I was not expecting this restaurant to be as big as it is. The space here is truly massive, and while it was mostly empty when we came at around 2:30 - I can picture the hubbub of activity that would be present during peak dinner hours. This does seem to be a highly recommended place to eat Indian food in Surrey. I had the Non-Veg Thali, which isn't on the menu, but the waitress helpfully let us know about. It's very customizable - and I went with garlic naan, rice, two tandoori chicken pieces, lamb vindaloo, and shahi paneer - all in a single plate! Pretty much everything was excellent. I'm not even sure where to start. The garlic naan was fantastic. Soft, buttery, with just a slight hint of garlic and lightly charred on the outside. I could honestly eat this by itself and be satisfied. Garlic naan is a staple of what I order whenever eating Indian food, and this might be the best one I've had. The shahi paneer was also great; tomato-forward, creamy, and the paneer was super soft. The lamb vindaloo was a real standout. It was immensely flavorful - not lacking for spice at all - but you don't just taste capsaicin - you taste all the cumin, cardamom, and garam mixed in with the curry. But the lamb itself is the best part of the curry; it's so tender and juicy. The absolute peak, though, was the tandoori chicken. These were two large dark meat pieces, which were cooked to absolute perfection - retaining so much juice and fat. The skin was a perfect deep orange, seasoned with a ton more spices. It's like eating fried chicken but without the breading, but this was arguably even better. The masala fries were the only thing kind of a miss - as they lacked any masala. The price of the thali was only 23 CAD. That's a pretty insane deal for how much food you get - I was unable to finish everything on my plate despite being very hungry. Honestly two people could share this and be satisfied. When you consider how much sharing and new orders for bread, rice, and curries goes on at your typical Indian restaurant, this is crazy good value. Overall, I would classify this as the best Indian food I've had outside of Asia. 9.5/10 read more

Tasty Indian Bistro is indeed tasty. The name does not lie. This place is very huge so you don't really need to wait for a table in most hours and days. We went here for a Saturday lunch and got seated at a spacious table in one of the rooms. We got Indian coffee, non-vege lunch special with butter chicken, and gobi + paneer paratha thali lunch special. The Indian coffee is pretty good and strong, just a bit small in liquid volume. The non-vege lunch special is fairly scrumptious and good portions. It came with 2 pieces of tandoori chicken cooked perfectly with not much char. It also came with a choice of vegetarian curry which we opted for chana (chickpea) that is well spiced. We opted for garlic naan which had a 75 cent surcharge but it was incredibly delicious so we did not mind. Butter chicken is one of the best here - so much spice (flavor) and fairly rich. The chicken is fairly tender as well. The paratha is pretty good, something fairly new to me. The pickles are more salted than sour; it is like sour plum type of flavor and I liked them more than American pickles. The paratha has generous amount of filling, and I preferred the paneer more. Service is excellent as the waitress checked up on us a few times and made sure requests were fulfilled in a timely manner. The best indian restaurant in Vancouver. Ive been to a few and can state that this is by far the best Indian resto in Vancity. Love their food, service, ambience everything. We stopped by for lunch on a weekday and were promptly seated. They also take reservations online so do that on busier days/weekends. We ordered their lamb chops, dynamite shrimp, goat curry, bhatura & garlic naan! Everything was divine but their lamb chops - omg - i still crave for them every week!! Perfectly flavored juicy melt in your mouth chops that are screaming with flavor in every bite. The dynamite shrimp is another app that I can keep munching all night long. It does have a kick to it but you can customize the spice levels while placing your order. The goat curry was delicious and had such simple home made flavors which paired perfectly with the Indian bread. Now for dessert we were stuffed but wouldnt leave without something so ordered their ferrero crunch bar with vanilla ice cream - amazing dense ferrero bar not too sweet but perfect for someone like me who doesnt have a sweet tooth. This restaurant was well worth the drive up from Seattle. We made sure to call