was in the early stages of digesting two chili weenies, I went straight for the donuts. There were probably 20 options or so (definitely more than you'd get at, say, a Dunkin Donuts), ranging from chocolate-y flavors to fruity, and a bunch in-between. I have a weak spot for the recent cultural emergence of Fruity Pebbles as a viable topping on everything, so I ordered two Fruity Pebbles donuts, one with a more vanilla topping and one with a more strawberry topping. I was also intrigued by the concept of a pineapple guava flavor, so I snagged that as well. They had a 3 for roughly $9 deal, so these are a little pricier than mainstream donuts. My favorite turned out to be the pineapple guava. It was a unique taste, kind of zesty, sweet and tart at the same time. The Fruity Pebbles ones were good too, but a more predictable flavor. The texture is really interesting - because they're using a rice cake flour, it's definitely lighter and chewier than a typical donut. I ended up eating all three at once and didn't feel disgusting afterwards. I'd probably be sugar crash-catatonic on my recliner for a few hours if I had binged that quantity at a Dunkin. Definitely a recommend, especially if one of these locations isn't out of the way for you. Based on my review of the website, it looks like they're dramatically expanding locations particularly in the Bergen County area so you may stumble across a Mochinut without even trying pretty soon. read more

However they have many more Western flavors such as churro and peanut butter. This place also sells other baked goods. I recommend getting here early to have the best choices. This weekend I decided to swing by Mochinut as I heard they recently opened an east coast location. I didn't expect the shop to be built into a bakery, but it was cute and quaint. I personally decided to get the strawberry, cherry, in pistachio. The flavors, despite being a little sweet, or some of the softest donuts I've ever had. I am finally back with a long overdue doughnut review. As a donut connoisseur sommelier I feel obligated to keep my fellow donut lovers up-to-date on opportunities to consume more wonderful donuts. For this trip I decided to celebrate my son's birthday, who is a fan of Japanese culture, and combine that with my love of donuts. So I hopped on yelp and found the nearest mochi donut place to my current location. It is relatively easy to find in Fort Lee with a decent amount of street parking. Bring some good old fashion coins for the meter. It also has an H Mart next-door so you can get in some shopping at the same time. They have an abundance of different selections so you get to try different flavors. If you've never tried a mochi donuts before you have to do it at least once. It's a different mouth feel than a standard doughnut. However, I put these into the category of toppings only donuts. Kind of like duck donuts. The base doesn't change just the topping differentiates one donut from the other. I'd say overall these were good. Not awful. Not, you must go back and get these because they were life-changing, just good. I don't know that I'll be rushing back again but I'm happy I tried them. read more
