After a really bad experience with contacts (like horrific) at another place, a friend recommended Modern Eye. Everyone there during my two visits has been fantastic. On my first visit, I got new glasses using my current prescription. The staff was funny but gently honest about their opinions as I tried on the frames. I felt no pressure at all. A few weeks later I had an exam there with the hopes of getting contacts. The exam was thorough and the doctor really took the time to explain what she was doing, why she was doing it, what she was finding, and possible options as a result. She really helped me make informed choices. Marian helped me with the fitting. She was patient, funny, and supportive. I will admit that I was probably much more cautious than most people putting them in and removing them because of my past experience. We talked about a lot of different ways to put them in and remove them, and really focused on me to help me to understand what I could do better to make it easier. She was absolutely FANTASTIC. Other places I have been to had the feel of an old department store. Modern Eye feels like hanging out at a friend's house, but everyone at the house happens to be an expert on vision. I bought my glasses at the other location but my review applies to them too. An amazing purchasing experience. I bought by glasses while my eyes were dilated and had to go by the employees taste. They were very attentive and fun and provided me with awesome glasses and a fun time. The docs and technicians at Modern Eye are the nicest, "hippest," and most helpful group of eye-care employees I've ever met. This place actually makes shopping for eye-wear fun and stress free. One tech took 45 minutes out of his day to help me find the right frames. Instead of leaving the guess work to me, he was like a personal shopper, putting frames on my face that I never would have chosen for myself, but were trendy and comfortable. i'm in love with the staff. they're so cool, attractive, and offbeat in the best way that i felt cooler than normal just having stepped in the store. i came in with the embaressing and ridiculous request to buy a pair of glasses with a non prescription lens (yes, simply because i wanted to look cool). while i was aware that the request is somewhat silly, they didn't make me feel wierd and instead spent as much time as needed helping me find the perfect fashiony pair of glasses. legit i probably spent an hour or so in there, trying on all different frames. styles range from crazy to high fashion (aka miu miu) as do the prices. they're also very good about calling u and getting ur glasses to u as soon as possible. i've worn my fake frames ever since and get compliments all of the time! read more

I don't wear glasses - I know, then why the hell am I reviewing this place? Because if I did wear glasses, I would go to Modern Eye for them. I've been here a handful of times to give advice to my bf's mom and, just today, dad about new frames. The first time I showed up to meet his mom we also had a lunch date we were trying to make. She let the staff know, and they made everything quick and easy, streamlining her visit to maximize her time there so we could make our reservation. She had a check-up and then we only had a few moments to look over the frames before dashing out, but we returned a few days later to spend more quality time examining the various styles. They carry a ton of different styles and colors, and if they don't have it in stock they'll order it for you. One of the staff had ordered her a pair of frames in this gorgeous green color - she had wanted a pair that were fun and a little funky, and these were exactly that! She made sure that the frames sat well on her face and weren't too wide/narrow, and she was honest when a pair of red frames brought out the red in her complexion. Today I went with the bf's dad (and mom joined as well) to pick him out a new pair of frames, ones that were stylish but also professional (not the easiest of tasks). The entire staff was fantastic; we started with one guy who was pulling frames left and right, listening to our opinion and also showing us styles we might have overlooked, and the next thing we knew the entire store was offering their opinion! We found this one pair that's really awesome; the frames are flexible, and aren't attached with screws so you can sit on them and they'll fall apart without breaking and are easily put back together! When his mom joined us there, the guys helping us told me to show her how unique these frames were so I just slammed my hand down on them, causing her to gasp. There will be several pranks pulled with these frames, I can guarantee. Modern Eye is amazing - awesome frames ranging from reasonable prices to more expensive and a great doctor - but I have to say its the staff that does it for me. Where else can you just chat about the bamboo you are trying to remove before it takes over your property and have fun "destroying" nearly indestructible glasses? read more