ahead and make a reservation. It was nice that we were able to get a table on a weekend evening but going for an early dinner also probably helped with that. The entrance is very impressive with elephant statues outside. The interiors are equally beautiful and give an upscale fancy vibe. Our server was super friendly and helpful, she mentioned the specials after we got the table. I got the Mister Truffle cocktail which was like an old fashioned with a torched orange and was paired with a small glass of maple truffle with parmesan in it. We got the malai truffle paneer appetizer which was one of the specials, which was very unique and super tasty! Followed it by the main course which was butter chicken with a garlic naan and a kalonji naan. The kalonji naan was too good and went well with the butter chicken. The servers and managers were very attentive and checked in on us multiple times to make sure everything was okay and the food was good. It really was one of the best service I've experienced. We ended the meal with another unique dish the Malpua which is not commonly found in other Indian restaurants in the area. It was very delicious and hit the spot. One of my favorite Indian restaurants in the Vancouver area. I don't usually like eggplant but their baingan barthan (spiced puréed eggplant) is so good that sometimes I crave it. Everything I've tried there has been extremely flavorful, it's some of the best Indian food I've ever had. Our server was extremely attentive, always ready if we needed anything, had questions, and gave us some recommendations of his personal favorites off the menu. We started our meal with mango lassis. Excellent. We ordered chicken curry, Shahi paneer, and goat curry. You have to order rice separately, unfortunately. We also ordered plain naaan. It's not cheap but it is high quality Indian food in the heart of Surrey. Like a sexy Indian version of Cactus but with better food. Peach Bellini - dare I say better than others in the city?? Thick and flavorful and perfect amount of boozy. Tandoori lamb chops - I didn't know what to expect but the lamb chops were cooked well done. Despite this, the flavors were amazing, especially with the sauce, which made up for the dryness of the lamb. Butter chicken - the sauce was good but the chicken a bit dry. We finally made it to Surrey area to find some real Indian cuisine. There are many to choose from, so just picked a likely candidate and were so happy with our choice. The upscale interior does not match the location next to a dentist office along Scott Road. Interesting and attractive and set the tone for a good experience. We were glad we had dressed for Vancouver instead of Bellingham! The host that greeted us was very welcoming and we were able to be seated promptly. There's a good wine and beer selection and some fun cocktails we may have to try on a return trip. Our starter was the sev puri, yummy crisp pockets with a burst of flavor throughout. Our entrees were chana masala and chicken tikka with some garlic naan and rice. Well balanced flavor, medium heat, excellent and plentiful chicken--as we hoped. I would like to return with a group so I can try many other items, especially ones I've not had. We finished with a dessert that topped the occasion; the carrot halwa was fantastic! Our wonderful server seemed so glad we ordered it, and was truly excited at our response and how much we liked it. I'm so glad we both have Nexus so we can return here and try other places as well. Tasty Indian Bistro has been a favourite of mine for many years now, and while I've lagged in writing a review for the restaurant, after our visit on Friday, it's impossible not to! To start, my family, friends, & I all have a dietary restriction where we're allium-free / Buddhist vegetarian, meaning no onion, no garlic, no leek, etc. Obviously, that can make things a bit interesting when eating out, but Tasty has officially made its way into our top three favourites! Knowing how busy the restaurant gets, we made a reservation ahead of time and were able to get seated in the patio outside. We had been seated next to their new kitchen area which was quite warm, and because we had a guest in our party who is pregnant, we asked if it would be possible to get seated closer to the windows, which the staff were so kind and accommodating with! While the highlight of most restaurant visits is the delicious food, ours was when our waitress provided us with a handwritten list of dishes that could be made O/G free!! She shared how she previously had three tables in a row that had the same dietary