The appointment process was incredibly easy, and I love that you can see availability at other locations in their network -- such a great feature. The staff... where do I start? From check-in, to the in-room care, to the vet visit -- everything was top notch. Dr. Maheas took the time to go over all of my concerns, and as a slightly freaked-out dog dad, I had plenty. She created a simple plan, explained everything clearly, and made sure I felt comfortable with the next steps. The staff was also great when going over pricing options. The no-pressure approach was so refreshing. Clear prices, fair prices, and no surprises -- which is rare and very appreciated. They have a really aggressive pricing. They lie about how much something will be and then last minute be like oh yeah the teeth cleaning will be 4500 and here is a long bill, then the bill will have repeating items for things i paid for already. Overall, very private equity pricing- nothing to do with the pets getting better service. I say try to go anywhere else but modern animal. They also just lack the professionalism- instead of saying upfront it's basically 3500 for each cat, they said it was 800 and then added bunch of stuff later on after i put my cats to sleep on gaba. Also hated the girl who tried to hide the pricing saying it was in the best interest for the cats, so i asked again and they finally showed me. They also charge for things they may use- so why not just charge after you are sure you used them. also told the doctor multiple times i can go to the VA to get his heart checked out but instead of that they said it was fine but wanted to run some extra test not covered by insurance in their office after i repeatedly told them i can take him to the va for get it cleared. this is horrible business model and should not be supported out of principle. this business model would mean less animals are rescued just for private equity pockets to get richer. Also the manager tried to poor shame cos i was appalled at the pricing and wanted to shop around and hello i did find a vet that charges 800 for full sleep and teeth cleaning. hallelujah. also no offense but 300 for rabies shot is also insane. read more

Dr. Storm is a brilliant, dedicated professional who is an absolute blessing and an all-around good human being! As a woman of color, I must navigate the medical system to advocate for myself, and I assumed this would not happen with my dog's medical care especially because he's so darn cute Sadly, I've learned with my rescue's complicated genetic history, multiple and ongoing health issues and two hospitalizations that I am still not always heard. At one appointment (not with Dr. Storm), Hercules was not examined and I was told repeatedly that he was okay then we were sent home. Subsequently we went home, and Hercules condition deteriorate. The following day we were booked with Dr. Storm for the first time. For our first visit with Dr. storm, I had written points on a sticky note, prepared to fight and advocate for my dog. As soon as we walked into the clinic, Hercules began vomiting multiple times in the lobby while we were in the examination room Hercules also vomited multiple times so I felt even more livid that we had just gone to the same clinic yesterday and I was not heard. Due to the visit the day before, I was verbally aggressive with Dr. Storm who remained calm, patient and professional as she demonstrated her heart for her profession, my unfortunate visit and the health of my suffering puppy. I began to cry. I felt heard and I was not full of fear for my dog's life, I felt heard. Dr. Storm showed me that I will never have to fight for the care of my dear sweet rescue and that Hercules is Health will always be a collaborative process. Modern Animal has many veterinarians, staff and medical technicians who are absolutely amazing but once in a while, I've had experiences that feel as if my insight, knowledge and observations are not useful but our pets are just like our children so care should be a collaborative process. With Dr. Storm, I am comfortable with asking questions to understand processes, options, risks, and side effects. My appointment was August 27, 2026, and I was extremely clear how concerned I am that my cat has had diarrhea for almost a year. I explained that I have been to three other vet's with zero results. For some reason every Vet that I've gone to tries to remedy in the same way,and that is a fecal test. It seems to be a money maker for them. This time, I had to take the feces sample from my cat myself and drive it back to their office, further delaying any type of treatment or diagnosis I've never had to do this before, generally they take the feces when you come for an appointment/examination. I explained to Modern Animal that I've already tried fecal test, however, they told me they needed to do it, even though they had records from the other vets. I don't think they bothered reading the results from the other vets, because they were asking me questions that should've been plainly written in the notes. I tell them over and over again that I'm concerned with my cat and that he's lost 10 pounds. When I finally receive an email back from them, it reads that my Cat is fine and no follow up visit is necessary. My cat is dying and they couldn't care less. They do not listen. In fact, all they wanted to do is rush to the next patient In fact, they were having conversations about the following patient in front of me; they couldn't even bother to finish speaking about my concerns during my visit. The only successful thing they've done so far is to take over $400 from me. The only communication I've received from them are numerous emails with them asking me to give a review. Nothing concerning my Cat, just multiple emails asking for a review. If you want to be overcharged and under served, while watching your cat die, then I recommend them. read more

