This is one of the best animal shelters I've been to! You can tell that the staff really care for all the animals and want to find them the best homes. They offer a great foster program, which is a good option if you want to adopt but aren't ready or want to spend time with the dog/cat first before adopting. They also have a "borrow a buddy" program where you can take a dog out for a day and give him/her some time outside of the shelter. The shelter offers a 30-return with refund and they will also accept animals back at any time if they were adopted from this location. This helps to avoid animals being abandoned or neglected. read more

I mean it's a shelter - so it's sad with all the animals needing to be adopted. This place seems to run fairly smoothly, though. I adopted a three year old kitty almost two weeks ago. It was $100 and came with the kitty, some food and her anti-anxiety medicine. Not a bad deal considering that I hope most of the money goes back into the shelter. I am always happy to help the good kitty cat and I'm happy to rescue a cute black cat that had been at the shelter for three months. read more

DO NOT FOSTER HERE!!! On August 16, 2025, after a week of emails I had an 345PM appointment to foster a dog. I show up a bit early and after an hour am told he's not available to foster due to an exposure to pathogen despite being fully vaccinated against. The 2nd dog I was interested in wasn't allowed to leave with me since she allegedly had a serious skin condition. How serious if she's in an open air cage with multiple other dogs? If it's serious they would be away from public view in a small kennel, like the first dog was. The worker was also snarky and rude, she kept smiling like it was joyful to prevent me from fostering a dog. Shame on SPCA. Stick to other dog shelters that don't slush all their donations in a fancy building. read more

Tried to get help from them to corral a herd of starving cattle that are emaciated with hip bones in and ribs showing, the cattle are in a pasture with no food or water and most are wormy judging by the goiters on the in chins. There is a new baby calf but it won't make it. I live in Bowie county texas. SPCA turned me away. Never will donate another dime. read more

I'm happy I ultimately chose SPCA to spay my dog. First and foremost, the price was right! They had a special going on to get a spay, vaccines and microchip for $35. I was quoted $1400 for the spay alone at another vet office and I usually pay hundreds for vaccines. When I arrived for my dog's appointment, there was about an hour wait total, but they warn you of this ahead of time. My advice is arrive earlier than the time they tell you so that you can put your name on the list first. Nonetheless the wait was pleasant. When I was called, the staff member who assisted me calmed my nerves and assured me that my dog would be just fine. That went a long way for me! I returned later that day to grab her. The wait was again about an hour. They walk you through how the procedure went and leave you with after care notes and medicine for your pet. Thankfully they noticed my dog was developing hydrometra which could've turned into pyometra, which can be deadly. They removed the infected area and again thankfully the extra fee for that was only $15. I couldn't recommend this place more. I'll be returning for all vaccines and nail trims! read more

12/27/24: We brought our Yorkipoo to get neutered, and everything went great. The staff was very nice, especially Donisha, at the front desk. She answered all of our questions about the procedure, when to return to pick up our fur baby, and aftercare instructions. I would like to commend...TERRI !!! I was @ Northpark Mall, @ the SPCA "exhibit" on Black Friday yesterday. I wanted a certain kitten, CeCe, so bad that I got there 2 hours early. Terri helped me so much in getting the kitten of my dreams. Furthermore, since I got there 2 hours early, I wanted to walk around the mall as they were setting up the exhibition. Over the last 30 years I've adopted a 4-5 dogs from here. I've used their vet services for vaccinations as well. Good works. My current dog, Mickey is a lab cross. About 5 years ago, my daughter told us they were having a $25 rescue weekend. I found Mickey and his siblings on their page. We promptly went to the shelter, picked Mickey out and headed to checkout. Imagine my surprise when I found out it'd be $250 instead of $25. God had blessed us and by then my wife was attached to him so Mickey has been with us ever since. The folks here are good folks. It's not easy to walk in to a shelter and see all those faces begging for you to take them home but I will say the new staff is a caring staff! This is a very stressful environment but they try really hard to make it as best as possible. The clinic is great and I can always get cheaper spay neuter surgery done here for animals I rescue. I do recommend adopting pets from them, they ensure they're fully vaccinated and fixed before they go to their forever homes! I've been on the search for a small terrier for a month now. I refresh the SPCA website multiple times a day and last night (after closing), I finally see a dog that I'm interested in. I take time off of work the next day and drive an hour to the SPCA to meet and potentially adopt the dog. I was first in line at opening and ask to meet the dog. But the staff says the dog has already been adopted. How does a dog get adopted while the facility is closed? The dog was posted on the website at night and I was first in line at opening the next day. The only thing I can think was that the dog was being adopted by one of the staff members. I understand why they should be allowed first dibs, but maybe you shouldn't post a dog on your public website if it is already being adopted by someone internally. This is the 5th dog I've gotten my hopes up about and lost because their website was not updated. It's extremely disheartening. Do better SPCA. read more