restriction, so she kept the list handy. It absolutely made all of our nights, and we were able to eat without any worry or concern. We ordered Chaat Papri and a Truffle Paneer (new on the testing menu) for our appetizer and it was delicious! The Portobello Mushroom Curry paired with rice, naan, and roti was perfect! Came here with my partner and a few others. We got two starters and three mains and a few orders of plain and garlic naan. Fish Pakora was delicious! The fish was juicy and tender, the outer batter crisp, and the sauce complemented it really well! No complaints, it was so good and seasoned perfectly. We got the Sharaabi Murgh Achari on recommendation from the waitress and it did not disappoint. "Dark Indian rum, achari/pickle marinated chicken roasted in a clay oven." They set it on fire which was fun! The flavours were amazing.. The chicken was perfectly cooked for my soft mouth and the dipping sauce it came with was also divine--I could drink it. The vegetables underneath covered in the marinate were also delicious. My favourite dish of the night for sure! The Butter Chicken was really delicious but nothing out of the ordinary. It's exactly what I would expect from a respectable Indian restaurant. The Lamb Korma we got was okay! Not my favourite type of curry but the flavours were good and the lamb wasn't too hard. We also got Lamb Biryani which I didn't like too much. It might be the nature of the dish, but in my opinion it's too dry. Flavour here felt like it was lacking as well. Plain naan was good. Garlic naan was phenomenal.. the best garlic naan I've ever had to be honest. At most places I can't even taste the garlic but it's slathered here. So good. The service was impeccable.. Two stars here are for the only star of the night that was the tandoori soya chaaps. The flavour was bang on. It tasted like it had just come out of the tandoori. --for the other dishes I forgot to take pics-- Chaat papdi - below average. The balance of yogurt, tamarind chutney and mint was missing. Also who puts cucumbers in a Chaat papdi?! Shahi paneer - this dish looked like a paneer Tikka masala instead. I should have paid attention to the other reviews, it's a pretty bad dish. The extra cream that they add in this dish cuts any flavour that's supposed to come out. It was also very salty. Tawa sabzi - similar to the one above this was overly salty. The vegetables were cooked but the excess sauce made the dish inedible. Naans and tandoori roti were a joke. If you're a vegetarian, look for other options. Service was OUTSTANDING, she was super attentive and gracious even sharing suggestions for things to do around town as we were obviously tourists. We have less than a handful of Indian restaurants at home in Hawaii but we like the food so we were very excited when the border patrol officer let us know that Indian food is prominent in the Surrey/Delta area. Tasty Indian Bistro is my favourite North Indian restaurant in Metro Vancouver. Food: Very rich and tasty. Chicken Tikka is my staple for every visit, chicken is so soft and full of flavour. Paneer Tacos is another favourite appetiser, the crispy paneer and dipping sauce make it unique. Their sev puri is also yummy. In the main course, dal makhani and malai kofta are great too. Haryali Chicken and Afghani Chicken are good but not as great as Chicken Tikka. I normally end the meal with a dessert. Gulab jamun with ice cream can never go wrong. Their Ferrero Rocher Jar can be shared between two, I found the cake layers to be a bit dry. Quantities for all dishes are good for 2. Ambience and service - Similar to an Indian fine dining experience with a bar. Punjabi music is always on. The restaurant is usually very busy in the evenings with wait times as long as 30-40 mins. One of the best Indian restaurants I have ever visited in North America. This spot also turned out to be a much better value than our first choice of going to a spot near downtown Vancouver. Either the mushrooms are one heavy ass appetizer or I was led astray, because these were not what I would call a light app for one person. Oh well, they were tasty enough. The real highlight was the Butter Chicken I ordered for my main (yes, basic, I know). I ordered it medium spicy and it was right on the money. The sauce was superb, and the chicken was large tender chunks that were cooked to perfection. The garlic naan was some of the best I've ever had, and the rice was perfect. YUM! Prices are on the high side, particularly for the apps...$20 felt fair enough for the butter chicken, but $18 for the corn chops felt like a gouge.
