Love this place! The Modern Eye staff are amazing - fun, knowledgeable and didn't try and force me into anything. They also put up with my indecisiveness when I needed to make several trips back (to try on the same 3 pairs) before making a decision. Once I made the choice, my glasses we ready the next day! Well, I went into Modern Eye thinking that it look like it was a high-end glasses provider. I have a high glasses prescription and these are the types of places I've gone in the past to get my glasses looking nice and thin. Well needless to say, I put my glasses order in on May 24, 2008 and have yet to receive them. They said they would take about 2 weeks at the longest and it's been longer! The glasses came in after many calls and the lenses weren't even polished! They had to send them back out again! Then they finally came back I CALLED THEM and was told by the manager that they are polished and look great and that I can pick them up! Then I get a call the SAME day saying that they are broken and need to be sent back! I'm paying close to 600 bucks for these things and they've broken before I even wore them! Needless to say I'll be asking for a significant discount from them and will be writing ANOTHER review once I actually get my glasses. Modern Eye? I think not... I coulda went to Lenscrafters for all of this! read more

I placed an order for contacts with Modern Eye and was told it would take 4-5 days for the contacts to come in. On the fifth day, I had not heard back. I called to check on the status of my order and was told it would take another week! So be warned, allow plenty of time for contact orders. read more

These guys came highly recommended from a friend, so I went in with high expectations. Here is a recap of my visit: 1. Walk up to front desk where 4 people were standing around chatting. One of them kinda offered to help me and told me to go upstairs. 2. Go upstairs, have someone (not a doctor) give me an high-tech eye exam and take pictures of my eyes. 3. Sit and wait for doctor for 20 minutes. 4. See doctor who talks to me and asks questions while looking at his computer (not so much with eye contact with his patient). 5. Eye exam done fine, but doctor tells me the dude who took pics of my eye has to redo one of them because it wasn't good enough. 6. Retake pic and told to wait for doc (another 10 minutes) before he comes out and says, "what are you still doing here?" Apparently he didn't need to see me after the new pic. 7. Try to pay before leaving and am standing in front of front desk again with same 4 people standing chatting and no one attempts to help me. At this point I was tempted to just walk out and see if they noticed but one guy finally said, "are you waiting to check out?" Yep, you bet I am. 8. I was told (incorrectly it turns out) that my insurance doesn't cover the visit and that they would happily call Aetna to confirm this but it would take a 20-minute phone call and they just weren't into that. 9. I pay and then they try to sell me $1,000 frames made out of wood. I tell them I'm going to Warby Parker and they trash them. 10. Still waiting for my new prescription and the sample contacts doc promised to order. This was almost two weeks ago. 11. Disappointed and hoping to find a new place to go. read more

hands down, this place was great. i hate going to the optometrist, there's just something about trusting a person prodding you in your eye... however,i was there for like 4 hours... it was a blast! who knew going to the optometrist would be like hanging out at a coffee shop with uber awesome people?!? they helped me with my glasses, helped me with my eye problems, and offered me a coke. it was pricey, but hey, i'm gonna look stellar with my new two-toned magenta frames. thanks to you: the good people of modern eye (bil, will, bry,etc.)!!! read more

I think I have a crush on my eye doctor. He smelled like cologne and bubble gum. Actually the combination of cologne and bubble gum is a good description of Dr Bryan. He's like a grown up kid.. he's a doctor but wears vans.. my kind of dude. Dr Bryan is so nice and patient I would tell everyone and their mother to go visit him. You can tell he loves what he does (as he is the co-owner of the store if I'm not mistaken) and it's expressed in every aspect of the shop. Everyone who works here is super nice and patient. I went in on a saturday afternoon when I could bring a friend to help me pick out a new pair of glasses. The woman working with us, Beth, couldn't have been nicer. She made me feel like she was another one of my friends just having fun trying on glasses. I never felt like I was keeping her from something more important or that I was being silly for wanting to try on.. "just one more...". I picked out a pair of glasses and couldn't be happier with them. Also a big shout-out to John who helped me on the actual day that I bought the glasses who encouraged me to try on "just one more.." to make sure I was 100% sure I wanted the ones I was going to buy. I think that modern eye might be a little pricier than your four-eyes or america's best but you're getting designer glasses - it's worth it! I don't think you over pay for what you're getting, they have quality stuff here. Also they couldn't have been better about getting me every discount with my vision insurance - which I appreciate to the max! If you need glasses or contacts get your butt down here quick! I don't frequent the eye doctor often but Modern Eye was the best experience I've ever had. They were casual, friendly, and laid back without being unprofessional. I felt at ease the whole time and the employees assisting with glasses selections and check out were extremely helpful and actually did a better job picking my frames for me than I could've done myself. The glasses selections, while not cheap (as others noted), are worth every penny. I'd rather spend the money to look and feel good than get $60 frames at some mall chain eye center. And my frames were ready the very next day to top it off! read more

