Last year I did a complete kitchen renovation and we chose Modern Cabinets to build all my kitchen cabinets. It turns out the best decision we made in this project. It's been a pleasant experience communicating with Tina and Joe. They were very responsibe to our inquires. This was our first time to place order directly with a cabinet maker. Tina explained clearly what the steps we will need to take. Usually she responded to my email within 24 hours and sometimes on the same day. We were invited back to the factory to customize the design. It was so fun! We dictated how wide/tall each cabinet should be and Joe mad it happen righ there on the big screen. It took 7 weeks to get my cabinets ready. When it's ready, Tina invited us back to the factory again to inspect the product. She was very patient answering our questions, showing all the components and never hesitated to ask workers there to demostrate us how to remove/install cabinet doors and drawers. The quality of the cabinets is excellent. When I compared the details with another other options that my contractor's partner offered, both quality and thickness of wood and the craftmanship of manufacturing are much more superior than other options. I have no doubt in my mind that the 7 weeks is worth waiting and my family will enjoy those cabinets in years to come. Even my contractor told me I made a good choice and he liked the cabinets a lot. At the end of installation I realized two cabinet shelvies are missing. I email Tina about it. In 2 days, the shelves are sitting by my front door. Yes, their service is that good! From our first interaction with Tina, we knew we were in the right place! We wanted to do most of our kitchen remodel ourselves, everything from floor to ceiling and demo'd the kitchen ourselves. We drew our plans, picked out the cabinet styles, colors, design, and custom extras like deep drawers for pots and pans, built in racks for cutting boards, and hidden trash/recycle bins. Joe came out and measured, and he gave us some great ideas which we incorporated. We returned to look at the 3D renderings, and with just a few tweaks it was a perfect layout. Joe is the savant of custom cabinet making! Ten years ago they did my kitchen cabinets. To this day I cannot figure out how they were so accurate to be able to take measurements of raw open construction (pre-drywall) and make the cabinets fit perfectly the first time! I was dumbfounded because the kitchen had a strange shape to it and Joe nailed it! I just got a new home and had Modern Cabinets do the kitchen, and all of the bathrooms and built in shelving in the Family and Living Rooms. Again, they did an amazing job. Their prices are essentially wholesale. So much better and cheaper than any Home Depot, Lowes or other custom cabinet makers. Most importantly, Tina, Joe and John are decent people and care about the work they do. What a great experience. From Joe coming out 2x to measure as we realized that the wall we wanted to demo was a load bearing wall and we had to rethink on the design. Tina was so very helpful and offered good advice and Fernando installed my cabinets and they all made sure we were completely happy and we are. We would recommend them to anyone wanting to get a custom fit of cabinets for you home projects. I got lazy susan on both of the bottom corners, an open shelf, spice rack, spoon drawer, under sink organizer and one of my favorites is the trash bin is now hidden. Would highly recommend this company for anyone looking to get new cabinets! We are very happy with our cabinets and felt the price we paid was more than reasonable. We worked with a designer for our kitchen and family room remodel who told us that only 12" deep cabinets were available for our entire wall of cabinets in the family room. Joe at Modern Cabinets told us we could have any depth we wanted. We ended up with the most beautiful cabinets we could have imaged, and they are 22" deep. The workmanship is flawless and it is very apparent they take pride in a job well done. I will address the poor customer service a prior review mentions. They don't have that "polish" when it comes to working with the public, perhaps because they are used to dealing directly with contractors. They just need to learn how to schmooze a little better. During demolition of our kitchen, a support beam was discovered right where a cabinet was supposed to go so some major modifications needed to be made. We ended up splitting the cost with the contractor to have another cabinet built. Because the new cabinet was built and painted after the others there was a concern that the paint would not be an exact match. We did become frustrated because there was a lack of communication when there was a considerable delay in getting the new cabinet. However, it ended up that Modern Cabinets was not satisfied with the replacement paint color and had to send it back several times before they were happy. This attention to detail resulted in a PERFECT match. The bottom line is that every project has its challenges and there will be frustration along the way. What my husband and I cared about is that the end product is something we will be happy with for a very long time. Whether or not someone is a slick salesperson who knows just the right thing to say in every situation matters far less than if they are masters at their craft. The people at Modern Cabinets are proud of their workmanship and it shows. read more

After three years of normal use, the doors on and near the dishwasher began to warp from contact with steam, and the finish on the refrigerator doors began to wear off. You may think going to a custom cabinet maker is more expensive than a big store like Home Depot. Not true. Better Cabinets, better service at a better price. I love how easy this was to pick and order my cabinets. Tina provided personalized service and pointed out things to me only a pro would know, helping me make such a difficult decision. This was one of the easiest steps in my home remodel. Everything was straight forward, no guessing about the price, steps or dates. Great installers too. I just completed cabinets with modern for a kitchen and three baths. They were great though the whole process including installation. If you're even thinking of a major remodel using stock cabinets - give Modern a try. Unlike stock cabinet companies they do not nickle and dime you for every 'feature', they honor their prices, and the workmanship appears first rate. You can customize whatever you want. The only drawback is they don't have a fancy showroom with lots of sales people: make an appointment. I see the negative review on the small job. Certainly not reflective my experience at all. Not sure why my last comment was deleted, but this is what I posted: Wow, there are not enough superlatives to describe my interaction with Modern Cabinet representatives. I had water damage in my 34 year old kitchen. Everything had to be torn out. Joe came to my home and we sketched out my dream kitchen with all the bells and whistles of modern cabinetry. Once