My main reason for visiting Modern Eye was the glasses selection. I've worn contacts pretty much exclusively for the last 10 years simply because every optometrist I visit has hideous glasses. I used my VSP insurance to get both an eyeglass and contact lens exam, planning to get glasses with my insurance and later order contacts. When I arrived for my appointment, the staff was lovely and super helpful but the female doctor I saw seemed to be in a hurry, rushing me in and out. At one point, after dilating my pupils, I came back 15 minutes later (per her instructions) and she asked if she could step out to run an errand. I think the look on my face clearly expressed "no" so she continued with the exam, in record time. I realized later that the prescription in my right eye was way off and had to reschedule another appointment to get it fixed. The second doctor was much better but kept me waiting 30 minutes beyond my appointment time. My glasses, the main reason for coming here, are really gorgeous and I was able to choose a pair within my budget, despite the fact that 90% of the glasses were over $500. I was really concerned that because my contact prescription was wrong, the glasses were likely wrong, too, but the gentleman working the counter assured me this wasn't the case but had no real explanation why. He also couldn't pronounce the last name of the doctor I saw, so needless to say, I'm skeptical. To add insult to injury, when I tried to order contacts through Walgreens and submitted a request, I got an email back saying my request was denied because "No such patient exists." Yeah. I was there twice in the last month. So in the end, I'm really unhappy with my experience at Modern Eye. All those optometrists with the un-hip glasses? Well, they were incredibly professional and went to great lengths to ensure my prescriptions were correct and I never had any trouble ordering contacts. Now that I have my super cool frames, I will likely go elsewhere in the future. read more

Since the day I first wore glasses, I stayed with the family at New World Vision Center. However, I have felt that I haven't seen the big picture in terms of ECP quality and services, especially my last visit. Change was inevitable. I was initially undecided between Modern Eye and one other location nearby. My gut feeling and, believe it or not, the website's presentability brought me to Modern Eye. Hearing appointments had extended into March further cemented my decision to come here. I was in luck for an appointment on 2/18, the day after I called. I filled out a new patient registration form and insurance claim form since my insurance can't 'sing' with Modern Eye. I wasn't expecting much help from it anyway and I sure don't turn away once step in unless there's something very wrong. The exam was excellent. Dr. Machamer took his time getting the most accurate Rx and thorough exam. There were equipment used I've never seen before. I've never even had my eyes dilated until now, which was a cool experience (sunglasses/inserts were provided to help with the light). Also the first time using a digital PD meter. Coming from a subpar ECP, I was impressed on how the exam went. The 50% off frame & lens deal was pretty good, but I just had to bring in a Burberry frame I really liked on me. I also had a good idea on the type of lens I wanted, which was 1.67 Crizal Avance with Transitions. I was given warrantee info on the lens I was considering, something I don't get often. The lens was a bit pricey and although I did get a discount, it was worth it anyway. Why? I picked up my glasses the next day when I was expecting next week! The previous frame I received took 3 weeks to complete. The glasses are perfect and the edges are nicely polished, which is a first. I couldn't have asked for more. I'll be coming back next year! read more

I got my eye exam here. They do a thorough job and I had no problems. Very nice helpful staff. The problem is that most of their frames are pretty expensive. After the exam, I tried on different glasses and found a pair I liked. When I asked the price, they were $495 for the frames alone. I cant afford that even with an insurance discount. Sadly, for me, I dont think they have a large selection under $300. They do have some of the most interesting frames in town and this would certainly have to be a long term investment. read more

I got into the eyeglass racket at the ripe old age of three. Having notoriously bad eyesight (nearsighted, far sighted, amblyopia, with a bonus astigmatism) I have been to every type of eye care professional imaginable. I dreaded the examinations, the endless prescription tweaking, the paltry selection of frames and the general I helpfulness of the whole mess. That is until 2009 when a coworker suggested I give Modern Eye a shot. The staff is bare none the best in this and any field. Jeez Louise, they are so helpful professional and patient it's mind boggling. I have most often had Dr Bryan for eye exams and he is wonderful. He's answered every question I've had about vision (even the kooky ones) with console explanations and insight. The doc took his time with me and left no stone unturned. I understand my vision issues better than ever before. What to expect and look out for as I age etc. Time well spent! As always my experience with picking out new eyeglasses was the best. They really know their business and I felt my sales woman was very sincere. She knew her stuff and didn't rush me at all. We looked at everything. She was also extremely knowledgeable about my insurance and utilizing it to my advantage since I was buying both glasses and sunglasses. The staff here are extremely knowledgable, and know how to treat customers. The people who work here are hilarious and genuinely nice people. I've talked with three or four of them on separate occasions and each and every one was extremely helpful. They ordered a pair of frames from they didn't carry in the store, and said they were happy to sell them to someone else if they didn't work out. I kept them because they were exactly what I was looking for. I don't remember completely, but I'm pretty sure they even gave me a student discount, or something of the like.
