There was plenty of seating for a Friday night. The menu was complicated so you would have to know what you wanted beforehand. They use counter service where they bring the food out to you and you buss your own table. They have outdoor seating and water on hand. There was a limited selection of beers and some margaritas. We entered the restaurant at a few minutes after 6:00 PM. There were 13 diners seated and a group of 3 being educated, by the Host/order taker, in the restaurant's offerings, process, procedures and reputation. We waited nearly 12 minutes before moving up to place our orders for chicken enchiladas and rice and quesadilla with spinach and peppers. Upon placing our order we were given a basket of nachos with a small container of salsa and directed to a table to wait its delivery. Although the salsa was marginally OK, the nachos were thick and tough as well as salt free. At least there was no worry about getting oil on one's fingers. The enchiladas were badly burned with the imprint of the grill grate in sharp relief on each side of the tortilla; so badly burned that I could not cut through the tortilla with the reasonably sharp, serrated knife supplied with the meal. I had to tear the tortilla apart resulting in the burned portion actually breaking with a snap felt as the pastry parted. The rice was quite cool and both elements of the dish were absolutely bland and tasteless. The sauce, however, would have been good had it been warm. The quesadilla was no warmer than room temperature and completely tasteless. Although it's likely we've had worse meals in our long and traveled lives, neither of us can remember when. We can say that this was a terrible dining event and truly the worst we can remember. The good news is that neither we nor the Masa Mexicano restaurant need fear a reprise of our return. And finally: The only person with whom we interacted was the Host/order taker. He was pleasant and apologetic and, I suspect, somewhat embarrassed. If he wasn't, he should have been. read more

First time visitor to Masa Mexicano. The food is real, quite authentic, though I did note the flavor of beans, rice was a bit tepid. But otherwise, if you are looking for some authentic good Mexican food, I would definitely consider visiting. The greeters and servers are quite welcoming, especially to newbies, and they took the time to inform us in detail about some of the selections; specials are listed off to the left of the central ordering counter. You may dine indoors or outdoors as weather permits. But that being said, when all is said and done I don't think I will return. Why? The prices! I just cannot afford $4. Unless you're looking for it, one could easily drive by this gem. The food tastes fresh, authentic, and not processed in the least. I was impressed with the plating skills of the chef in addition to a very tasting meal. I had their Masa Bowl with chicken, a Barbacoa street taco, Mexican corn, a beautiful margarita and one of the best Flans I've had to date. The brothers whom I assume own it have great customer service. They are friendly, attentive, thoughtful, and efficient. My wife is great at finding cool food when we're road-tripping. Masa Mexicano was a Yelp pick based upon the 5 Star rating and we visited on a Friday night at a prime dinner time. MM is located in a small plaza about 10 minutes off Exit 25 of 91N. They have modern takes on Mexican classics like tortas, tacos and quesadillas, etc. There was a 10 minute line when we arrived. After you order, you pick an inside or outside table and they bring your food when it is done. It took about 30 minutes to get our food after we ordered, because they were very busy with both dine in and takeout. I only mention the wait to highlight their popularity. Service was friendly and they were clearly doing the best they could given all the customers. You can order ahead if you're better organized than we were. Our family of 3 loved everything we tried. My wife had fried fish tacos and raved about them, which she is not especially likely to do. So they must have been great. My 10 y.o. ordered grilled chicken tacos for the first time and loved them. That's a big win as he continues to explore new foods. My Achiote Fried Chicken Torta was delicious. The breaded chicken cutlet was tender inside and had great texture outside. The bread was fresh and up to the job. The toppings which I think included achiote paste, tomato, a mild red cabbage type slaw, pickled red onions, a tangy sauce or two, and white Mexican cheese crumbles. It was a modern/fusion take on a torta rather than a traditional one and I loved it. The seasoned rice, tortilla chips, Guac, house salsa and refried beans were all good. Heard about this place and it was worth the drive. Fresh food with lots of flavors and well seasoned. We had flautas, one of each taco, street corn, and grilled jalapeños. Everything was good, but the standouts were the vegan chorizo taco, grilled street corn, and grilled, stuffed jalapeños. The rice and beans (black and redoes alike) are ok, so if beans are your groove, you won't love these, but they're fine. My chips and salsa were good and the guacamole was some of the best that I ever had, but the rest of my food was not hot when served and the ambient temperature of the room was on the chilly side. There's a reason this place has five stars. We typically stop in Northampton on our way to and from Vermont. The downtown is great but I wanted something different. We tried the masa dumpling soup which was a special. Amazing. I threw in some of my rice and beans for good measure. I haven't had a torta in years so I felt like that was worth a try. It starts with the bread and they nailed it. Bonus points for the balance of slaw and actual fried chicken. My wife got the Al pastor, baracoa and chicken tacos. The tortillas are made fresh at the restaurant and it shows(you can actually smell it when you walk in). Oh my God! This restaurant is the best Mexican in Western mass. I got a burrito bowl with braised beef the owner Roberto told me was slow cooked for five hours with cilantro, black beans rice, tomatoes guac sour cream...the whole kitchen sink! Super fresh. So amazing! Good for two meals. I am spreading the word. I've had the tacos as well. Same deal! They use this special organic flour from Mexico. So flavorful. But this was delicious, clean and fresh--just plow yourself up to the Big Menu and take a gander (checking on the speciality of the day). Found this place on way back to CT from MA on a drizzly day. Northhampton has options but this one is a bit out from the main town. Worth finding it! The server gave us a complete description of items on the menu. So enthusiastic to make sure we got what we liked. Being Gluten sensitive I loved that their fryer was GF! I tried the fish tacos (special) and had three tacos each with a large piece of breaded(gf) cod and creative toppings, double shelled in their homemade corn tortillas. Horchata was very smooth and tasty. BF had trio of tacos - nice to be able to mix - and favorite was barbacoa. Shells were slighty grilled to help them standup to fillings. Large portion of meat in each one. Rice and beans rounded out the meal and plenty of food. Although a fast casual the atmosphere was pleasant and lots of windows to bring in light.