My first impression was, WOW, this is such a Gorgeous facility! I was so happy that my daughter chose this facility to have her precious kitten spayed. My husband and I had taken our "Grand Cat", Pushpa (means Flower in Indian), to the SPCA to have our daughter's kitten spayed because she was in Virginia this week. When I called to confirm her appointment and ask what entrance we needed to go in, I was instructed to be there by 7:30 am and, go to the Front Entrance and use the side door to the left of the front door. Perfect! We walked right in @ 7:30 and were immediately greeted by Donisha (our friendly Vet Tech that day) and signed in, given instructions, told exactly what to expect and to be back to pick Pushpa up @ 3:30 PM. Great, smooth and easy peasy! We arrived back to pick Pushpa up at 3:30 pm and, they brought out a pretty 'out-of-it' little kitten. =( She was Not happy with her pretty blue e-collar, at all ! We are so impressed with this facility , the amazing Vet Tech ,Donisha, and the total care that all of the employees, volunteers and veterinarian provide....it couldn't have been any better ! Thank you again, Donisha! As we were leaving on Friday, Sept. 1st, '17, the employees and volunteers were unloading huge trucks filled with supplies...getting ready for all on the animals from evacuees in Houston and Louisiana. It was unbelievable ! I'm so grateful for all of these wonderful folks and, I told each and every one them that I saw. I wish I'd taken a picture of these employees and volunteers hustling and bustling...getting ready of all of the evacuees' pets. Thank you, SPCA of Dallas ! I would highly recommend anyone to call and check out this facility for all / any of your pet's needs and certainly if you're looking to adopt a new pet. Very clean and an impressive facility. Lady at the front desk was super nice and greeted us as we walked in. Dogs are kept in glass rooms so it is pretty quiet compared to some shelters. The rooms the dogs were housed in were very clean. I love the information cards on the front that tell a little about each animal and which family they would fit neat with. There are not many dogs here, maybe 30? They also had a separate room for cats which was pretty impressive. They had mice up for adoption as well. There was a little gift shop inside too. Although we didn't find our furever pal here this time around, but we will not hesitate to come back and even recommend this shelter to others interested in adopting. read more

The SPCA was not professionally or competent --after several phone calls and one visit. They were asked about three year rabies vaccines, and without consulting me AT the actual visit, they gave my dog the one year vaccine. I asked why they did this after I specifically asked for the three year. They responded, "oh, we can't get three year vaccines unless you request it.". I responded, " I did request it...before I came for the appointment." Then they changed their to response, "Well, next year you can request it.". I said, "ok, let's get that requested now so that everything is ordered ahead of time.". On a follow up call six months later they said no three year vaccinations were being offered. I said, "when were you going to tell me this?". They person said, "I don't know. I'm just the customer call center. I know that they started this a few months ago.". I replied, "Why didn't anyone call me?". Again, "I don't know. I'm just the call center." This is just one of the examples. The service level is nonchalant, irresponsible, and below par. I highly recommend that you take your dog elsewhere. read more