Lovely venue that honestly doesn't feel like a traditional vet at all. The space is modern, calm, and welcoming, which immediately puts both pets and owners at ease. The staff is beyond friendly, and the doctors are attentive, thorough, and genuinely caring. You never feel rushed, and it's clear they truly prioritize the well-being of the animals. Free parking right outside is also a big plus and makes visits much easier. Prices are definitely on the higher end, but in this case, you really do get what you pay for. I'm ok to spend the extra money knowing my pets are being looked after with such care and professionalism. The only downside is the limited hours. For anyone working a standard 9-5 job, it can be challenging to find an appointment time that fits without taking time off work. We made the switch to Modern Animal In attempt to find a better vet in our area. Our first visit for a basic check up, vaccines and flea medication went well for our two cats. However my experience changed yesterday when I brought my 2 year old cat in since he had been vomiting bile and not eating for 24 hours. Out of an abundance of caution and fear of an obstruction I opted to have his blood work and X-rays done. Yes I knew this would be expensive but knew it was the right thing to do to rule out an obstruction or something more serious. The other part of his visit would include fluids and an injection for nausea. This part of the visit was the most important to me so he could get immediate relief. They took him back and told me he needed to be sedated as he became combative to having a blood draw and X-rays. I agreed to this as I also didn't want him to become more stressed. I went home and awaited the results and to pick him up. The vet called me and said his blood work was normal and his X-rays didn't show an obstruction. She said fluids would be administered and a shot for nausea and to pick him up in 45 min. I came back to pick him up only for the vet to say they over sedated him and reversed it and thus weren't able to give him fluids and his anti nausea shot. I was very confused by this. She instead instructed me to give him anti nausea pills at home. Keep in mind I've never given a cat a pill before let alone when he would even gag at the smell of food. I didn't see how this was helpful to my cat or me. She also wanted to give me an appetite stimulant however they were out of stock. Of course...they also tried to make an appointment at a different location In Long Beach the next day to get fluids etc since their location was closed. Is that a joke? I wasn't going to drive all the way down there the next day. I live in El Segundo. I left very displeased and ended up taking him to el Segundo animal hospital that same day. Keep in mind my cat was still sedated. They easily gave him fluids and the anti nausea shot and the appetite medication. All with less than an hour. How is a "Modern" and expensive vet office seeing this as acceptable service. We paid $1200 and my cat left with no relief and no waiving of the office visit at the least. They are fancy and the place smells nice and has a good app and free drinks etc but when it comes to performance look elsewhere. read more

Shady business practice. Super disappointed in this trend specifically with chain store vets. Sure, $99 for a year sounds good. It is really one vet visit. Their labs are generally 150% higher than the actual cost from a reputable vet, then they push more labs. They had taken a urine specimen that came back as having some bacteria, then said they wanted to do another lab on urine they already had for an additional $263.00 typically (75-125 by the way) after I had already spent $300.00 on a blood test and labs (usually 150) . This is the typical scam happening these days. We can do better for our pets. It feels like a mob operation, corporation vet clinics who prioritize unethical profit over realistic veterinary care. My daughter and I both bring our dogs to Modern Animal. She regularly attends this location, while I typically go to whichever location is most convenient for me. However, this location in particular has a serious and consistent problem with respecting appointment times. If you book an appointment here, be prepared to sit and wait far beyond your scheduled time. This is not an occasional issue or a one-time inconvenience. This has happened repeatedly and you're expected to be on their timing. Every single time my daughter has came in the past year she has waited 15+ minutes to see a doctor after the appointment time then waited another 15+ minutes after the doctor has left to get a vaccine or medication. If you make a complaint be prepared for them to rush you out of the door you can even say what card you wanna use before they processed payment and kick you out the door. They are very forgetful here so be prepared to triple check everything. What is incredibly frustrating is the double standard. If a client is 10 to 15 minutes late, the clinic is quick to call, threaten cancellation, and emphasize the importance of being on time. Yet when the clinic itself is running 15 to 30 plus minutes behind, clients are simply expected to sit there indefinitely and "be patient" because of staffing issues or other appointments. Respectfully, your staffing issues are not the client's responsibility especially at these prices. Appointments are advertised as 30 minutes, yet after arriving on time clients are then informed that visits may actually take anywhere from 30 minutes to over an hour depending on what the clinic has going on internally. That is something that should be disclosed BEFORE the appointment, not after. "We're sorry" does not change the fact that your scheduling issues directly impact other people's responsibilities outside of your clinic. It's so annoying and they don't care they just want you to call them and tell them what's wrong but even if you do.... That does NOTHING. read more

Finding a new vet can be such a hassle, especially for us since we were coming from the east coast. Have been a member of Modern animal since moving to Los Angeles in 2022, and have been coming to the clinic in Manhattan beach since moving to the South Bay in 2023. My wife and I have nothing but good things to say about this clinic and their treatment of our furbaby Coco. The entire staff is attentive and amazing for keeping Coco comfortable during exams, blood draws etc.. Everyone is just so amazing, especially Dr. Friedman who we have mostly seen over the past couple of years. She does an amazing job of explaining things to us and has taken excellent care of Coco. If medications are needed they usually have some stock of antibiotics and other medications in house, and if other medications are needed they provide a pharmacy that will ship the medications to you ASAP. We are so happy to be part of the modern animal family and will continue to bring Coco in for her care. Would definitely recommend this clinic to anyone in the area. read more

Dr. Dunn / Modern Animal did an amazing job with my cat's dental cleaning and scaling! We were nervous about the procedure because our pet would need to undergo general anesthesia, and there was also a chance he would need surgical extractions. Thankfully no extractions were found to be needed, and now his teeth look SO healthy and clean, unrecognizable from when they were caked in plaque. The pricing on the website for the procedure is accurate/transparent as well. Shout-out to Shannon too who was so kind and communicated updates throughout the day through the app. She even sent photos of my cat to show me how he was doing. One thing to note is that owners are responsible for administering pre-meds for the procedure which can be a challenge for cats. But there are backup methods of giving the meds at the office if not feasible. Glad we chose Modern Animal for feline dental treatment! read more
