I've been a patron of Moda's four times, but will not return and will not recommend. First let me state the good: good neighborhood location, it's clean, nicely appointed and the pedicure chairs are nice. They offer tea, water, or white wine. The ambiance is great, light and bright, good music, excellent staff. Now for the not so good: I've had better pedicures elsewhere. Having said that, I am grateful they introduced me to the Shellac pedicure, I will never go back to regular pedicures. What is truly unfortunate is Tina's poor attitude and lack of accountability for their own errors. Where Moda misses opportunity is in remembering that consumers go to the salon for a "relaxing" experience. It's a treat, an overdue pampering, a much needed break, whatever the case ... we all go to relax and have a little slice of pampering. My daughters made reservations a week in advance of Mothers Day for 3 Shellac Pedicures & waxing. We looked forward to spending mother/daughter time together on Mothers Day, our plan was a relaxing pedicure then grab a light lunch. When we arrived at Moda, we were shown to our pedicure massage chairs and were only in the chairs for approximately 10 minutes before we were moved several times. We were informed the salon had double booked appointments on Mother's Day. Not only that, but they were also taking walk-in's. The staff was uncomfortable and apologized to many patrons; not a good situation for anyone. The gal who applied my Shellac color virtually squatted on the floor and put my toes on her knees to apply polish because there weren't any chairs for her to sit in, this was totally ridiculous and it made me really uncomfortable. I think everyone was hoping management (Tina and/or Loc) would better manage the situation, their answer was to offer more wine to everyone. After being moved several times I spoke with Loc and he apologized; again we were told it was a scheduling error; they'd overbooked and they would make a price adjustment due to the circumstances. The staff was uncomfortable, I think we were all uncomfortable. When we went to check out, they gave a $3.00 adjustment for a basic nail kit. THAT was their so-called adjustment. My daughters were taking care of the payment as a Mother's Day treat, so I wasn't aware of the details until after we left. My daughter's spent over $170 for the three of us and it was THE WORST pedicure I've ever had. The soak was only for a few minutes before being moved, no buffing of dead skin, they did a preliminary nail trim & file, but then didn't go back and finish, I had to ask them twice to correct my daughter's color because it was so sloppy. We were moved a total of FOUR times during ONE pedicure. We were all disappointed and dissatisfied. We've been having mother / daughter spa days for years and have never had a poor experience like this one, thank goodness !!!! This experience bothered me the entire afternoon and I felt it was important to bring this to their attention. In an effort to resolve this I went back to the salon before closing to speak with Tina and Loc directly. I explained my disappointment and wished they had been upfront about the double booking, we would have made different arrangements. To be fair, I felt a gift certificate for a return visit would have been appropriate, either that or do a price adjustment commensurate to the pedicure service they delivered that day. My daughters paid a lot of money for a very poor spa experience, Moda did not charge accordingly. When I spoke with Loc and Tina, I was stunned at Tina's arrogance. She stated there was no overbooking and we received 1 hour & 15" of services, exactly what she booked for us. Tina was abrupt and stated she'd given a $3.00 price adjustment already and that's all she was going to do. I informed Tina and Loc I could not support a local business that treated their patrons with such poor regard and carelessness. In Summary: a) Horrible Experience b) No price adjustment for services not rendered 3) Tina's arrogance was salt in the wound. The sad part is they put a damper on Mother's Day plus now I'll be traveling to close-in Portland for a good Shellac pedicure. Buyer Beware! read more

I went to this salon for the first time today bc a friend gave me a gift card for Christmas. I went in to get a pedicure and a solar full set. The charge 5$ for a nail kit, which seemed high to me, but whatever. It is what it is. The pedicure was good. No complaints there. After that u had over to the nail station for my hands and then things go bad. I told her I wanted a full set and she spoke with the owner next to her and the owner started arguing with me saying that I asked for a fill in the phone. I didn't. When I had called she kept saying fill and I guessed that was what she wanted to calm it. She kept telling me I was wrong and being condescending to me. I get solar done all the time. I know what I'm asking for. So then I to her I'll just do the pedicure and pay for that. She said ok and the started complaining about me to the customer she was working on. I think she handled the whole thing terribly and you don't talk about a customer when they're still there. I wasn't the only person with an issue with her too while I was there. She scheduled someone else for the wrong day and told the customer that she told her the wrong day. Wouldn't take any responsibility for her mistakes. I wouldn't go there again purely because of the earner even though the quality of the work was good. read more

I had a rare opportunity for a pedicure and decided to go to Moda based on reviews. I was 20 minutes early for my appointment, but they managed to fit me in early. The place is very clean and all equipment was like new. I noticed that they all sweep their area midway through pedicures.... perhaps after clipping. Kim was very friendly without forcing conversation. Like all of my visits to low price nail salons, I was disappointed in the lack of attention to cuticles, but the end result turned out nice. The low price even included a quick paraffin dip! It was a nice gesture, but I'm not sure how effective it is when it's only left on for 2-3 minutes. Overall, it was a treat to visit Moda and I will come back if I get another chance. The ladies there are so nice, they even accommodated a random jogger looking for water. He went to the sink and they showed him the water cooler without turning up their noses. Random observation, but it says a lot about the spirit there :) read more

In my opinion this is the best nail salon in Portland. The service was great, pricing was similar to other walk-in nail salons and very clean. Lee did my nails and she had great attention to detail. I do not like going to a nail salon where the person doing my nails is paying more attention to everything else around them. Looking who's coming in the door, visiting with other employees, etc. I've had several experiences lately when the person isn't even looking at my nails while filing and buffing (Diva Nail Salon in Beaverton). At Moda, Lee paid close attention to the work she was doing. Another thing I do not like is salons that take way too long to do a mani/pedi (Galaxy Nail Salon in Beaverton) or work too quickly with poor quality (Diva Nail Salon). My experience at Moda took the perfect amount of time. I appreciated how clean the salon was. It was small and not overly busy. Very relaxing. I would recommend making an appointment. As previously stated the salon is small and you may not be able to walk in and be seen right away. This place is a gem. I am so happy I finally found a great nail salon in Portland!! read more