the design was in place (yes on a computer screen so I could see it), Tina helped me with finding the perfect cherry stain (there are many). I also had an idea of creating a floating island that I could use with my 3 little granddaughters when we have our sleep overs and do cooking shows that grandpa makes DVD's from. To actually see it come from my head to reality just blows my mind. Everything I asked for (including glass in some cabinet doors), soft closing everything, special spaces for cookie sheets, revision after I realized I could upgrade my stove from 30 to 36 inches has been realized. You just cannot get that from the big box stores. Which includes the quality of the wood, stain, selection......custom to your littlest detail. The personalities of everyone in the shop is you asked for it and we will give it to you with a friendly, can do spirit. I will be recommending Modern Cabinet to all that will listen, and some that will not!!!! I was amazed at how reasonable custom cabinets actually are. Yes, they are more than the big box stores, but the quality and ability to get exactly what you want is so worth it. I just cannot wait until my kitchen is completed. Modern Cabinets came through with flying colors. We couldn't be happier with the final product on our kitchen remodel. The cabinets have been in for 6 months now and everything works beautifully. Our original cabinet maker imploded and dropped the ball on us in a big way but Modern Cabinets came in and got us back on track quickly. Joe did an excellent job getting the plans on his CAD system and made small modifications that improved the efficiency of our small kitchen. It was great seeing the different elevations of the kitchen ahead of time too. Tina did a great job communicating time lines for job completion during COVID especially during the shutdown they incurred as a result of the pandemic. I was very pleased at their attention to detail during the installation process. A couple to small adjustments/corrections needed to be made to the cabinets during installation and they were tended to in a timely manner. Our contractor recommended Modern Cabinets and we went out to their site before making a decision. We liked that the equipment they used is all computer controlled, so things are cut exactly to the measurements needed. Our layout required a very precise fit. Modern Cabinet also helped with a design for the "back" side of a long peninsula cabinet . The staff there worked together to come up with a beautiful custom solution that makes that cabinet bank a centerpiece. We wanted a finish that we had seen somewhere else, but didn't have samples, just photos. Modern Cabinets worked with us until they had the finish we wanted. Our cabinets installed beautifully, just a few small corrections were needed, and we ordered some additional shelves, which they produced quickly. We were also able to order the exact door style we wanted. We had the opportunity to work with Modern Cabinets a year and a half later when our brand new faucet failed and the water pooled on the granite and then ran down the sink cabinet front. We had to have two cabinet doors replaced and we were really worried about recreating that same finish. Modern Cabinets came through again with a perfect match. They are located in Pittsburg, CA but they do work in Los Angeles, Las Vegas and San Diego and wherever there is a job... I just had a set of Kitchen cabinets made for my Kitchen and the cabinets were made in a timely manner and the quality was all wood interiors.. The cabinets were built on time at their estimated time frame.. As a owner builder and General contractor.. I know what I am looking for.. The quality of materials and the finish is excellent.. Having a East Bay cabinet company compared to a out of state company that many of the Home Depots and Lowe's uses.. I am able to visit their manufacturing facility in the East Bay. Modern Cabinets did a great job on the custom cabinets for my condo. I am extremely pleased with how my cabinets turned out -- they look amazing and the price is fair considering all the extra work that goes into making high end custom cabinets. I worked with Tina (runs the office) and she delivered on every single aspect we discussed, including the 2-3 week timeframe to make my cabinets. I asked for extra self closing drawers in my cabinets, a utensil organizer, a towel rack and she had no problem including those in my order without charging me more, even after we settled on a price. She also told me to bring in the handles I wanted so that they could install them for me which was a nice gesture. The little things definitely matter to me and Modern Cabinets certainly pays attention to the details. They were able to finish the job completely including delivery in exactly 3 weeks which I was happy about so you can expect quick turnarounds if you are on a tight schedule with your remodel. On top of it all, everyone at the shop is laser focused on customer service and doing whatever it takes to make YOU happy. Joe, John & Tina are all great people and I highly recommend using them if you are looking for quality work and a smooth process. I can't say enough about Tina, Joe & their crew. We had cabinets built for our new kitchen almost 4 years ago. We have had some issues with them, but never wanted to say anything as I felt like Modern did a great job and the issue was with the paint quality not them. However, Finally I had them take a look at them a couple weeks ago and they were AMAZING!! Fernando came and was the sweetest, kindest person (lucky to have him to do any work in your hours), he said "we cannot leave you with a kitchen like this, our kitchens need to stay perfect". He took my cabinets on the spot and Modern cabinets are fixing the entire problem. They are replacing my entire kitchen 4 years later!!! This is the character of an excellent contractor and supplier. Blain worked his magic and came up with the perfect color -- I was so pleased with his work. My vanities look absolutely beautiful and are designed exactly as I specified. Modern Cabinet made three large cabinets when we remodeled two of our bathrooms in 2012. They did a beautiful job and we were very happy with their work. But what just happened really impressed me. One of the drawers got stuck closed and I discovered a broken part on one of the "Soft close" sliding hinges. I called and asked if they have any hinges I could buy and was told to just come out and they will give me a new sliding hinge!! Now that is standing behind your product. My experience with this company was very BAD. The office lady is very unprofessional and not reliable. The product was not ready in time as promised. I met with Joe the cabinet maker himself and he is a nice guy but their operation is lacking service as promised. So once Joe turns it over to his front office you are screwed. Trust me, find a better and more professional place to do business with or you will be very sorry. I wish I could be more positive but they don't deserve a good review at all. read more
