Visiting Modern Animal here in Dallas was one of the worst days of my life. After hitting the road at 4am to make it in from Austin, I was already a wreck. My dog had been diagnosed with cancer just three days prior and now needed his leg amputated, ASAP. This was the closest and soonest we could have the procedure done, and I'm so grateful for it. Dr. Dammicci is incredible; kind, patient, and absolutely a top notch surgeon. I would never wish this situation on anyone, ever, but I was astounded at how cleanly the leg was removed. More remarkably, my child was already walking a day later, and three weeks post op, he's running, playing, and acting for all the world like this was all just some horrible nightmare. I'm forever grateful to the team here. They've given my baby so many years of life back. Seeing him happy and healthy, especially after all we've been through, is truly a gift. read more

We have been going to this vet since we got our puppy in November and it is nothing short of amazing. Love the office, the app and the staff. Dr Christina Mastromonaco takes her time, lets you ask questions, fully explains things and sends the most detailed post care summaries after each appointment. She goes above and beyond each time. I give this place two stars because they their membership and structure of how this place works just does doesn't. I still have a sick dog and it's been a week and a half of back-and-forth trying to get pills results and still haven't been able to fill the prescription. I've gone to Costco twice. Come to find out, Costco doesn't even make the prescription. The first time I went to Costco with the prescription, the prescription was completely wrong and prescribed only for one pill and the wrong thing. I drove an hour to get there and then sat on a virtual chat for an hour with no response. They have it to where you are not allowed to call or able to call to speak to person at the veterinary clinic at all. They have a "virtual care team", which if I could show you screenshots is a joke. They use another virtual chat calked their "prescription team" to handle prescriptions for sick. It is a two day wait time for a responses. It literally says it on the screen. They are only open three or four days a week. Not OK for a veterinary clinic handling sick dogs. And when I walk in there, it's usually completely empty. There's no feel of human connection or care. I was really excited about this place and the idea of a membership of getting to bringing either of my animals in for check ups without that crazy cost, but looks like there's no avoiding that. I had memberships for both my dog and my cat and now moving to another vet. read more

I recently took my Shih Tzu, Parzivol, to Modern Vet and visited with Dr. Mastromonaco. I couldn't be more pleased with the experience. From the moment we arrived, the staff was incredibly welcoming and warm, making both of us feel at ease. I really appreciate their approach to not stressing out the pets, which is important for dogs like mine, who can be very fearful of other people and dogs. On his second visit the same day, with some sedative assistance, my pup was much more acclimated and receptive to the doctor and technicians. They handled him with care, and he wasn't as fearful as before. They also provided clear instructions on his medications and follow-up care, making everything easy to understand. This will definitely be Parzivol's vet from here on out. I highly recommend Modern Vet and Dr. Mastrominaco for their gentle, thoughtful approach to pet care. I brought my 12 yr old (in 2 months) cat Alvin in because we have been to 2 other vets for his congestion/sneezing/on and off "allergies" for years and after blood tests and checkups other vets told us to take 1/4 over the counter antihistamines or steam from a hot shower. These things never work. I was intrigued by Modern Animal for the upfront pricing and hey- it's new and looks nice. Dr. Cristina Mastromonaco and her assistants listened to everything I said about his health, looked at his previous records, and we started with some thorough testing and I'm so glad they checked his ears too, finding both ears had a yeast infection which nobody else found. They also asked about his one eye which started developing freckles in 2016, and we might need to keep track of. Sorry this is long but they cleaned his ears and gave us antibiotics and ear drops. Within two hours his breathing was normal, and just a couple days I could tell he was feeling better. We are a week post appointment and Alvin feels so much better! He doesn't mind taking his medicine and tolerates the cold ear drops because he knows it's helping him and I am so happy I could cry. I'm so glad I came here and I am looking forward to our follow up appointment so they can see how he's doing. The app is great! I can view the test results, summary of the visit so I could go over it with my husband later, and it feels really organized. Also it's a great location, good coffee spot with a drive through and restaurants in the same shopping center so you can grab a something on the way home easily. Lots of parking. It started out, promising, and the vets who work at this location are knowledgeable and kind - HOWEVER - the main selling point of this franchise is the chat and video call feature that you have access to, to determine what is going on with your pet, but all they ever tell you is to go in and be seen by the vet... and that's if they know what they're even talking about. This morning, I asked them in the chat which microchip company my dog's microchip is through, and the chat told me to ask the vet who put it in - THEY put it in. How do they not know this? I've often wondered if it's a bot, only because they don't seem to be able to read past chat records or even the vet records for your particular animal. It took over a week to get a routine prescription refill for my pet, on a medication that she takes every single day and has for months, that was originally prescribed by Modern Animal and on a medication that she would have to taper off of and cannot just stop taking. It took three separate chats, a phone call, and making an actual appointment in order for anyone to get it done, when it was as simple as reading the records that there was a dose increase by their own vet. The video call and phone is almost never available. The chat takes days at best to get anything resolved. They charge 2 to 5 times what procedures and routine care costs at other facilities. You are better off taking your animal to Dallas Animal Urgent Care, which basically acts like a walk-in vet, as well as an emergency and urgent care facility, but with better prices than Modern Animal has ever offered. I've had all three of my dogs with Modern Animal for over a year, and I would never recommend this vet or their services in the current state of operation. I have actually had them ask me to pull up their own records in the chat. Is there some reason they can't access their own records? The amount of peanut butter and jelly I have to do for these people should earn me a paycheck from Modern Animal. Just know, this is not the service that is advertised, and if all you need is vaccinations, you will save a lot of money going to a regular vet. In my experience, you are 100% guaranteed to be frustrated and overcharged by Modern Animal. read more

