The tacos were good (these were the pork ones)... and we ordered on the phone and they were certainly extremely fresh.... But both orders came in one tray (which was fine) and then the flavor of the sauce was good but it could have used a teeny more sauce. Salsa could maybe use more spice too. Overall I didn't want to take more than one star off... very fresh for sure and healthy flavor and the pork was juicy but idk just lacking a little something something . I'm a birria tacos fan. After a long weekend in Vermont, in our way back to Connecticut, we stopped in for lunch @ Springfield,MA. We found this place 5 minutes from I-91. Their menu offers birria tacos and other Mexican dishes. Parking is on the street. The place is small but very clean. We got there and right away the waitress offered us something to drink. We ordered two Horchatas, they were good, not too sweet. Also we ordered birria tacos , nachos and green enchiladas. Everything was delicious. We tried take out from here a whole back and I never got around to writing a review. We enjoy trying new places and liked Montezuma. I really enjoyed my dinner as it was very unique with the fried cheese and salsa verde sauce with the steak. Plentiful beans, rice, and homemade tortillas to go with it. The fiancé ordered a carne asada burrito which he also enjoyed. And last but not least we had a delicious churro that reminded us of big e mini donuts ---- which we will miss desperately this year... Cons: - we enjoyed the food but it's a little out of our way for us. Totally not the restaurants fault. - so really the only con I would say is that I wish the 'large' order of guacamole was a little more large. The salsa was also a little too vinegary for my tastes. Just moved to the east coast from Los Angeles and every Mexican restaurant I've had has been one let down after another. I'd almost given up! I would tell my friends back home that the closest thing to good carne asada was Chipotle..and I HATE Chipotle. FML. I mean simply grilling some beef doesn't automatically make it carne asada. I have seen Moctezumas on Google searches before and finally took the plunge and ordered some take out. Tacos de Carne asada, birria, and al pastor. Enchiladas Verdes plate and an order of gorditas de pollo. The asada was bomb! Miracle for me to say! I was so surprised! I was expecting the typical flavorless grilled beef crap. I was so happy to actually tatse some salty marinad-ey goodness. Al pastor was Good as well. Fresh home made tortillas and real salsa (not just tomato sauce, oregano and chile flakes) ..like legit salsa. Birria was just okay as well. One birria taco was 50 percent fat. Yuck. Consome wasn't the best I've tasted either but hey it wasn't awful. Enchiladas were okay. Rice and beans were very underwhelming. Pretty bland unfortunately:( Gorditas were more like sopes. They would have been better with a different meat choice. The chicken was nicely grilled but lacked flavor. They needed some more salting for sure. But all in a all a solid taco spot ! WHOA. My new favorite Mexican place in the Valley. It's as good as it gets. Fresh, good quality, friendly, and SOOOO tasty! Portions are big. The food is just right. And the people were SO nice. Loved it here! The cream filled churros were delicious. So crisp. I had a chimichanga, the kiddo had the nachos (and didn't finish them all! They were loaded!) and a taco, and my buddy had a traditional dish. All very tasty. He and I also had a tamarind drink. Seemed almost like an iced tea. So sweet and delicious. I didn't think I could find better Mexican food than my favorite place in Enfield CT. But enter Moctezuma's in Springfield, MA and I'm transported to Olvera Street in downtown Los Angeles or any hole in the wall taco stand near the San Diego, CA - Tijuana, Mexico border. Amazing and authentic are the words that come to mind the minute I tasted the traditional carne asada taco. We got a plateful of traditional street tacos that included: al pastor, chorizo and carnitas. There wasn't enough time nor room in our tummies to try everything from their extensive menu, so we ordered to-go quesadillas, arroz con pollo and a plancha pollo dish. We'll be back to dine in again - and willing to drive the few extra miles to Springfield, MA from the Hartford region to eat at Moctezuma's. They have indoor and outside seating, and they appear to do a lot of carry/take-out business. Parking is available on the street - and on the Sunday we came, parking was not an issue. REALLY delicious, authentic Mexican cuisine. Ordered online thru GRUBHUB for pickup and when I arrived 35 minutes later, they never received it. I showed my receipt and time to pick-up. She was very kind and apologetic and told me it would only take a few minutes to make my order. They were super busy with delivery and I ended up waiting another 30 minutes. When I got home I realized the large salsa I paid extra for was the tiny container it normally comes with (I've ordered delivery before). I'm thinking that was an oversight. Especially the beef lenguas tacos. Serve traditionally with cilantro and onions. This isn't your parents tex mex food. This is legit Mexican food. The tortas? Divine. Chile Releno? Perfection. Pretty good food compared to the corporate/chain Mexican food places in the area. Ambiance was weird. The staff stood at the front playing with their cell phones and seemed super annoyed by customers. I did pick up on the positive vibes for take out orders and that coupons only apply to take out, so maybe that's more of what they're going for. I happened to be in the area and was starving, so to-go wasn't an option that day. We ordered nachos as an app, a chicken quesadilla, beans and rice for our little one, and 3 carne asada tacos. The tacos came out long before everything else and the steak was cold. Then the beans/rice, then the nachos, which were piping hot. The quesadilla came out a good 5 mins later. Not a big deal if we were all sharing, but it was sort of confusing to have one thing come out at a time and watch one another eat. There were also no salsa options. I get that traditional tacos should be onions and cilantro (lived in San Diego for years) but no salsa at all? Red, green, give me something! I can tell by some of the pictures that good options are available here, so maybe we hit them on an off day. I'd give them another shot, but I would not be running back here any time soon. read more