The guys at Modern Eye aren't as funny as they think they are (just kidding, guys, you're kind of funny), but they know their stuff. My girlfriend and I have bought 6-7 pairs of glasses and prescription sunglasses here over the years, and they all look great. The staff is really good at helping you pick glasses that fit your face shape and complexion, and they'll seriously work with you for an hour while you try on dozens of frames. They always remember their repeat customers, and if you go during the summer and are lucky, Will might even give you some free grilling advice. read more

I've been going to Dr. B for years, and he never disappoints. He has taken such great care of my eyes and never makes me feel rushed (despite the fact that I know he has a very busy schedule!). He's always able to answer all of my questions, and goes out of his way to explain anything he's doing or attempting to test. The staff is also always incredibly nice and attentive. I was a bit nervous to buy new glasses, as I hadn't gotten a new pair in 10 years and I feel like I'm not a good judge of how glasses look on me. I went in to Modern Eye based on the reviews I read online and it was definitely a good move. The guy behind the counter was very friendly and patient with me - I'm sure I spent at least an hour in there trying on dozens of pairs of glasses - and most of all, he was honest about the way each pair looked, while still respecting the criteria I had requested, i.e. nothing too trendy that I would get sick of in a couple of years, and nothing too outrageously priced. I called to ask a question of this store and was treated very, very rudely and inappropriately, all because the representative who answered did not know a fairly common visual term that I mentioned. The employee actually pretended to know what the term meant, then pretended additionally to know something about my insurance coverage. He was wrong on both counts but seemed not to know or care about the difference between knowing and not knowing a thing (a thing it was the business of the store to know about). The last thing you want in an eye store is an employee who doesn't understand or respect the difference between knowing and not knowing about eyes and insurance coverage! And you certainly don't want to be treated utterly rudely. Ironically, I had actually tried to allow for the guy's not knowing the vision term, because sometimes people without much knowledge of vision answer the phone in eye stores (strange as that might seem). I did this by first asking him in a neutral way if he knew what the term meant. He blurted out aggressively and blamingly, "I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT." When I spoke to the manager about this bizarre behavior, the manager seemed to try rather mechanically to see if he could "start over" with me, without spending much time at all offering a very convincing apology. When I tried to make this point to him, he was only interested in correcting me and stating that "in fact I apologized when you first mentioned the incident." From this strange pair of phone conversations, I learned that this store suffers from a culture of always having to be right, and then blaming the customer if a chink in the armor of "rightness" (such as apologizing perfunctorily and hastily or not knowing a vision term) appears. I learned that an employee would rather make a mistake based on an inaccurate assumption than have the humility to ask what a condition is or simply admit that he doesn't know. I learned that rude treatment of customers is effectively supported by this store. I would have spent about $500 here and had been looking forward to visiting the store because of the apparent pattern of good reviews. I will certainly dis-recommend this store strongly to friends and associates. read more

Jeez! Where to start? Probably the most important thing I've received from Modern Eye is the best exam and prescription I've ever had. They literally solved an issue that I was beginning to think was mental rather than physiological. They have an amazing selection of frames in a wide price range. The first time I went I assumed I would get frames somewhere else because everything looked like it would be too expensive for me. I didn't get the sense that I was treated any differently because I was looking for something more affordable and I ended up with awesome frames that I love wearing and that I could afford. The staff is down to earth and unpretentious. They make shopping for glasses enjoyable. They listen to you. They are incredibly professional while being very friendly and fun. They value every person that walks in the door (or at least pretend to very well). They have a lot of repeat business (including me). Love love love Modern Eye.