Dolce has quickly become a frequent visitor here. He was always prone to ear issues, itchy skin, everything. On our first visit Dr. Longoria quickly brought up thar maybe cytopoint wasn't the best, and a food trial would be a great option to work out Dolce's issues. Naturally, I was very hesitant because I trusted his original care team, and my dog was on a top of the line kibble, and fully fresh food. Fast forward to our second visit, and it was brought up again, this time I was educated about the signs of food allergies. I opted to take him off chicken, and it has been a night and day difference. Basically, Dr. Longoria is who want for long term solutions addressing the cause, and not the symptoms. This sounds like a good idea, until you actually use it. You will get more accurate and up to date information from a Google search (and likely faster than they answer the chat). Nothing is done through chat (or quickly). Usually, it takes 24 hours for a doctor's approval (even when there is clear notes regarding your pet's situation or past medication dosages in their file). Most of the time, it seems like the chat responses are bots. While the vets in the clinic are great, their vaccinations, spay/neuter and other services are 2-3x the cost they are at any other vet office. Medication refills take days unless you request a "rush". Rather than give actual valuable advice through the chat function, they will tell you to make an appointment (even for things that do not require a physical exam). As far as normal exams, they're fine, but for these added "features", they really aren't what they claim to be (not even close). They also do not accept Care Credit, (and invaluable resource for pet parents on a budget). My advice? Find a standard vet practice you like and save yourself the $$$. read more

I will never go back to Modern Animal. Their reliance on app-based communication eliminates simple, essential human interactions and does a disservice to veterinarians who value customer service. When I asked the receptionist at the front desk about my dog's heartworm test results, she said she couldn't tell me; rather, a doctor had to inform me of the results or I should check the app. I was standing 5 feet away from her and the results were negative! I needed to update payment information and wanted to call that clinic directly. The same receptionist informed me that there was no direct number and that I had to use the app instead. So I tried, and after being on hold for 40 minutes (with the app), I decided to drive to the clinic to relay the information in person. What made this particularly frustrating were two things: 1) the information I communicated to a lab tech never got delivered, and 2) during a subsequent visit, I learned that Modern Animal does, in fact, have a direct number. Insanity! Additionally, my dog has been experiencing prolonged GI issues, so I dropped off numerous fecal samples for analysis. The latest - and most important - sample was not processed because Josh "forgot." His words, not mine. I wasted a lot of time and money, literally, for nothing. I am no closer to figuring out what is wrong with my dog than I was when I brought him in a few weeks ago. There are plenty of good vets in and around Dallas. Do yourself a favor and avoid Modern Animal at all costs. read more

Visited Modern Animal today with my German Shepherd and I must say, I was thoroughly impressed by the level of care and innovation they provided. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was welcoming and modern, with a calming ambiance that instantly put both me and my dog at ease. They had a complimentary selection of cold brews, sparkling water, and a few other things. The staff was amazing and very kind. All of the pricing seemed pretty reasonable. They show you everything right then and there. They are completely paperless and you do everything through the app. I thought it was a bit ridiculous at first then I started using the app and in 1 minuet I was chatting with an agent who booked me an appointment in less than 5 minuets. We just did the $80 version for our first visit, but definitely think paying the $199 is worth it in the long run. This will for sure be our new vet.