Fantastic service, relaxing and very professional! I had an afternoon to myself so I snuck over for a pedicure on a Sunday afternoon. My aesthetician was very sweet, let me relax and read my magazines. I felt pampered and beautiful at the end, and my nails were pretty and sparkly. This is definitely my go-to salon for manicures and pedicures, they also do waxing I believe. I prefer to make an appointment, since they do tend to get busy with groups of ladies, but they are very accommodating to the people I saw walk-in. The massage chairs are fantastic and the salon is VERY clean. Relaxing music, great magazines, tea and water and very nice nail technicians. Tony, the owner, is a very sweet guy and always friendly. There is a coffee shop on the lower level of the complex, so I usually treat myself to an iced coffee and relax. Thanks Moda, my toes look beautiful!! read more

So disappointed! I've been coming to Moda Nails for 5 years but the past two visits have been poor. My friend treated us to pedicures on Sunday for my birthday and the experience was a disaster from beginning to end. When we were first seated we placed our purses on the table provided. Later we found smeared nail polish on both of our purses and my cell phone! I really hope they aren't ruined. Then my friend was having her toe nails filed and the big toe was filed roughly and started bleeding. She asked the gal to be more gentle and was told that her toe was like that already. Really?!? No, her toe was not bleeding previously, come on. The massage on my chair was broken and kept turning off every minute or two. At the end of my polish the gal helping me stood up and walked over to another customer and started a manicure. No communication, just got up and walked away.Overall, not the relaxing experience we had been looking forward to. Afterwards my friend and I stopped for coffee and really looked at our nails. There were big smear marks, polish was missing from parts of nails, polish was on our skin. We were tempted to go back to ask them to touch up the mistakes but would it really be better? It is time to find a new nail salon. We will not be returning, which is a shame after 5 years of good service. read more

I was super impressed with this place. I have been shopping around for awhile and I'm so glad I found it. 1. It was really clean; personal nail kits and I watched them clean each unit very thouroughly after each use. 2. What a relief to have friendly and conversant technicians. They actually spoke to me and my husband in English and made an effort rather than sitting and talking in vietnamese to eachother the whole time. 3. The staff was all very friendly and professional. They said hi to all who came into the door and seemed to know most of the clients by their first name. I could tell right away they were good by how busy they were and how many repeat customers they seemed to have. 4. The job they did on my nails was immaculate. They were gentle on my cuticles, my nail polish was perfect and they took their time. They were also very knowledgeable about various procedures, polishes and options. 5. Price can't be beat. $45 for a pedicure and shellac manicure. I highly recommend this place. I know I will be back. Make sure you make an appointment though as they had a lot of business and people who walked in without an appointment had a 30-60minute wait time. read more

I have been a client of Moda Salon for the past 4 years - one of the best nail salons I've ever been to and I'm from New York. The salon is always clean and doesn't have a strong overbearing odor of nail polishes which some salons tend to do. I took by daughter-in-law and 2 granddaughters for a mani and pedi on January 21, 2017. While the service was great, when I went to pay, they refused to take my credit card simply because it was a Citi Visa from Costco. Would not even consider it or run the card. Pretty embarrassing to say the least as the event was a gift for my daughter-in-law, who had to charge on her card, as I had no other means of payment with me. read more

Toxic gel smell is overwhelming !! I asked Manager to open door because of smell and she said no one else had problem with smell. Made an appt with the owner's husband. He confirmed it was with Kathy before we got off the phone. When I got there, Tina, the owner, tells me I don't have an appt with Kathy. She proceeds to bring over the appt book and show me I'm with someone else. I assured her that wasn't what I was told and she continues to tell me I'm wrong. Seriously?? Never once admitted their screw up (in person), however, the husband called me and admitted he made a mistake. I walked out and won't return. I went here this past weekend and I really love it!! It's a bit of a drive since I live in the Tanasbourne area, but it's worth it. It's clean, professional and the owner is super friendly. I got a classic pedi with a shellac mani all for $45. Reasonable!! It was also quicker than normal to get the shellac done since they have 2 of the UV nail dryer thing at each station. Genius! :) I will totally be back and will be bringing friends!! read more

i get to moda, expecting the best, like all the reviews seem to say. i wanted a french shellac manicure. not too hard, i was very clear on what i wanted, and not only that i had my previous preferred nail style on to be removed when i walked in for them to reference how i like my nails done. the girl that did my nails was tracy and she didn't seem to be able to do the french tip whatsoever. it was jagged, uneven on either side, uneven amounts of thickness, white streaks under the final top coat, it ended up taking about 1.5 hours, before the boss realizes tracy was late for her next appointment, which is when the boss sat down and roughly and gruffly took my hand and asked me if i liked what she did to fix my nails, it looked like a 3rd grader could have done this 'correction' finally they pulled in jenny who did fix my nails but there are still white streaks and a bumpy texture from it being put on too thick. i told the boss i was uncomfortable and she said nastily that she was too, even tho i'd been nothing but polite. she said its impossible to make the nails on each hand match the corresponding nail from the other hand, and when i told her that another salon farther from my house than this one can do this, she said i should just go back to them next time. all for wanting my nails done nicely, its not like they are a discounted place. i wouldn't recommend this place to ANYONE. if they can't offer at least customer service with a smile, what is the point? i felt trapped, as they were halfway through my nails and i just wanted to leave. do not risk it, the good reviews are very MISLEADING read more