The dogs were presentable and we quickly noticed that the dogs well kept well after. I adopted 2 pets from the Spca. One from the Pet Smart off of Lovers and Greenville. Went well. Very smooth adoption. The other adoption was at the Lone star location. I found the cat I wanted. The process was fine. Staff and volunteers were great. Overall went quickly. No pressure to adopt and all medical history was disclosed. Both cats are doing fine. Like they were siblings. I love this organization. The hard work and dedication that everyone puts in here is substantial. They save animals lives everyday and make the community a better place. This is the cleanest nicest animal shelter in Dallas. Please consider donating beds, toys, blankets, and towels. You can also inquire on how to foster a pet it's very easy and makes room in the shelter for them to House / rescue more animals. I attempted to enter the building through the Jan Rees-Jones section, only to notice the front doors were locked. An employee notice my embarrassment and advised me that the center opens at 12 noon. I returned a little after noon and notice several individuals entering in through the East entry near the employee parking area. There was an mature female greeting them as they entered, so I decided to follow the crowd. I may had been 20 yards behind them when suddenly I heard the door latch. Hmmmm, I thinking to myself she did see me right? So I approached the door and the door was secured, I glanced inside and notice several individuals standing near the door in conversation...I know they see me! So I knock several times and finally the mature lady opened the door and asked if she could help me...my emotions were off the charts at this moment, but I composted myself and asked if this is the correct location for animals picked up on the streets...she pointed out that this is not the correct location and the location I needed was another exit up. I thanked her and left...not before writing this review. The lady which helped me earlier received 5 stars, but the mature lady received a negative 5 star rating. read more

I just had a terrible experience at this location. I normally go to McKinney for my vaccinations, however I needed to update a rabies shot prior to a grooming appointment. So I saw that the Dallas location was open for the lower cost vacations. reading the reviews and having been before at the McKinney location... I thought I'd go to the Dallas location to get the shots updated prior to the grooming appointment. understanding that it would take an hour or two wait time if I got there early. WRONG!!!! I got there at 8am, signed in and waited 3.5 hours... I then found out that once they called your name, you ended up waiting another hour in the inside waiting room! I work a fulltime job that makes it impossible to see a vet after I get off of work. I ended up leaving after 3.5 hours of waiting that didn't even get me into the main wait room!!!! I heard one of the receptionists say that "we just got a new vet"... Management, this is a great program run INEFFICIANTLY!!! I am a professional horse trainer and have dealt with vets over 40 years... I thought to utilize this program offered in support of it... but this is mismanaged and run inefficiently! Don't waste your time... as the young lady said to me, we can text you... what is your phone carrier. I said AT&T... she replied, "Oh, I'm sorry... ATT doesn't support us". Go figure! One of the cleanest facilities around DFW. Well run organization, helpful staff & a great team of volunteers. As stated in previous reviews, the people working & volunteering seem to generally care about animals here. It literally breaks my heart to see so many pups that are currently housed there and everywhere around DFW. Me & my sister were browsing rescue orgs when we stopped by this place. Leslie was our "adoption expert" and let me tell you, she was FANTASTIC. She was helpful, answered all of our questions and even helped us to look at what pups would be a good fit for our home. When coming to the shelter (this was the 5th one of the day, we had ZERO intentions of brining home a dog, we were just starting the "looking" process)... but low and behold... we fell in absolute LOVE. I had seen this little guy "blue" the min I walked in.. he's a 7 mo old lab / shepherd mix. We ended up speeding over an hour with him... and yes... we took him home. The process was quick, simple and they made sure to go over the small details and policies with you. I couldn't recommend this place more. All I can say is... WOW... this place is stunning. As I walked through the venue all I could think to myself was, "these dogs and cats have struck the jackpot by getting rescued by this place!" We had a great visit and my friends ended up adopting a pup. The only complaint I would have is that the process to adopt a dog took a while... then again, they were short-staffed that day and I know how hard it can be to get volunteers to come in sometimes. I love that this venue exists and I do wish I lived closer so I could stop by and help out sometime. Definitely worth coming if you're in the market for a pet. This place is awesome because they keep the pets in a big place so the animals can roam around in. They also let you pet the animals they have. I came here on October 24, 2013 to find a dog to adopt. The dog I got is really cute and she's the best dog ever. And I discovered she did a little modeling for a dog company. They have really good animals here and are not expensive to adopt. read more

