Nicely renovated cozy restaurant on Denman serving up a large variety of curries , naan, Biryani, and vegetarian options. Servings were generous and the curries were rich and full of flavour. Each offering a clearly different taste. The Lababdar paneer curry was the favourite with a complex rich creamy cashew sauce. The pulao rice was a good serving and nicely seasoned. Veggie Pakoras were nicely seasoned, not too spicy or heavy and a good crunch. Offering goat, lamb, beef and chicken. Service was great and welcoming.

The service was understated but warm and friendly. The food was flavorful and the 2 of us had plenty of leftovers for tomorrow's dinner!

Broad assortment of Indian favorites, well prepared. The vegetarian korma was particularly good. The tandoori mixed grill is a great assortment, with especially delicious fish. Limited beer and wine list.

I accidentally stumbled upon Modern Handi when looking for some comfort food and while I have been ordering from them for ages, this was my first time actually in the restaurant. The staff was super courteous and attentive. We ordered a chicken biryani (mild) as well as daal tadka. The daal tadka was the only jain option (food without onion and garlic) that they had. However, the Jain person with us said it was one of the best daal tadka they have had in some time. The biryani is also one of the best that I have tried across the globe though their mild biryani can be a little hot as well so do mention you want it extra mild! If you are craving for some authentic Indian food, this is the place to be!

Good is exceptionally tasty! Surprised at the bold flavors that tasted excellent! Garlic Nan amazing! Great family owned restaurant. Highly recommend!

A must try if you love Indian cuisine! A hidden gem on Denman Street, the food here was simply delicious! Best Chicken Mehti, Chicken Korma and Butter Chicken for sure! The prices are very inexpensive for being right downtown Vancouver and the portions may look smaller but those copper pots hold a lot and they give you a really generous portion of chicken. I'm a huge Chai snob and there's was some of the best I've had. You must try their garlic naan too, it's very good. Friendly service by the owners I assume and we are already planning another dinner with friends next week!

I would also describe the food as modern since there are some cool fusion dishes such as the mango burrata (I didn't end up ordering this but I wish I did!) I want to start this review by giving a big shoutout to Pemba who was our server, he was so kind and took such good care of us and recommended really good items based on what we wanted. Everything I tried from here was 10/10! Some stand out items - :: Bombay pomfret fry - OH! The masala and coating on this was sooo good we were sucking on the bones till the very end. Such a great appetizer! :: Lasooni palak burrata - I was a little apprehensive about this at first because burrata and palak didn't seem like something I would want to try but I was wrong! This was one of my favourite dishes. It was such a delicious fusion item. For dessert, I would recommend getting their soan papdi malai khwaab and their malai ghewar. Not too sweet, just perfect. For drinks, aam pana with gin is the way to go. I really cannot wait to come back and order everything again!

The channa bhatura was so good, and not something I find in most Indian restaurants. My kids shared a butter chicken entree and still had leftovers. Naan was also hot, fresh, and very good. The menu has a lot of options but not too many so that's nice. We ordered the gobi Manchurian to start and it was very yummy, but spicier than expected. At first we asked for a medium spice level when asked during ordering but after eating this appetizer we had to change it to mild for the rest of the order. I would say the spice levels are a lot higher than other places as someone who likes spicy food normally so keep in mind. We also got butter and garlic naans, paneer, and dal tadka. The naan wasn't cooked all the way at first so we had to request another well cooked, and it was better the second time. The paneer and dal was good as well, and so was the basmati rice. The quantity of rice was a lot too. Overall the food and experience here was good.

I was not expecting this restaurant to be as big as it is. The space here is truly massive, and…read morewhile it was mostly empty when we came at around 2:30 - I can picture the hubbub of activity that would be present during peak dinner hours. This does seem to be a highly recommended place to eat Indian food in Surrey. I had the Non-Veg Thali, which isn't on the menu, but the waitress helpfully let us know about. It's very customizable - and I went with garlic naan, rice, two tandoori chicken pieces, lamb vindaloo, and shahi paneer - all in a single plate! Pretty much everything was excellent. I'm not even sure where to start. The garlic naan was fantastic. Soft, buttery, with just a slight hint of garlic and lightly charred on the outside. I could honestly eat this by itself and be satisfied. Garlic naan is a staple of what I order whenever eating Indian food, and this might be the best one I've had. The shahi paneer was also great; tomato-forward, creamy, and the paneer was super soft. The lamb vindaloo was a real standout. It was immensely flavorful - not lacking for spice at all - but you don't just taste capsaicin - you taste all the cumin, cardamom, and garam mixed in with the curry. But the lamb itself is the best part of the curry; it's so tender and juicy. The absolute peak, though, was the tandoori chicken. These were two large dark meat pieces, which were cooked to absolute perfection - retaining so much juice and fat. The skin was a perfect deep orange, seasoned with a ton more spices. It's like eating fried chicken but without the breading, but this was arguably even better. The masala fries were the only thing kind of a miss - as they lacked any masala. The price of the thali was only 23 CAD. That's a pretty insane deal for how much food you get - I was unable to finish everything on my plate despite being very hungry. Honestly two people could share this and be satisfied. When you consider how much sharing and new orders for bread, rice, and curries goes on at your typical Indian restaurant, this is crazy good value. Overall, I would classify this as the best Indian food I've had outside of Asia. 9.5/10

We got the look as if we were sure we were in the right place not in a bad way but as if we were sure that was what we wanted. Every time we have visited there was no wait to get seated in fact the place is almost empty. Just a few people at a time. They are very friendly and feels like family vibes and I love that. Like mom is in the kitchen. Dad got the front door and the boys are bringing in the produce from outside. Service is great and the family is very humble and proud as they should be. Food comes out pretty quick and you can always get a drink to keep you comfortable. I got a glass of Malbec my favorite. Two people two dishes we were reminded that it is a lot of food and would be satisfied. Thankfully! Wife loves butter chicken and I love korma but got the saag my second runner up. Garlic naan and rice... we were full! End of the meal my man tells us they just finished making dessert and brought us some great bread pudding. Unexpected but they did not charge us for it and seemed very gracious for us dropping in. I would also love to see more businesses like this! I hope they thrive in 2026 and continue to do so.