This is an amazing shelter. I volunteer here on a regular basis and have done everything from laundry to walking dogs to adoption counseling. Of all the shelters I've been to or volunteered at, this one is the best! The facility is beautiful and was custom designed with input from veterinarians and other animal experts. The dogs are put on comfortable, clean pods with auto filtrating water. If you look closely, there are no corners or 90 degree angles at the SPCA - for hygienic reasons it's harder for dust bunnies to collect. The blankets and toys are cleaned everything and Hills Science Diet sponsors all the food. If you go outside in the back, you'll see a series of covered dog runs and four large play yards (one even has an agility course in it!). I love coming here and working with the animals. One of the best things about it is that there is a behavioral team that evaluates each of the animals and works with them to become more adoptable. This really touches my heart because my dog Mishka was considered "unadoptable" at another shelter. Her brother was quickly adopted, but she's shy and no one wanted her. She was about to be euthanized when another rescue group took her and from there I adopted her. To think of all the amazing pets out there that could just use a little TLC. The SPCA never euthanizes for lack of space and animals never have a "deadline". That's not to say that animals aren't put down when they are aggressive or when their owners request it, but the SPCA really is a loving shelter. Absolutely terrible organization. They chip the animal so you can't have it adopted out any other way, no organization will take the animal, and SPCA won't take it back. Plus they do NO vetting of adopters. Boyf adopted a high strung hound because it was "cute". Took it home to a tiny apartment, didn't train it. Didn't have time for it. Well 14 months in and "cute" has no discipline, he pissed and shat all over the carpeted stairs for months, chewed through a crate, ruined 4 pairs of shoes, 2 bedspreads, a belt, and a travel pillow. Has cost me $1200+. Those people knowingly made a horrible match, and any other group I have tried to get it fostered through hangs up on me the second they hear SPCA. I will never do any business with them again. read more

I adopted my Carmela (siamese cat) from this shelter. I love her to death. The staff was really nice and really honest. They told us that Mela had chronic URI and possibly kitty herpes because she had been a shelter cat her entire life. She has both of those issues, but they are fairly easy to manage. The staff there all really seem to love their jobs and there are tons of cats and dogs to choose from. They even have hamsters and a few bunnies!!! read more

I have visited and volunteered at a few animal shelters around DFW and I have to say that this location is one of the best. I think the SPCA has been receiving a lot more attention after its glamorous renovation. After visiting for the first time last week. I quickly observed that the location is very pleasant and spacious (for both pets and people!). Each person that I encountered was super friendly. The shelter was busy on the Saturday afternoon that we went, but the staff were willing to help and constantly making sure that all the animals felt cared for. 5/5 Highly recommend if you are looking for a new companion. Most of the dogs were on average, a year old (or older) when we visited. The selection is different every time since pups and cats are constantly adopted or brought in. read more

I can't say enough about the amazingly friendly staff at the SPCA! Of course, taking your baby to get any sort of medical procedure can be scay, but when it came time for the big snip, I knew my newest little one would be safe here. I arrived super early and had to wait for about 45 minutes. But the staff is so efficient and friendly, I knew they were getting through patients as fast as they could. Before I knew it, my little one was up and I handed her over to a smiling face. The staff did a great job of letting me know she would be safe and talking me through everything I could expect. I came back to get my little nugget and the same smiling faces were there to greet me. Ten hours later! They cheerfully talked me through post-op info and let me ask any questions I needed to.
